Within the labyrinth city of Orario, there are a few rules that must be strictly remembered:
Deities must not leave the city at will. All registered adventurers, unless given a special commission, cannot remain outside the city for extended periods (months or more). …
"Oh-le-wa~ Ganesha da~"
Right, as long as you know that guy up there, some of these rules? Just take them with a grain of salt.
Today, Lucan has just arrived in Orario and naturally hasn't built any connections with that loud-mouthed "Elephant God."
Fortunately, first-time visitors to Orario don't need to show a "pass" or anything similar.
According to a guild employee:
> "Orario, as the 'center' of the world, attracts hundreds, if not thousands, of people daily who dream of becoming adventurers."
> "If we had to meticulously screen everyone who entered, we'd never finish our work."
> "It's not like it was seven or eight years ago during the height of the Dark Faction's activity."
> "Now, we just use this magic item to check if you have a God's Blessing and confirm you're not a spy or criminal sent by an opposing familia."
While hearing this explanation, a gatekeeper scanned Lucan's back with a crystal orb. After confirming that Lucan was just an "ordinary person," they waved him through.
---
Indeed…
"From a rational perspective, an ordinary person trying to cause trouble in a city full of adventurers is like shining a lantern in a cesspit—asking to die."
"That said, it's not impossible… or unheard of."
At the very least, Lucan could think of nine different ways to stir up trouble without getting caught.
But, of course, he currently has no such intentions.
---
"The Dark Faction?"
Lucan was familiar with the term.
In the original timeline of this world, that malignant force nearly destroyed Orario.
Sure, most of them were just clowns, but some…
"When they attacked Orario, they certainly didn't walk through the front gates."
As these thoughts passed through his mind, Lucan had already entered Orario's city limits.
He was well aware that many eyes were now on him.
After all…
"Modern clothing doesn't exactly blend in around here."
Unfortunately, when Lucan was isekai'd here after being struck by a meteor, he only had his wallet, keys, and a smartphone on him.
If it weren't for that cursed "Seven Choices, Pick One" mission, he'd already be joining either Hestia's or Loki's familia.
Instead, here he was, anxiously worrying about not having a weapon for self-defense.
---
"First, let's figure out where the Soma Familia is located."
Unsurprisingly, this information wasn't something you'd find in the original story.
Adding to his problems, Orario doesn't accept modern currency, making Lucan a penniless vagrant at the moment.
"If I can't complete the initial quest today, I'll be sleeping on the streets tonight."
And Orario's nighttime streets? Yikes.
Truth be told, it's basically a death wish.
Even though the gatekeeper mentioned the Dark Faction hasn't been active in years, that doesn't mean all adventurers are virtuous saints.
Here, even with the Ganesha Familia acting as a pseudo-police force, the city isn't far removed from a lawless zone.
People die here all the time.
And even if you survive…
"They'd strip me of everything I own."
Getting robbed down to his underwear on his first day in another world? Lucan had no intention of experiencing that humiliation.
So, by his calculations, the time he had to complete his initial quest and join a familia was less than three days.
Actually, not even half a day.
Otherwise…
"I might as well go Lick Freya?."
Lucan muttered something that reeked of defeatism.
---
"Licking Freya??"
Behind him—or rather, in his ear—a curious-sounding girl's voice suddenly piped up.
Lucan froze, a shiver running down his spine.
He immediately stepped back a few paces and turned toward the source of the voice.
There, standing in a maid outfit, was a gray-haired girl staring at him.
And then—whoosh!
Without a word, Lucan took off running.
"Hey~"
The voice behind him was calling out, clearly trying to stop him.
But to Lucan, her tone was just as terrifying as someone shouting, "Friend, don't run!"
Especially chilling.
"Damn it, does she think I haven't read DanMachi? Of course, I know that some flirtatious gray-haired goddess loves to run around in disguise, teasing naive little adventurers!"
"Joining the Freya Familia is the absolute last resort… Not to mention, even if they accept me, once you're in, you're not getting out."
Lucan's determination didn't waver.
---
Slapping himself lightly, he muttered, "Serves me right for running my mouth."
He hurried toward the city center, where the towering Babel Tower loomed—marking the entrance to the dungeon.
On one side of its plaza was the adventurers' guild.
Lucan's plan was clear: go there, ask a guild employee about the Soma Familia, and get accurate directions.
However, he'd forgotten one very crucial detail…
The Babel Tower is a rather special place.
Freya lives there.
---
Half an Hour Later…
"…"
Now bound hand and foot and hauled before a certain goddess, Lucan was utterly speechless.
This was the topmost floor of Babel Tower, Freya's personal residence.
In front of him sat the gray-haired goddess herself, lounging on a throne with one leg crossed over the other.
In her right hand, she held a goblet of red wine. Her outfit was—well, let's just say it pushed the limits of modesty.
Behind her stood a towering man with the build of a mountain, his expression as calm as a guard dog awaiting orders.
Lucan realized his original plans had gone completely off the rails.
Just earlier, this hulking pig-man had swooped down out of nowhere, snatched him up from the Soma Familia's doorstep, and carried him here like a stray kitten.
And now…
---
"What an amusing little thing."
Freya toyed with Lucan's smartphone, unable to unlock it due to the fingerprint sensor. She stared at the lock screen wallpaper with fascination.
On the side table sat Lucan's wallet, keys, two credit cards, and a bundle of useless currency.
"Now, explain to me…"
Freya's gray eyes narrowed as she leaned forward.
"What exactly do you mean by 'buttering up Freya'?"
"…"
Good grief. One innocent slip of the tongue, and now he might not live to see tomorrow.
Lucan began to worry if he could leave this room alive.
---
It's common knowledge that familia members can't kiss their gods—ahem—what was meant to be said is:
Mortals cannot lie in front of a deity.
Of course, after sealing their divine powers, gods can't read minds.
But even this "lie detection" ability makes things tricky enough.
For example, right now…
---
"I came to Orario to become an adventurer."
"Hmm~"
"I did my research beforehand and learned quite a bit about various familias."
"And?"
"The Freya Familia is one of my backup options."
These statements were all flawless.
And they were also all true.
However…
"Just a backup?"
Freya remained silent, but the towering man behind her furrowed his brow deeply.
His mood was clearly sour.
This was Ottar, Orario's sole Lv. 7 adventurer, and the man known by the gods as "King ."
To him, his goddess was the most exalted existence in the world, her every thought and will unquestionably correct.
In other words: anything related to her was above reproach.
Yet here stood a mere mortal—not even a proper adventurer—someone who didn't even qualify as a rookie, daring to consider the Freya Familia as a backup option.
Ottar very much wanted to cut this man down on the spot.
But, as always…
Ottar was wholly loyal to Freya. He would never act beyond her wishes.
For now, since his goddess hadn't spoken, he would simply stand guard as her protector.
