Chapter 67: The Thunder beast

After a torturous training, Eru was finally allowed a small break to have lunch, which was a simple piece of bread and meat. Prince Eru ate it with relish. No meal had tasted so scrumptious to him till now. 'I guess anything tastes good when you are hungry is true,' he thought nodding his head. With a cup of water, he washed down the bread and started dozing off.

Suddenly flying branch hit him smack on the back of his head. "Stop slacking off. Go train yourself until you are flexible," Lumian shouted from inside the house.

"But master, I'm tired. My legs have already turned jelly," He pitifully cried.

But his master gave him an impassive look and closed the window.

"Guess that's a no," he mumbled fitfully and crawled up. Legs had already turned into limp noodles and his arms were aching like a mountain was on his shoulders. He threw a small glare at the now closed window and grumbled, "Darn, if I don't get flexible soon I might have to suffer like this every day,"

He walked over to the spot and started his warm-ups again. 'What am I doing wrong? Why can't be flexible?' he thought with his eyes closed. Suddenly a small amount of white energy emerged from his body, forming a cloud like structure around him. He was able to concentrate on each of his movements much better. His precision increased tenfold. Like this, he kept up his training for a long time.

Before he could realise it, darkness had descended. Every living thing scurried over to their homes in fear of what is to come. Eru was so engrossed in his training that he did not even notice this.

Dark fog descended from above to the forest, as if like a beast it spread chaos everywhere it went. Beasts cried and whimpered as the fog passed by. Slowly but surely it was moving towards the house.

Eru slowly exhaled and opened his eyes. "Wow, that was the best training ever. I feel so refreshed," he jumped around. His muscle ache had mysteriously disappeared as well as his tiredness. Weirdly, so he felt very brisk and energetic.

"Snap," Something snapped in the distance.

Startled, Eru gazed into the darkness. He could not see anything, but then suddenly a pair of red eyes appeared out of it. A cold shiver passed through his body. He could not move, it was as if his entire body was frozen over. Soon his eyes turned blank without any form out shimmer in them.

Right then, Lumian glanced out from the window and shouted, "Eru, come inside," But the kid acted like he was deaf and continued standing still.

Sighing, he walked out. "Eru, your training time is over get inside,"

Eru remained frozen with his eyes wide open.

Fear gripped his heart. "What they hell," he shouted. Lumian knew something was wrong. He held his shoulders and shook him, yet still Eru remained frozen.

"What they hell," he shouted. He lifted him over his shoulders and brought him inside. He tossed him over to an empty couch next to Deric and whispered, "take care of him, I need to do something,"

Taking his axe from near the door, he walked out. He knew what had caused Eru to become like this. He knew that I he did not defeat it, it would definitely come for Eru again. "Come out!" he shouted.

From inside the fog, red eyes glared at him and a low growl emerged from its throat.

It was a beast he had never seen but..... there were so many legends written about it. The great thunder wolf that brought about the fog and rain to this dark forest.

Lumian gritted his teeth and held his axe up. "This is not your territory. Go back beyond the black slab," he warned. As much as he could he wanted to avoid confrontation with it, because he knew that he would be outnumbered and overpowered by this mysterious beast.

The pair of red eyes gazed at him and then faced towards the house.

"Get lost I say!!" Lumian shouted and axed the tree in front of him.

The beast growled loudly and walked away. With it went the dark fog that had entered the campus.

Lumian sighed and wiped his sweat. All his years here he had never met this beast, but all of a sudden when he was with Eru this beast started appearing. First, when they were flying on his griffin, it was spooked by this beast's growl. And now...'it wants something from Eru,' he thought, clenching onto his weapon tight.

He swiftly ran back inside and checked up on the little prince. He was breathing softly and was peacefully sleeping. "Lay him in his quarters," he said to Deric and rushed to his study. Because he needed backup. He would not be able to deal with this beast alone and protect the prince as well. He swiftly wrote a letter and summoned his griffin.

It plucked it from his hands and flew into the sky.

With a heavy heart, Lumian gazed into the dark forest. "I hope it won't appear again. I hope so," he mumbled and extinguished his lamp.

On the other side, Deric carefully placed the little prince on the bed and tucked him in.

Eru slept so peacefully that his soft blond curls fell all over his face.

Deric swept them back and caressed his chubby cheeks. "When are you going to give me your heart?" he whispered.

But suddenly he glared at the dark spot next to the doorway. "Let's talk outside," he growled.

The dark figure followed him out and put a dagger to his neck. "Where is the imperial seal?" a soft woman's voice threatened him.

"I thought the Aaorlins were all dead. How are you still alive? Did you defect from your duty? Do you know that defectors would be beheaded?" Deric said calmly.

"Shut up and tell me where the imperial seal is!!"
