Chapter 9: Finding trouble

Blake Rivera was already up before the six o'clock alarm he had set the day before went off. He looked around and his bed was empty just the way he wanted it. By now, Nelly or Elise or whatever was the name of the girl he picked up at the runway show last night was half way across the world on one of his severance luxurious trip he has his P.A send his one night stand to, so they don't demand relationship from him. After all, he was engaged to a debutante name Maya Willows of the willows oil magnate.

Blake tried not to think of the fact that in two weeks he would be married to a girl he has known all his life yet he didn't know or feel anything for her at all.

He knew he had a business deal to take care of in Brooklyn and that business was a face to face meeting with Maya Willow over their impending nuptial.

He wondered why she couldn't take her bleeding heart charity project elsewhere instead of a place he might be shot to death for coughing. Maya had suggested he took the train but Blake wasn't too keen about the idea but the more he thought about it now the more palatable it's becoming because taking his rolls Royce to Brooklyn was just a recipe for trouble. And all this was because an annoying girl placed him in a spot.

He went to his in house gym for his thirty minutes routine work out. Everything about his day was planned and he liked keeping to schedule. By 6:50 A.m, he had already taken his bath and entered his dressing room. Everything in his walk-in closet was arranged, from his ties to his clothes even his shoes were arranged according to color, their worth and the day of the month he was supposed to wear them.

Soon, he was out of the door.

"Don!"

"Yes, Master Blake"

"Get the Rolls Royce I have a breakfast meeting with two of my investors but I will need you to take me to the subway station. I am going to Brooklyn"

"Yes, Master Blake"

(She is in Brownsville. Her name is Sarah and I'm sending her address to your phone right away)

Demi replayed what Zoe Steeps told her over the phone over and over again in her head inside the train station where she was sitting waiting for the train to arrive

She had fed Noah his bottle and he was asleep graciously. She was tired and aching all over from a sleepless night. She must have sat there a minute or two before she dozed off unknowingly leaving Noah unattended. When she woke up, for some reason her head was on a hard surface, it took Demi a second to notice it was someone's shoulder. A man's shoulder, her first instinct was to check whether Noah was okay and he was, he was still asleep snoring softly in the noisy environment.

She looked up immediately to see whose shoulder she had been resting on earlier on and then she heard his voice.

"You are really heavy" his husky voice almost made her heart skip a beat, whether it was fear or excitement, she couldn't tell but the voice sounded somewhat familiar.

"Excuse me?" Her brain took a second to assimilate that he just called her heavy.

"I said my shoulder hurt from your head resting on it for close to one hour. Next time, bring your own pillow" his voice was low but firm like it was radiating authority even without trying.

"You really like me to say sorry, don't you?" she asked him

For the first time she raised her face to meet his and for the first time in a while, her heart skipped a beat.

The man stretched his hands out like Demi's head was a bag of heavy grains and she doesn't even weigh much.

He was handsome in the conventional sense with profound beautiful hazel eyes that contrasted exceptionally with his light toned face. But that wasn't what got her hooked, what got her hooked was his ability to blend in but somehow still stand out in his environment.

His hazel eyes were deep and expressive; she could stare at them all day and never get tired. She knew him from somewhere but where?

He smiled lazily and blinked to refocus his gaze, taking way the faraway look in his eyes. He was the furthest thing from modest or humble.

"You really like me to say sorry, don't you?" Demi asked him again, this time slowly as she was starting to put things together.

"That would be a welcomed change, a woman actually apologizing for doing something wrong" he closed his eyes briefly leaning on the chair.

"I was going to apologize to you but now, I have changed my mind" Demi said stubbornly and forced her eyes to stop looking at him.

He grunted softly but didn't utter another word. He was well built with a muscular lean body that could melt hearts and raise the dead, given the crew neck t-shirt that he wore, hiding his magnificent body wasn't on his mind. He was the furthest thing from modest or humble.

Then it clicked. "You are the asshole that fired me yesterday!"
