Kara did not expect that Dani would bring such surprising news.
Aliens?
Kara was taken aback, momentarily worried her own origins might be exposed. Little did Dani realize how close she had come to revealing Kara's true identity.
Imagine if it had gone like this: Dani saying, "Kara, I found aliens," and Kara responding, "I am one." That would have been interesting.
At that moment, Alfred entered the room from outside.
They were all at Wayne Manor. Jennifer had moved in after giving birth to Damian, as she had no family in Gotham. Her parents might not even be aware she had a child.
It was a difficult situation. Jennifer wasn't sure how to explain everything, and there were a lot of unexpected complications.
"Are Master Bruce and Mistress Jennifer in there?" Alfred, having grown quite fond of Jennifer, now regarded her as the lady of the manor.
Kara shrugged. "I think you'd better leave them be. They might be planning to expand the family even more," she teased with a smirk.
Alfred nodded in understanding, then looked down at Damian, who was fast asleep in Kara's arms. The sight brought tears to his eyes.
Although he'd already experienced moments of joy over Damian's birth, he still grew emotional when he looked at the child. Finally, the Wayne family had an heir to carry on their legacy.
Having raised Bruce himself, Alfred felt a deep connection with Damian, almost like a grandfather. Kara, noticing this, smiled and handed the baby to Alfred, allowing him to hold him close.
Then, Kara excused herself and quietly slipped out of the room, leaving Alfred to his joyful moment with Damian. She didn't want to interrupt Bruce and Jennifer, but she wasn't above interrupting them herself.
As she stepped into their room, Kara found Bruce and Jennifer just talking. They were discussing how to break the news about Damian to Jennifer's family.
"Kara, you know they're going to find out eventually," Kara reminded her friend gently. "If you don't tell them you have a child, you're going to hear it later."
Jennifer sighed. She genuinely didn't know what to say. She had only moved to Gotham from Metropolis a year ago, and now she had a child. How would her family react?
On top of that, she and Bruce were unmarried, which was bound to shock her conservative family back home.
Bruce walked over and hugged her apologetically, suggesting, "Maybe we should get married first, then break the news to your parents."
Jennifer immediately pushed him back. "Are you out of your mind? If I dare to show up married without even informing them, they'll probably disown me!"
Jennifer shook her head. Regardless of the circumstances, her family would want to be involved in her marriage. Her father would expect to walk her down the aisle and give her away.
Besides, showing up married with a baby would be too much of a shock for her parents, who lived in a small, traditional town. "If I even tried to follow your plan, I'd be banned from coming home," she said, exasperated.
"Then just be honest," Kara advised. "Tell them it was… an unexpected surprise."
Jennifer bit her lip. "But that makes it sound like Damian wasn't wanted."
A child is usually the cherished product of love, and saying he was an accident didn't feel right to her. But at the same time, it was the truth.
Bruce, sensing her worry, leaned in and said, "Not an accident. It was destiny."
Kara rolled her eyes, playfully disgusted. "Okay, I didn't come here to be a third wheel to all this sweet talk!"
She turned and walked away, feeling like a third wheel as Bruce and Jennifer shared another tender moment. Kara had to admit, Bruce certainly had a talent for winning Jennifer over with romantic words.
A bit later, Kara called Clark. "Clark, get a move on with Lois! Once you two have kids, all will be right with the world."
"Sis! Lois is here!" Clark whispered, sounding flustered before quickly hanging up.
Clark was only twenty, and though he was Superman, he was often at a loss when it came to his sister's teasing.
Now thirty years old, Kara couldn't resist ribbing her younger cousin. The last year had been an intense one for them all, and she felt the milestones as she saw Bruce and Jennifer raising Damian together.
As the night fell, Wayne Manor was alight with a warm glow. Kara personally took over the kitchen, preparing a grand meal for everyone. Although it was a small gathering, it felt special and intimate.
Bruce would have preferred a bigger celebration, wanting all of Gotham's elite to witness Damian's birth, but Jennifer disagreed. She felt it was a private family matter, and there would be time later for introductions.
Damian was still too young, and Jennifer was concerned about exposing him to too many people right away. So even Bruce's close friends, like Harvey and Rachel, weren't invited.
Though Jennifer had actually suggested inviting them, Bruce decided to keep the celebration to just family, seeing it as Damian's first quiet night with those closest to him.
As they ate, laughed, and celebrated, Kara's phone suddenly rang. The ringtone sounded unusually loud and urgent, which made her tense up immediately.
She quickly answered, and Dani's panicked voice came through: "Kara, help me!"
