On the other side, a swift change erupted in the battlefield where Nal fought. Everyone around realized that unless they took down Nal, none of them would make it alive out of there.
Originally, amidst evenly matched forces, it was a chaotic mass brawl. But the moment an entity stronger than the rest surfaced, the rest would naturally gang up against it. Now, Solus, Frigga, Magneto, and all the Spider-Men have set their sights on Nal who just broke free.
Except for a tiny black dot, standing at the center of the battlefield. It was unmoved by the power that Nal unleashed, simply standing where it was, staring at the endless flames of the star.
The Amazing Spiderman quickly ascended to dodge Solus's covert attack. Through the corner of his eye, he caught a glimpse of the bright star and saw Peter standing in a daze.
They had all seen the fight between Shiller and Nal earlier, but Solus's attack hindered the Spider-Men from aiding Shiller and Peter when Shiller plunged into the fiery sea of the star.
Unsurprisingly, tragedy struck again, right before the eyes of all the Spider-Men.
At this point, the Spider-Men were seriously crippled. Their battle with Solus had cost many lives. Most of the survivors were injured. Witnessing an irreversible tragedy triggered painful memories causing most Spider-Men to falter.
Watching an otherwise avoidable energy burst hit one of the absent-minded Spider-Men, the Amazing Spiderman sighed, "It looks like we have to retreat for now. Fortunately, Solus fighting against this mysterious Evil God would significantly drain their energy. By the time we catch up, it won't be too late to eliminate him. Let's retreat and regroup."
"Are you planning to run away?" Dr. Octavius Parker retorted coldly. Of his four tentacles, two had been severed. A large wound gaped on his body, steadily bleeding. An equally brutal wound on his shoulder exposed the bone. His injuries were much worse than those of the Amazing Spiderman.
"This is a tactical retreat, not a sacrifice. The more we lose, the fewer our gains. I thought you understood this." The Amazing Spiderman wanted to counter but caught sight of Dr. Octavius Parker's wounds. He eventually turned his head away.
He addressed the other Spider-Men, "We are not in a good state right now, let's retreat and regroup at our base temporarily. Our battle with the Successor Family isn't going to end overnight. Prepare for transport."
As he spoke, he started to move away from the group of Spider-Men. Spider Gwen called out to him, "Where are you going?"
"We can't just abandon that kid. He must have been severely shocked. I need to comfort him a bit. You guys go ahead, I'll quickly bring him back."
Once finished, the Amazing Spiderman flew towards Peter, Dr. Octavius Parker, not joining the transportation group, flew in the same direction.
The Amazing Spiderman turned towards him, "Why are you following? I didn't know you were good at comforting others."
"I just don't want you and that silly kid to die here. Our morale is very low already. If we suffer more losses, I doubt anyone would want to continue fighting."
Dr. Octavius Parker snorted and flew quicker towards Peter. As he approached, he noticed Peter mumbling something to himself.
Dr. Octavius Parker called out to him, but Peter didn't react. When the Amazing Spiderman flew over, Dr. Octavius Parker said to him, "You're right, he's been affected too much, probably even lost his senses."
The Amazing Spiderman ignored him, flew up to Peter, patting his shoulder, "I know, you're heartbroken, but, we are up against a formidable enemy, and this place is highly perilous, you'll have to come back with us..."
Peter didn't react at all, he just kept murmuring something. The Amazing Spiderman and Dr. Octavius Parker shared a glance. Then they approached him closely but didn't hear anything.
Only when they moved closer did the Amazing Spiderman and Dr. Octavius Parker discern from Peter's lip movements. Peter kept repeating:
"The secret of magic is that it makes thoughts come true..."
Instantly, a dazzling burst of magical light erupted from Peter, forming a giant vortex, sweeping all three Spider-Men into it, and disappearing in the middle of the battlefield.
When the Amazing Spiderman regained consciousness, he found himself in a familiar room. He got up, rubbing the back of his neck, squinting at his surroundings.
In the small room, a twin bed with striped sheets took up almost half of the space. A desk, cluttered with assorted books, and a console next to the desk with its tangled up controller wires, begged the question whether one could even untangle them.
As if realizing something, the Amazing Spiderman excitedly ran to the desk, cleared up the mess, and saw a picture frame by the window. The frame held a picture of Peter Parker, Ben Parker, and May, all sporting radiant smiles.
This was Peter Parker's room from his school days, before he moved out. He had spent his entire childhood here.
Those days were already distant from the Amazing Spiderman's current life. Having graduated a few years ago, he found work at a research institute in New York and had been living in an apartment not very far away. This small room had become part of his past.
Suddenly, he heard some movement behind him. Turning around, he saw that it was Dr. Octavius Parker.
"How did you get here??" The Amazing Spiderman asked in surprise, "What are you doing in my house?"
Dr. Octavius Parker coughed a couple of times, clutching his chest, struggling up from the floor. His wounds made him gasp with pain. Seeing this, the Amazing Spiderman walked over and helped him stand up, allowing him to lean his back against the wall.
Just then, another voice came from behind them, "What's going on here? ... Ah, was it all just a dream? What a nightmare..."
Peter sat up on his bed, shook his head vigorously, looking quite dazed. Using a hand to support himself, he leaned against the head of the bed. But as he turned his head, he saw the Amazing Spiderman and Dr. Octavius Parker standing beside him.
Peter stood still, his eyes wide open. Then, his face collapsed in disbelief, "No! How can you be here?? Wasn't it all a dream just now?"
The Amazing Spiderman stood up from the floor, walked over to Peter's bedside, looked at him, and said, "A dream? What are you referring to? Are you talking about what just happened in the cosmos? I'm sorry, but it wasn't..."
"Damn kid, are you trying to deceive yourself, pretending your mentor's death was just a dream? But I'm here to tell you it wasn't ... you have no idea what you've done, you brought us here ... you better send us back quickly, Solus is waiting for us to fight him", Dr. Octavius Parker spoke in fits and starts.
"I..." Before Peter could argue with him, he was hit by a strong smell of blood. His sense of smell, just now getting back to normal, was extra sensitive. Peter turned to look at Dr. Octavius Parker; his right side abdomen was all bloodied. His battlesuit, originally black and red, now had turned completely crimson.
"Oh my God, what happened? How did you get hurt so badly? Wait a minute, I... I have bandages..." Peter, slightly perplexed, rose from his bed, ran to the wardrobe, and after opening its door, he began rummaging through.
While The Amazing Spiderman stood beside Dr. Octavius Parker, aiding his wound to stop bleeding, he whispered, "Even if he is a fool, he is still a kind-hearted fool, isn't he?"
Dr. Octavius Parker grunted disdainfully but stayed silent.
However, at this moment, Peter unknowingly shrieked. "What is going on? I am sure I have hidden a medical kit at the bottom of the wardrobe. How could it disappear? I remember reorganizing it just yesterday..."
Standing up, Peter began searching throughout the room but ended up finding nothing. Suddenly, he noticed the calendar hanging beside the wall - the date seemed very unfamiliar.
Peter recollected that when he journeyed to the multiverse, he distinctly glanced at the calendar. It was still the beginning of October, but now on the calendar, it displayed December. Had he been away for over two months?
After thinking, Peter felt it wasn't that lengthy. Meanwhile, Amazing Spiderman had walked up and said, "Did you find the medical kit? If not, we need to think of other solutions; he's barely holding up."
The Amazing Spiderman turned back to Dr. Octavius Parker, who had lifted half of his mask, making his breathing easier. However, judging from his uncovered chin, his face was pale, and lips were losing color.
Since he had taken the lead in attacking directly, the energy from Captain Universe Spider-Man had depleted swiftly. In the end, what little was left only helped him survive in the cosmic environment but provided no defense. Therefore, he was severely wounded by fragments of the star hit by Solus, losing much blood.
The Amazing Spiderman took a piece of clothing from Peter's wardrobe and wrapped it around Dr. Octavius Parker to help stop the bleeding, but this wouldn't last very long.
Seeing this, Peter approached the door, briefly peered outside, then gestured for them to follow, whispering, "come quickly; Uncle Ben and Aunt May are probably still asleep."
The Amazing Spiderman guided Dr. Octavius Parker to walk out while Peter went ahead to check the way. The trio left Peter Parker's house and opened the garage only to find it vacant.
"Damn, Uncle Ben must have left the car in his company." Peter stamped his foot, then exclaimed, "Call the ambulance, quick, or it'll be too late!"
"But we aren't from your universe; what about our IDs?" inquired The Amazing Spiderman.
Peter hesitated for a while, then started patting his pockets. He seemed to remember carrying a phone but after searching repeatedly found it missing. It was likely lost during the previous battle. Suddenly, as if he remembered something, he held out one hand and murmured, "This hand is a distress signal, yes, that's right...".
Closing his eyes, he concentrated hard, and a ray of light shone from his hand.
Simultaneously, in Stark Building's lab, Stark noticed the alarm light going off. Without thinking too much, he picked up the Magic Energy Core, inserted it into the reactor, instantly rose above the cosmos, and then... found nothing.
"Where's Peter?" Iron Demon Stark, somewhat confused, mused, "Didn't he just send a distress signal? Where's he?"
"Where's that distress signal coming from?... Let's see, the timeline? How is he on the future timeline??"
And the second after Peter pressed the distress signal, he heard Stark's voice in his ear, "Peter, how did you time-travel???"
