Chapter 13: Plundering

The consciousness transfer was done, which meant he was now within his new body, which also meant that he was within his transformation cocoon or coffin.

The fire confirmed his theory on what Nous was; it truly was the Sage Force. Known to encase its users within the reviving flames of the Mind when it descends on the person but…

"Why is it so painful?" Maxwell screamed as he pushed against the sides of the cocoon

As soon as he did so, he felt an inexhaustible amount of strength within him as he easily broke it open. Immediately dropping to the floor, he began to roll on the floor.

For the first time, he wasn't thinking about the danger that he may have potentially put himself in by breaking out of the cocoon.

The cocoon was created to completely isolate heat and the like, but he had broken out of it, meaning that any parademon within the area would be able to sense the unnatural head and come to check it out.

Despite his rolling, the flames refused to go out, but weirdly, he expected it. It was common sense, though; the flames didn't come from some normal source.

This was the fire of the Sage force, of course; rolling wouldn't stop it. Knowing this, he immediately began to numb his sense of pain.

This was an ability he could afford because, even in his new body, he was still a techno-organic being. He could no longer be called a parademon, but essentially, they were still the same.

Same features, nearly the same makeup etc. he may be more organic than the more robotic Parademon, but they were still roughly the same thing.

However, the plan didn't work out well, as the pain persisted. It wasn't just physical pain; it was also psionic in nature.

The flames instead got bigger and seemed to burn with greater intensity. His physical body was barely affected, his skin still shone bright green.

It didn't look as though he was on fire at all, but the pain was still there, it was a very weird experience. Knowing that there was nothing to be done about it,

Maxwell chose to power through it, if it was pain then he may as well be used it. Fighting against an omniscient artificial intelligence when your soul existed as code wasn't just fun and games.

It was painful and a suicidal attempt, how he had survived so far was beyond him. Choosing to ignore the pain wasn't an easy task either, but it was better than having parts of your soul deleted every counterattack.

"Thankfully they all seem to have left" Maxwell said out loud after a while.

He didn't know how long the transfer took, but he wasn't seeing any parademons around… no, to be more specific, he couldn't sense any of them.

"That explains a lot" he said when he spotted a gigantic machine that pierced the clouds

It was the final phase of any parademon attack, the plundering… the main plundering, like the taking of every resource was already done. This involved taking the magma within the planet's core to supply/maintain the fire pits in Apokalips.
