Chapter 1331: Chapter 905: Bad Luck for the Skrulls (Part 1)_1

Ever since the Nick Fury disguised by the Skrulls, and other superheroes officially took the stage, they found that things were not as they had expected.

Originally, the Skrull leader disguised as Nick Fury, wanted to acquire the identity of the S.H.I.E.L.D Director and superheroes, intending to use the resources and connections in their hands. But soon after taking the position of S.H.I.E.L.D Director, reality dealt him a heavy blow.

According to Nick Fury's own memory, he'd made use of various loopholes in S.H.I.E.L.D over the years, deceived a large amount of funding, and built many secret bases. The locations of these secret bases are spread across America, only known to him and a few core agents.

The materials stored in the warehouse are very useful, in addition to the strategically positioned Sky Carrier, there is a large amount of heavy equipment collected from human society. These are things that could not be accessed by ordinary people, which is very important to the Skrulls.

The Skrull Empire, as one of the Three Great Empires of the Universe, can be said to have a complicated destiny.

They were born in the Andromeda Galaxy, and developed a highly advanced civilization within the Andromeda Galaxy. Unfortunately, their home planet was consumed by Galactus, forcing them to relocate.

The Empire was not peaceful internally and often had civil wars. After a great chaos broke out, many Skrulls fled from their country. Those who came to Earth followed an ancient religious allegory, thinking that Earth was their land of revival, thus wanting to control Earth.

Their initial actions were fruitful, many Skrulls mixed amongst S.H.I.E.L.D agents and made contact with the superheroes. In the process, they managed to complete preparations to copy their appearance and abilities.

After several superheroes kept dying, the Skrull leader realised that it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Their ability to duplicate is not without a drawback. Firstly, they must be in contact with the target for a certain period of time. It doesn't have to be physical contact, but they can't be too far from the target for a continuous period; otherwise, the read will fail. Once it fails, they have to start reading again from scratch.

Another point is, the maximum limit of their copying ability will be weakened. If they fought with the original owner, there would be a high probability of failure, especially abilities that lean towards magic and mind control.

Another important point is, the same target can only be copied and imitated by the same Skrull, and it is impossible to have more than a dozen Skrulls copying the same ability.

Moreover, changing appearances and abilities has a cooldown period, which is about 10 years. However, the Skrulls are not an immortal species, their lifespan is about 220 years, only two to three times longer than that of humans.

That is to say, they also need to be cautious about whom they choose to copy. Otherwise, they would have to wait ten years if they wanted to change the target they were imitating, which could be very critical.

A problem emerged - if they wanted to take the stage in the other party's identity, they must make the other party disappear. However, they can't fight the other party because their abilities have already been weakened.

They can't have dozens of people duplicating the same powerful ability and then ganging up, nor can they first duplicate a strong ability and then imitate a useful social identity of a superhero. That would require a long cooling period, which would leave them short-handed.

Moreover, a gang fight would cause a lot of noise. They wanted to infiltrate human society quietly and control the whole upper echelon of society, not fight with the whole human race.

Having lived in human society for such a long time, all Skrulls understand how suspicious and xenophobic this race is.

They would even divide their own people into countless areas, and then squeeze each other out. If they knew that there was a terrifying alien that could completely copy their appearance and abilities, planning to invade Earth, then the Skrulls would never have a moment of peace.

The Skrull leader disguised as Nick Fury originally planned to start with ordinary people who were easier to handle, such as core agents like Coulson and Hill, seize an opportunity to completely kill them, and then slowly infiltrate, finally targeting Nick Fury.

In fact, they never thought about killing superheroes themselves, firstly because it would cause a lot of commotion, and secondly because they couldn't afford the loss.

Humans have so many superheroes, as well as mutants, and the number of Skrulls who came to earth was not large. There were some internal splits afterwards, and now there are less than 20 people in the faction of the Skrull leader disguised as Nick Fury.

If they really had a direct conflict with the superheroes, whether it was Captain America or Spider Man, even if they could possibly kill them, they could at least kill one or two Skrull members. These superheroes don't kill humans, not because they don't kill aliens. They cannot accept such a loss of manpower.

With such a mindset, they constantly waited for the result, not expecting a huge gift to fall from the sky and stun them.

Nick Fury died. The three most popular superheroes in New York also died.

How could such a great opportunity be missed? The counterfeit Nick Fury thus ascended to the throne and was completely trapped in this whirlpool of intrigue.
