Chapter 15: Chapter 14

Since everything happened suddenly, and even Kara and the others were involved, the school gave them a three-day break so they could adjust their status.

In fact, Jennifer really needed to adjust her mindset, as she knew Kara had killed the man. However, she didn't tell anyone, not even Dani, who had no idea about her little secret.

It wasn't that she didn't trust Dani, but Jennifer was very kind and cared about Dani and Kara's relationship. In fact, when she left the police station, even she didn't know how to face Kara.

Kara was immediately taken away by her family, and on the way back, the Kent family remained silent.

Martha sat in the backseat with Kara, holding her hand the entire time as a gesture of comfort.

Kara found it amusing and patted the back of her adoptive mother's hand, reassuring her: "Mom, I'm fine."

"Hmph, you're definitely fine," Jonathan, who was driving, glanced at his adoptive daughter through the rearview mirror and said solemnly, "Kara, tell me the truth, you must be the one responsible, right?"

Martha's hands trembled. In fact, she had also guessed it, but as a loving mother, she didn't want to believe it. She still hoped her daughter was a good and kind girl.

But both she and Jonathan knew: "That was your heat vision. When you showed us your ability, you should've known that if you used your powers for bad things, you wouldn't be able to hide it from us."

Almost everyone knew about Kara's abilities: her super strength, super speed, flight, heat vision, x-ray vision, microscopic vision, even super hearing, super breath, and the fact that she could hold her breath for hours without needing air.

She definitely had abilities they didn't know about, like the super Hypnotic Skill that had awakened the night before, also called Mind Control or psychological suggestion.

Faced with the accusations from her adoptive father, Kara stopped looking out the window. The cool breeze that entered through the open window tousled her beautiful blonde hair.

She was born with blonde hair and blue eyes, and her hair alone was enough to make many girls jealous. Since many girls in school had blonde hair, people would dye theirs to imitate her the next day.

But Kara was naturally blonde, which was relatively rare, and she had a pair of stunning blue eyes.

"Kara," Martha said worriedly, "it wasn't you, right? Tell me you're not a murderer."

Kara sighed: "I'm sorry, it was me."

The car came to a sudden stop on the small road leading home, and Jonathan sat there, stiff, his eyes somewhat vacant.

He had suspected it, but he didn't want to believe it. Kara had admitted it directly.

"Let's go back," Jonathan said, turning the car around and heading back toward the police station.

Kara shrugged, leaned back in her seat, and said nothing.

Martha, anxious, exclaimed: "Jonathan? What are you going to do? Are you going to send my daughter to jail? You can't do that!"

"But she killed someone, Martha," Jonathan raised his voice, reminding her. Kara hadn't made a small mistake—she had taken a life.

Martha didn't know what to do, so she turned her head and asked Kara: "Kara, tell me, that person threatened you first, right?"

"Didn't you see the report?" Kara sighed in frustration. "There was a gun and a broken bullet at the scene, and I was shot in the eye. Oh, bang! The bullet shattered my eyeball. If it hadn't been me, if it had been you or dad, you would be dead."

Kara was telling the truth, but the detailed report was vague. It only mentioned a broken gun with the fingerprints of the drunken man who was killed, but the broken bullet wasn't detailed.

Hearing Kara's words, Martha quickly held her daughter's face, carefully checking her eyes.

Kara was definitely fine. Even if the bullet had hit her open eyeball, it wouldn't have done any damage.

Jonathan softly snorted: "Are you threatening me?"

He said it as if it were a joke, but he still turned off the car and looked back at Kara. Seeing that she was unharmed and Martha was worried, he didn't ask any more questions.

Kara definitely wasn't threatening them, but she said seriously: "That guy threatened revenge, and if he couldn't hurt me, he would've gone after you and Clark in the future."

"If it were just me, I wouldn't care, because after all, no one can really threaten me. But if someone threatens you, they're asking for death."

Kara was right. At that moment, she felt it—had her premonition power awakened? In any case, she had a sinister feeling that if she hadn't killed that person, they would have harmed her family.

Clark might already have the power to protect himself, but her adoptive parents were regular people.

Since the man could easily get a gun, Kara couldn't forgive herself if he had broken into their home and endangered her parents' lives.

She caused the disaster, and she had the chance to stop it. Kara would never allow tragedy to strike because she hadn't acted.

Jonathan's expression softened after hearing this. It turned out that their daughter was protecting her parents.

"But you can't just kill people at will," Jonathan warned Kara. "That's an unforgivable sin. I don't want blood on your hands in the future. It's not worth it. Wasn't your childhood dream to be a superhero?"

He remembered that when Kara was young, she would take her little brother Clark to the yard.

She wore a battlesuit with a cape from her spaceship, and she would trick Clark into getting a red blanket to drape over her shoulders.

The two siblings would play in the yard, happily.

Jonathan couldn't help but show a gentle expression.

It was precisely because his daughter had such high goals and ideals that it pained him even more. He didn't want her hands stained with the blood of these people.

However, Kara disagreed: "Dad, let's not talk about world wars. It's not about who's right or wrong. But do you really think it's not worth acting because they're not important? It's not that. It's because my goal is to be a superhero, so I can't turn a blind eye."

"If I let him go today, maybe tomorrow more people will be attacked and killed. But what's the point of locking him up? It just lets crime grow."

It's like a prison that harbors crime. They lock up the worst criminals, let them escape, lock them up again, and they escape again.

Who really cares about the victims?

Kara's voice grew more passionate, and a sneer formed on her face: "If it's just a group of people looking for fame, don't mention it to me. How many people have been killed by a certain Joker? How many have been twisted? How many lives have been ruined?"

"It turns out the bad guys don't have to take responsibility for killing people. They don't have to pay for it. They even get special treatment and attention."

"So-called superheroes don't protect the victims, much less prevent tragedies. Are they protecting the criminals?"

Kara slowly shook her head: "That's not the superhero I want to be. It's right and just to kill those who deserve it. I won't become the devil's umbrella. Dad, you say their blood isn't worth it? Well, I want to end them, no matter what."

At the end, Kara unleashed her powerful and terrifying aura in front of her adoptive parents for the first time.

Jonathan and Martha exchanged worried glances. They knew very well how terrifying Kara and Clark's potential and current power were. If they weren't restrained, it could be said the entire world would face a crisis of destruction.

It wasn't an exaggeration at all. Kara's power could easily destroy a city.

Just when the two were concerned and unsure what to do, Kara changed the subject: "I'm definitely not a murderer. I'm a normal person, not a psychopath, so don't worry about the ones who don't deserve condemnation. They're already dead. Don't worry."

Jonathan let out a sigh of relief: "Remember what you promised me today."

Jonathan didn't take Kara back to the police station but drove them home. The family would discuss it more once they were home.
