Chapter ten:
Eradicator? Said Travis George.
Looking, up Lois Lane was momentarily thrilled to see a dishevelled Travis George standing before her.
Travis... she said softly, frowning. I'm sorry... he he's dead...
She gently laid down Jimmy's body, before wiping her tears away and rising to her feet to approach Travis.
Travis... at least you're... Said Lois Lane.
Before she could finish, Travis raised his hand, and slapped her hard across the face. However, while this barely affected Lois Lane, it shattered his wrist, and he screamed in agony.
Travis! Exclaimed Lois Lane. Let me take a look at...
Don't you touch me! Screamed Travis, wincing as he pulled his arm away from her. You've done enough damage!
Travis, I... Said Lois Lane...
Look! Travis continued, jerking his head. Look at Metropolis! Look at Jimmy! All of this is your fault!
Travis... Said Lois Lane.
Why couldn't you stop him? Answer me that! You were able to stop him before, why couldn't you this time?! Answer me, Eradicator, answer me! Replied Travis George.
What are you talking about? Stop you? Lois Lane asked him.
Me. Replied Darkseid.
Lois Lane looked up as Travis turned around. A large, imposing figure stood before them, with gray rock like skin and crimson red eyes. His armor was metallic blue and covered all but his arms, legs and face.
Darkseid... Said Lois Lane.
Hello again, Lois, said the alien overlord.
Lois Lane's initial shock turned to anger, as she then darted towards Darkseid, ready to strike. However, somehow she was unable to make contact, and when she came to a halt, she turned to find Darkseid a few feet away from her.
You did this! Said Lois Lane.
Oh, come now, Eradicator, said Darkseid. Even I could not cause this much damage in such a short space of time were if not for you.
What do you? Said Lois Lane.
You were entertaining, I suppose, but no real challenge. I almost felt embarrassed for you, heralded as the world's greatest vigilante, and you lasted mere seconds while you faced my might. Replied Darkseid.
What I don't...? Said Lois Lane.
Remember? I'm not surprised, you must have flew halfway across the city with that final blow. I imagine it must have been painful. Replied Darkseid.
Lois Lane looked around at the ruins of Metropolis. It was impossible, she thought, it could not be real, and yet.
Your pathetic facade of heroism has come to an end, said Darkseid. Metropolis is dead, and it is you the people will hold accountable. You, who failed them when they needed you most!
No... No! Said Lois Lane.
Not convinced? Perhaps this will confirm it. Replied Darkseid.
Darkseid's eyes began to glow bright red, and Lois Lane steadied herself for an attack. However, Darkseid then turned his head around, and lasers shot out of his eyes, traveling in a zigzag manner towards Travis.
Aahh...!
Travis blood curling scream lasted only a second as lasers struck him, before his body turned to ashes.
Nooo! Said Lois Lane.
Lois Lane sped over and knelt down beside the small mound, speechless with shock.
Now you see, Lois. Now you see the horror that you have caused. Said Darkseid.
No... Replied Lois Lane.
And now, the world will suffer the same fate as this city, all because of you. Said Darkseid.
Noooo! Replied Lois Lane.
With remarkable speed, Lois Lane rose and flew towards Darkseid. However, just as she made contact, Darkseid vanished, almost in a blink of a eye.
You see? Said Darkseid.
Lois Lane looked up to see Darkseid standing twenty feet away.
Even now, when I have taken everything from you, you still can't kill me. Replied Darkseid.
Wanna bet? Said Lois Lane.
Lois Lane sped towards him, but again, Darkseid vanished as soon as Lois Lane struck him.
How pathetic. Replied Darkseid.
Lois Lane turned her head, and turned in shock as multiple clones of Darkseid now mocked her from several points across the ruins.
You're weak, Eradicator, echoed the voices of all the Darkseid clones in unison. A unworthy specimen, powerless to save the world she swore to protect.
You want power? Roared Lois Lane. I'll show you power!
Lois Lane darted from Darkseid to Darkseid, forcing them to vanish with clenched fists and projectiles of the carcasses of vehicles. However, as she destroyed one clone, another seemed to replace it.
Minutes later, Lois Lane collapsed on the ground, as the Darkseid clones continued to mock and scold her. Lois Lane buried her head in her hands, as the echoing voices rang in her mind.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhh!
