Chapter 31: Chapter Thirty-One: Aiden

The steel rod pipes tumbled down on me, my back taking the brunt of the hit. I fell down with a grunt, and the weight of the metal pressed down on me, keeping me on the floor.

I could see some of the construction workers scampering towards me. They immediately began to pull the rods off me.

"Aiden! Aiden!" I heard a familiar feminine voice scream.

It wasn't until she crouched it down beside me before I realised it was Olivia. She grabbed my face. "Are you okay?" She asked in a low voice.

Before I could respond, a sharp pain shot through my upper back, making me groan. "Argh! Don't think so," I said sounding choked.

"There's blood! Oh my god there's blood!" She said, sounding extremely worried for my safety. "We need to get you to hospital. Somebody help me get him up."

A man rushed beside me and slung my arm over his shoulder. Olivia tried to place my left arm over her shoulder to support me on the other side but immediately she touched my left arm, I winced in pain.

"I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were hurt."

"It's okay." I squeezed my face and made limped forward. She directed the man towards her car and I got into the backseat.

"Might stain your seat with blood," I said, adjusting to sit down.

"It's fine, let's just get you to the hospital."

She got into the driver's seat and then started the engines. I could see the worry in her eyes as she drove past other cars on the road.

I was staring at her from the back. It's been a while since I saw her like this, caring about my well being. A smile almost formed at the corner of my lips.

Her neck was craned forward with her hands tightly wrapped around the steering wheel. Her attentive eyes on the road.

When we got to the hospital, she got down from the car and opened the door to the backseat. She offered to help support my weight, but I was setting that I could walk on my own. "No don't worry, I can walk," I said, getting on my feet.

"You can walk are you sure?" There was doubt all over her expression.

I nodded and limped towards the entrance. "Nurse, nurse, he had an accident. Um… some heavy steel pipes fell on him and there's blood his arm hurts he can't walk properly…" she went into a frenzy.

"Ma'am, calm down, well attend to him," one of the nurses said and then she turned me. She get started with her arm for me to come into the emergency section.

Olivia was still pacing around in the reception when the nurse drew the green curtains closed. She pulled out a drawer and began to prepare the material she would use to dress my wound. "Your wife is quite worried about you," she stated in passing.

My smile faded, turning upside down. "She's not my wife," I clarified.

"Oh, I thought you was, my apologies. I'll need you to take off your shirt please."

I pulled over my top. She began dressing my wound and I had to clench my teeth in pain. She applied a bandage on the wound.

After that I was taken to the x-ray room been giving some injections which were painkillers since I kept complaining about how my shoulder was killing me.

I was moved to a ward and it didn't take too long before the nurse and doctor walked in. "So judging from the x-rays, there isn't much, luckily, but you have a dislocation on your left arm. We'll have to rectify that and then put you on a shoulder sling."

It was a bit painful having a cast put on me before they hung the shoulders sling over my neck. The doctors left after that.

Roughly about 5 minutes later, the door clicked open and Olivia walked in. She sat down beside me on the bed and then caressed my shoulder sling.

"Are you ok? How are you feeling?"

I raised my head to look at her and our eyes met. "So far so good. I think I'm fine. Just a little dislocation, the doctor says it'll take some time to heal but I'll be fine."

She let out a breath of relief. "I thought something bad happened to you. Back then when I saw those words falling on you, I thought it would cause serious irreversible damage."

"Olivia, it's okay, I'm fine." I grabbed her fingers gently, brushing them with the pad of my thumb.

She looked down at our interlocked fingers and then back to me. We held our gaze for a while before the opening of the door startled up, causing her to jerk away from me.

Ava walked into the room, her eyes scanning the both of us. I could see the suspicion in her gaze as she slowed her steps.

"I'm glad you're alright now, I'll take my leave." Olivia's voice was suddenly void of the warmness it had a couple of seconds ago, now it sounded clipped and professional.

She made eye contact with Ava. The atmosphere was tense as the two sisters face each other. Olivia adjusted her hair and then walked past Ava without saying a word to her.

The door shut behind her. "What was she doing here?" Ava asked as she sat on the spot Olivia had just left.

"She's the one that brought me to the hospital after what happened in the site."

She hugged me and he caused me to grown in pain. "Ouch ouch out, I have a dislocation."

A shop gasp escaped from her throat. "I'm so sorry I didn't know," she said softly.

"Ugh, it's fine," I replied as she gently pulled away from me.

"You should be more careful out there, it's really dangerous."

I nodded. We fell into an awkward silence and I knew that there was still something she wanted to say. It was probably about Olivia.

"So Olivia was here, and she seemed to be very concerned for you. Are you two in talking terms now?"

My shoulders loosened. "I don't know, I was just in danger and perhaps that made hard to be a bit more concerned. I'm not sure."

Ava sighed and they moved towards the window where she stepped out into nothing. "Well, it's obvious she still hates me."

I forced myself into his dance and placed my right hand on her shoulder, giving her a soft squeeze. "Hey, don't be like that. So come around."

"Do you think she's even going to attend my gala?" She asked without turning to face me.

"Maybe, maybe she will. Bottom line is you should just give her time."

We spent a few more minutes together before the doctor came in and cleared me, saying that I could leave. I instructed Tiffany to handle all the bills at the reception and left.

Ava drove while I sat in the passengers seat. The ride home was silent and I couldn't help but think about Tiffany's call last night.

"Please come online and check your mail, it's an emergency."

Worry washed over me as I opened my laptop with Tiffany still on the line. I immediately opened my email and then checked what was sent.

Some investors had pulled out of the business suddenly leaving us in a bad position. What's more was that some board members were selling their shares and pulling out because they no longer felt secured.

The company was looking in bad shape. "Sir I know things like this are up to you but if we keep going at this rate the company might collapse."

Those words she said kept ringing in my head. The company might collapse, and it was true. It was Ava's touch that brought me back to reality.

"Hey, you seem spaced out is everything okay?"

I cleared my throat and looked at her. "Yeah it's fine, I was just thinking of the company. We're in a bad spot right now, we're not making so much profit and investors are starting to pull out."

"Look, everything is going to be fine. I'm sure you'll think of something. You always do."

I couldn't even begin to imagine how disappointed my father would be. All his years of running the company he had never run into a problem this big.

We pulled up in front of the house and other and I got down. I noticed there was another car parked in front of the house but it wasn't the car I was familiar with.

Claire opened the door for us and we made our way inside. "Claire, whose car is that outside?"

"It's Mr Michael Tan sir."

The mention of his name alone made my heart skip a beat and I tensed up. I took a few steps forward and found him in the sitting room sitting on the sofa.

He rose up when he sensed out presence then looked at me and Ava. "We need to talk, Aiden."
