After hauling the body out of the house, Kaden checked it for any belongings. Nothing was found except a small note that was in her shoe. There was only a single line written. { "need the seal, or else" }
"Darn it, she was still in contact with someone. I have to let Deric know." He did a quick job of burning her body and rushed in.
"Deric, Deric," he shouted as he dashed in.
Deric was silently sitting next to a sleeping Eru. "Shh, let's talk outside,"
'Didn't the prince wake up? How is he asleep so soon?' Kaden thought as he glanced around. Nearby the bedside table he saw an incense burner wafting pleasant sandal wood scent. "You didn't have to use your precious medications on him. A simple whack to his neck would have put him to sleep," he grumbled.
Deric looked at him with a frown. He dragged him out to another empty room and peered at him. "what is wrong with you? You are never this talkative,"
"Its cuz I'm pissed. That's why. These darn Miriafa people are all hypocrites, that prince included,"
"Kaden!" Deric growled in a warning tone.
"Hurts to listen to the truth? Because that's what this is, Deric. You know what; I talked to your so-called master. He already knew about the Aaorlin, yet he still housed her here. What for? And now, he let this happen so he could put the blame of the prince's death on you. This guy is not a good person," Kaden's eye went red from rage. He had had enough of all these people. In Five years he had tolerated these royals, yet they play such cheap tricks behind their backs.
Deric patted him. His friend's chest was rising and falling in rage as he strutted around. "Kaden , don't believe everything you see, or hear. When did you become like that stupid Fang?"
Kaden threw him a glare. "Don't talk about him like that," he then plopped on an empty seat. "how do you explain that swine of masters actions, huh?"
Deric handed him a cup of cool green tea. "He was testing us,"
The warrior paused mid sip. "what!"
"He was testing our loyalty to Eru." Deric calmly said pouring himself a cup. He sat opposite his friend and stirred the teas leaved floating on top. "Lumian, he was the youngest general to take part in the war that happened many years ago, and do you know how Miriafa won it?"
Kaden shook his head.
"It's all because of Lumian's craft schemes. The king, Rukle was always kind hearted he never wanted to hurt anyone. But his sworn brother was another matter. He would hurt anyone who offended eth royal family,"
"But Prince Eru was really in danger today, if he is so loyal he would have run over when that Aaorlin attacked Eru. How?.."
"He was," Deric said finally taking a look at him. "I can't believe you failed to notice this, but he was always next to us, watching our every single move,"
Kaden was mortified. He too was a specially trained warrior, and a spy trained to infiltrate any kind of enemy base. He was proud of his talents to stay vigilant at all times. But to know that an old man had ruptured his defenses made him panic a little. His hands went cold from fear. "Shit, how—how was be able to accomplish that?" he cussed loudly.
"Watch you cussing, don't be stirred by him." Deric whispered with a wooden look. His friend always had the habit of changing his dialect when he was unsettled. Even though he had trained so well in speech and etiquettes, some small qualities and traits he developed in the slums were still etched in his bones.
Kaden shook his leg and bit into the rim of his cup.
"Calm down...."
"How can you tell me to calm down? He knows about me. He knows about US. I'm sure he will tell the king and you will be beheaded for planting a spy," Kaden shouted.
Deric glanced at him and chuckled. "The king already knows,"
"WHAT!!! HE KNOWS?" Kaden shot up, spilling the tea all over his lap. He jumped over to him and held his shoulders. "Let's go, somewhere far from here. Let's not get involved any longer,"
"Kaden , would I be this calm if we were in danger." Deric whispered, peering into his panicky eyes. He softly patted his shoulders and whispered, "I will never risk your lives, so don't...."
"But you will risk yours.....you... you will always put your life in the line in all of your stupid plots," Kaden added with tears polling in his eyes.
Deric comforted him and got up. "This time I won't. I—I have something...someone I cherish. I want to live for him....live with him, if it's not possible..... I want to die with him." he whispered gazing out the gloomy night sky.
