Chapter 34: Disunion
"So... What now?" As soon as everyone set foot on island three, these were the first words to resonate in everyone's ears, coming from the stargazing astronaut.
"I'll tell you now what Kaito, you all go get me some food, bed, and entertainment" Kokichi did not waste a single second to rant back at Kaito, more impressive was how not a single hint of sarcasm was fused in his words.
"Come on guys it has just been a couple of seconds and you're already arguing" Kaede tried to put an end to this useless interaction between the two of them.
Kokichi and Kaito, from the first instance they met, knew they were like oil and water, they were never able to find common ground without something greater to achieve. Could this be the exception for both of them to work hand in hand?
"I propose Kaito as the first sacrifice," Kokichi said while raising his hand.
"You want to kill me already???" Kaito responded in shock and anger.
"Agh these degenerates, just fighting each other for no apparent reason" Tenko was just observing in the distance alongside Ryoma.
"How the hell are we supposed to survive with these two hyenas going after each other every damn second?" Ryoma added.
"Come on you two! Stop!" Kaede was in between the two rivals, who were holding the other by the collar. Finally, after a few seconds, she separated both of them. "If you keep at it, it's just going to make things even harder!" Kaede scolded both of them.
"I know but I can't handle being around this guy" Kaito pointed at Kokichi scornfully.
"Same here I can't stand Kaito's odor is gonna make me vomit if I'm anywhere near him" Kokichi ignited the discussion once again.
The screams and accusations broke out, Kaede and Tenko tried to manage their way into it to break it up, however, there was no determination in any of the two's voice.
"I'm done listen to your nonsensical chatter" Ryoma who was slowly getting frustrated by the moment interjected, with a powerful voice to back him. No one could ignore the deepness and secureness of his voice.
Silence, everyone was looking at Ryoma.
"If this keeps up, then I propose a plan," Ryoma said with a powerful glare. "You two can never be together, so let's do two separate groups" Not everyone was following Ryoma's idea. "Tenko, Kaede, and Kaito you'll be in charge of looking for food and water, and Kokichi and I will look for a place to settle, it shouldn't be that hard" Ryoma proposed, but he wasn't finished. "The main purpose is always having these two children away from each other at all times, we can switch teams from time to time, but we can't let these two together"
"Ah finally! Someone in my own wavelength" Kokichi responded, "I think that'll be the best for me" His egoism and self-comfort was his top priority, he could never think about anyone else's wellness.
"No complaints here either, if I just need to see him at bedtime, then I'll be too tired to argue with the punk" Kaito seconded Ryoma's motion.
"That's the plan then" Ryoma looked tranquil for the first time since stepping foot on this island, "Now let's eat our lunch quickly and start before it's nighttime" With that everyone agreed and went to get their own lunches, provided by the tutors.
"Hey, Kaito! Yours looks amazing! Come on switch me!"
"You already finish yours you pipsqueak! What am I supposed to eat??"
"Hmmm well, there are plenty of rocks on the ground, go on help yourself!"
"Hey! Stay away from my lunch! I am warning you!"
An hour passed, everyone was ready to fulfill their own duties, however, not everyone was on the same page.
"Hey Ryoma, bring me some water I'm thirsty" Kokichi just kept complaining the whole day without any care in the world.
Ryoma was getting irritated by the minute, instantly regretting the plan he came up with.
While the two of them were surveying the island in search of a place to sleep, the other team was having big trouble trying to find any natural resources to eat.
"Man, there are no trees whatsoever," Kaito said while looking around at the deserted plains.
"Hmm, maybe our best bet is fishing" Kaede added trying to come out with a solution.
"Oh! I know how to fish! My master and I used to fish together from time to time" Tenko's eyes sparkled with the idea and started to reach inside her backpack.
"Finally something going our way," Kaito said while smiling, giving off a relaxing aura.
"Okay! Here we go!" Tenko pulled out her foldable fishing pole. She quickly assembled it and found herself a sitting spot just at the border of the island.
She pulled her fishing pole back and with one strong and agile movement, she sent her line and hook flying swiftly like a soaring bird, it slowly lost its speed and height until reaching the water's surface.
"WOW That was pretty cool" Kaito and Kaede were left speechless, they have seen Tenko in action before, but not to this extent.
"It's not for male trash like you to admire" Tenko gave a condescending look to Kaito.
While Tenko was fishing and whistling, Kaito and Kaede started to assemble their own fishing poles and tried to catch some fish as well. Meanwhile, the two of them chat away.
"So, how is everything with Shuichi?" Kaito didn't realize that he was hitting a soft nerve on Kaede's head.
"Well to be honest there is something bugging me..." Kaede knew she could resort to Kaito for a piece of advice.
"I see..." Kaito was trying to deduce as much as he could with what Kaede told him. "To be honest, can you believe what that Nagito guy said?" Kaede was taken aback by what Kaito said. "I mean shouldn't you know, he is your advisor, after all, you know the guy is pretty nuts" Kaito added.
"It is true that Nagito is kind of special, but what would he achieve out of lying to me?" Kaede kept throwing ideas.
"True..." Kaito was left with his imagination to come up with an idea, "Maybe, it could've been something to do with that hope thing he is always talking about" Kaede's eyes opened up as soon as she heard the word hope.
"But then again, why resort to my relationship?" Kaede couldn't think of any reason why Nagito should involve Shuichi in the search for hope.
"Aghh, all this thinking is hurting my head, let's come back at it in a while" Kaito's brain was smoking, he definitely was not made to think this much. "As much as I would wish to be like Shuichi at this moment I can't" Kaito gave a sigh and focused on his fishing pole floating in the middle of the water.
Kaede couldn't help but look at her bait's sinker floating freely in the water. Would her love for Shuichi keep floating, or would someone eventually pulled down on it and make it sink to the depths of the unknown sea.
