Kara finally understood how Doomsday came to be.
Damn it, she always knew the Guardians of the Universe and their creations weren't entirely reliable. Disasters across the universe—especially major ones related to the Green Lantern Corps—almost always had their origins tied to the Guardians.
This time, the calamity was the Parallax entity. Originally the embodiment of yellow fear, it had now parasitized an Asgardian Guardian and transformed into an enormous octopus-like monster.
It was utter madness.
The Kryptonians had been forced to create a weapon as terrifying as Doomsday—a bioweapon crafted from the corpses of their own soldiers, the same Superman-like warriors enhanced by man-made golden sunlight who were then destroyed under their planet's red sun.
Doomsday was horrific. A creature that defied natural laws and ethics, it was devastating even when fighting under red sunlight. It nearly wiped out the entire Seven Lantern Corps.
Seeing this history, Kara couldn't help but smirk.
No wonder the Guardians were wary of her at first. They claimed to oversee a cosmic order, but they had been utterly defeated by Krypton in the past.
The devastation from Doomsday had left the Green Lantern Corps shattered. Forced into retreat, the Guardians secluded themselves on Oa, too afraid to provoke Krypton further.
But victory came at a heavy price. The uncontrollable destruction wrought by Doomsday, when left without enemies, turned inward.
The devastation didn't spare Krypton. Ordinary Kryptonians, already powerless under red sunlight, were no match for the rampaging bioweapons. Even enhanced Kryptonians—those capable of becoming Superman under golden sunlight—couldn't withstand Doomsday's onslaught.
Unlike Superman, Doomsday wasn't bound by the red sunlight or kryptonite. Created through genetic modifications, its power remained formidable, even under Krypton's red sun. In these conditions, Doomsday far surpassed the might of any Superman.
The internal war nearly led to Krypton's extinction.
Strangely enough, it was Darkseid of Apokolips who helped turn the tide.
Apokolips had sought to expand its influence across the universe, including its ancient invasion of Earth—where the three Mother Boxes were left behind. However, Apokolips' expansion efforts clashed with Krypton's Doomsday army. The resulting war was catastrophic.
Kara couldn't help but feel a sliver of gratitude toward Darkseid. Without his intervention, Krypton might not have survived.
For their survival, Kryptonians eventually turned to the Guardians, their former enemies. They sought the aid of the Green Lantern Corps, which had already suffered immense losses. The Guardians reluctantly supplied rings to Kryptonians, justifying their actions as an attempt to mitigate a disaster they had indirectly caused.
The Lantern rings allowed Kryptonians to shield themselves from the harmful effects of red sunlight and kryptonite, enabling them to unleash their full Superman-like potential. It was only through this combined effort that Krypton eradicated the Doomsday army, though at an enormous cost.
Since then, Krypton forbade any research or discussion regarding Doomsday, labeling it a crime punishable by exile to the Phantom Zone.
After the crisis passed, Kryptonians returned the Green Lantern rings to the Guardians. However, one Kryptonian was entrusted with serving as a Lantern in a sector near Apokolips—a story for another time.
This experience profoundly changed Krypton. They abandoned their expansionist ambitions, focusing instead on advancing genetic engineering through the Codex of Life.
Reading these historical accounts, Kara began to piece together the truth behind her family's knowledge of sunlight's effects. Scientists like Jor-El and Zor-El were already aware of the dangers posed by red sunlight and kryptonite. Their understanding of these vulnerabilities was deeply rooted in Krypton's history.
The Al family, one of the oldest Kryptonian houses, had played a pivotal role in those ancient wars. Kara saw images of her ancestors in battle, proudly donning the House of El's iconic "S" symbol. Her heart swelled with pride.
Yet this pride was tinged with sorrow. Krypton's ultimate destruction left Kara feeling a deep pity for her lost people.
Suddenly, bursts of colored light filled the room.
Blue light, representing hope. Indigo light, embodying compassion. Violet light, symbolizing love. Orange light, radiating greed. And yellow light, the manifestation of fear.
Everyone froze, even the Guardians.
Had Kara inadvertently become the center of this universe?
