Danger sighed and ran his fingers through his hair. "I've been thinking a lot about what you said. About trying something new. I think I should. I might find a new passion ya know? Or at the very least get motivated to fight again." He said.
"Wow. Well. I'm proud of you." I said.
He looked at me quickly when I said that and then he just laughed. "You're proud of me for quitting?" He asked in confusion.
I nodded. "It can't be easy living in the spotlight. I think it's really brave of you to admit you're not happy and to do what you want to change that. Everyone's going to think their entitled to having an opinion about your life. But it's YOUR life and you just have to live it." I said.
He stared at me for a second when I said that. "You're the only person I've told." He admitted.
I raised my eyebrows in surprise. "Not even your friends and family?"
He shook his head. "Especially not them. When you interviewed me I figured I could talk to you about it since we don't know each other, so when you called me stupid or looked dissapointed I wouldn't take it to heart. But you didn't do any of that, so I took it as a sign to mean quitting right now was the right thing to do."
"I don't know. Don't you think you should at least get a second opinion from someone who isn't a total stranger though?" I said.
"Nope." He answered with a smile. "I haven't felt so at ease in years. I don't have to worry about starting to train for next year. Or entering other competitions on the side. I don't have to meet people. I fired my manager."
"Woah! Well, I guess your serious. So what now?" I asked.
He hummed lightly to himself for a second before answering. " I don't know. I think I'll sleep for a week and then decide." He said as he hopped off my bed. "Here," he added as he held out his mini screen for me to connect with.
I just raised my eyebrows at him.
"What?" He said, "Come on I want to keep in touch. I don't have anyone else to call that will encourage me to do career ending things."
My heart started pounding in my chest. "Hey! I didn't encourage anything!" I said, even though I did. But I didn't need any of his mob of fans knowing that.
He just laughed again. "I'm kidding Glad. I know it probably seems like an impulse decision but I've been thinking about this for a while now. I think I'm doing the right thing." He said and he wiggled his mini screen waiting for me to connect mine.
I grabbed it off my night stand and pressed the back of mine to his. A prompt appeared on the screen asking me if I accepted Danger as a contact. I clicked yes and he smiled.
"So, see you around?" He asked. I just nodded as he headed to the door. As he opened it he turned around and smiled. "Next time we see each other, maybe I'll interview you" He said. Then he gave me a quick wave and dissapeared before I could say anything.
It's never too late to change your career path. Always remember that!
