Chapter 2: Chapter 2

It didn't take long for the carriage to arrive at its destination. We dropped at the entrance and after a quick identity check from the guards, we were allowed inside.

"Well then this is where we go on our way."

Looking at the rising sun of the morning, Professor Moratel spoke with an emotional voice.

"Thanks again for the tale, I can't really believe all of that, but I bet there's some truth in it."

Moratel smirked at my words but just shook his shoulders. "Well, history is not always something you can accurately describe anyway. The further away it is from us, the higher the chance that the information we have is from a biased point of view that might not even have come from personal experience but just retransmitted word of mouth. Anyway, now that we are here, what are your plans exactly?"

"I... uh..." Hearing his words, I finally realized I hadn't give much thought to my current situation.

Where I would I sleep without money? How do I get food once the few fruits in my backpack had been consumed?

Moreover, how does one even gets money in this place?

As someone who was tired from office job, I couldn't see myself working in boring jobs that couldn't make any use of my talent.

I was someone special now, someone whose potential could only be realized through fighting...

"I was thinking... about becoming an adventurer." Yes, that's right. The previous owner of this body had been trained a lot on the art of Monster Hunting by his parents.

I knew how to bait monsters, how to study their behaviors and attack patterns, how to identify their traces and track their movements. With this knowledge and the experience of fighting things like Goblins, Kobolds and some other smaller monsters like Stone-armored Cats, it shouldn't be a problem to make some money by fighting inside the dungeon.

Moratel nodded at my words and after thinking for a moment he spoke cautiously as if afraid of someone hearing.

"Here's a piece of advice for you then. No matter what, never, ever, cross paths with Freya. Others might not now, but I saw with my own eyes how one of her ploys killed one of the most powerful adventurers that had ever lived. She might call herself goddess of love, bitches or whatever, but she is more like the goddess of treachery and villainy."

Stunned for a moment, I didn't know how to react.

"It's just a small advice kid, you might not even have to worry about it in your life time, but if you end up being someone special, it might just save you some trouble."

Hearing this, I nodded in understanding. "In that case, thank you, old man. Your help is appreciated!"

"Bwuahaha! No worries, no worries! If you feel like it, come look for me in the Drunken Dreams Tavern. I usually stay there as the owner is an old friend and lets me rent one of his rooms in discount. We can drink something together and I can tell you some other interesting tales!"

I smiled at his words and after bidding my farewell, turned around and left towards the tower of Babel.

Standing on one of the city's main roads, I was astonished by the sight of the multiracial crowd. One look was enough to spot many Pallums, Elves, Dwarves, Demi-humans, and Amazoness.

Even a god or two could be easily seen among the crowd that went and came with the flow.

"Such a large number of people... It can't even be compared to the large city this body of mine visited before in the Far East."

Although surprised at the beginning, I quickly got used to the atmosphere and stopped wasting time on the street.

Even so, my eyes couldn't help but drift towards the beautiful woman I saw on the way. No matter if you liked fair or dark skinned, there were would always be an elf, human or Amazoness that suited your taste, they were all beautiful and came in all sizes and shapes, and their alluring eyes and charming clothes made it even harder to think about anything but 'that.'

I was even sure some of them were winking at me, but... it might just be my imagination.

Sighing, I quickly forgot about this matter as a large shadow finally towered over me.

Standing tall like a giant reaching for the clouds, the tower at the center of the city is what attracted people from all over the world to this place. To be more precise, it is the dungeon beneath the tower and the many gods that live around it.

Although I haven't seen the Falna by myself yet, I do know that the power those people gain seems to be related to the blessing of the gods.

I wonder if someone like me can receive it as well...

Walking up a small set of stairs, I stepped into the tower and looked around in wonder. Many beautiful women in social attire could be seen talking with the warriors on the counters and some in their own offices.

Swords, Spears, Halberds, and Axes, were just a few of the weapons carried by those people, even some unconventional weapons like the Rapier and Great swords that were almost 2 meters long could be seen.

Such a powerful force of adventurers... if they were ever to unite under one banner, they would definitely become an unstoppable army.

A wicked and somewhat evil idea started forming in my head, but before I could properly organize it, someone patted me on the back. I turned to look and was greeted by the sight of a beautiful female human in guild attire, she had a head full of chestnut-colored hair, mesmerizing hazel eyes, and a charming figure.

Being face to face with such a peerless beauty made me a little bit flustered for a moment. I wasn't used to talking with such beautiful women that could only be seen in the cover of reputable magazines in my previous life.

Nonetheless, it was just a small moment of shyness that was quickly forgotten when I remembered my priorities. Surprised as I was though, I couldn't help but think of the guild's strategy. 'Ahh, the guild sure knows how to attract clients...' As I sighed in helplessness at their cleverness, the young woman started speaking.

"Hello sir, I couldn't help but notice you. Are you perhaps new to the city? Did you come to register as an adventure?"

Her words brought me out of my delusions and made me remember the reason why I came to this place.

"Eh... ah, right! Sorry, I was a bit overwhelmed by the scene and my mind went blank for a second."

"That's okay!" She smiled sweetly. "Many people feel the same when they first come to the city, it's difficult to not to considering we are the only place where you can find all races peacefully coexisting."

I couldn't help but doubt her words, even if there was no conflict on the surface, no city could exist and be one hundred percent free of some form of violence.

"I see. Well, although you have already guessed, let me introduce myself. My name is Kayn, I'm a wanderer who recently arrived at Orario and I came to become an Adventurer."

"Welcome to Orario, Kayn! My name is Zelena, and I'm one of the guild's employees. Also, you can come with me then, I just need you to fill out some forms and answer some questions before we can officially register you as an adventurer."

Nodding, I accompanied her to what seemed to be a waiting area with many benches and stools and I sat down on one of them while she went away to fetch the things she needed.

After a while, she was back carrying a stack of papers and a pencil.

"First of all, can you read? Many of the people who choose to become adventurers are illiterate so don't feel ashamed if you are, I can write everything down for you if need be."

Although a little ashamed at that I nodded my head. The previous owner of this body was too poor and never went to school. Since his parents also didn't know how to read, the only thing he learned from them was how to fight and hunt monsters.

"Alright, then let's start with your name..."

After half an hour of answering questions, Zelena stamped the papers with the guild's seal and put everything in order.

"Congratulations, Kayn, you are officially a member of the guild and an Adventurer!"

"Thank you!"

"Now, you said that you don't have the Falna, so that means you haven't joined a God's Familia yet, we can recommend some to you if you wish."

"That would be the best." I answered while thinking how much of a hassle it would be to find a god willing to take me in if I had to go around the city looking for one on my own.

Nodding, Zelena brought out a small notebook from her bag and put it on the table.

"Usually, the only Familias that put out recruitment notices are those of newly arrived gods and weaker Familias. They don't use to have requirements as just finding members is already a problem, on the other hand, the bigger Familias like Loki's Familia or Ganesha's will have very specific requirements for whatever role they wish to recruit in the rare occurrences where they take initiative to send a recruitment notice."

As she finished saying that, she put a few recruitment notices on the table.

"Take a look at this one first." She pointed at the one issued by Ganesha's Familia. "Right now, his Familia is mostly responsible for the security of the city and is only recruiting level 2 and above adventurers interested in becoming city guards.

"This one here is from Loki's Familia. Because one of their best supporters recently retired, there is now a gap in their dungeon raid team and they have put out a notice to recruit any good supporters that are at least level 3."

Hearing her words made me understand just how much of a hassle it would be to join any of the strongest Familias. Even if just to be considered as a potential member, I would need to be a high-level adventure, which is only possible by having joined other Gods before.

"Ahh..." I sighed with annoyance at the situation. It would be very difficult to find a suitable Familia to join. "Miss Zelena, I understand that the strongest Familias won't recruit me at the moment, but what about the other ones that are weaker?"

"Well, some of the Familias recruiting right now are the Soma Familia, the Miach Familia, and a few others as well... All of them are in search of adventurers that have to explore the dungeon so it's somewhat dangerous given their weak overall combat strength. Do you wish to see their recruitment notice?"
