Chapter 70: Chapter 69: Azu's First Kill

"What do you want to say, John?"

Bruce frowned, glaring at Azu.

"You're a liar, a thief, and a deceiver, Bruce. You deserve to be punished, but I won't do that because Dad needs you."

Azu stepped closer, his tone steady but menacing. "You promised Dad twenty thousand dollars and a bar. If Dad finds out you're a liar, he'll be deeply disappointed. So—I won't let that happen."

Bruce stared at the self-righteous Azu, speechless. "You think I'm a liar, John?"

"Without a doubt," Azu retorted.

Bruce glanced at the worried orphans behind him, giving them a reassuring look before stepping toward Azu.

"Do you know why Mr. Podrick gave me a hundred dollars the first time he met me, John?"

Azu hesitated before replying, "Because you deceived him."

"No, it's because Mr. Podrick doesn't judge people by their appearances."

Bruce locked eyes with Azu, his voice sharp and deliberate. "But you, John, will never understand how to look beyond the surface. That's the difference between you and your father."

He continued, "Mr. Podrick reads beyond the pages to understand the meaning, while you only see the words on the paper."

Bruce vented his frustration at the prejudiced and arrogant Azu, his words laced with sarcasm.

"Shut up!" Azu, his face flushed red, shouted angrily, "You're spouting nonsense!"

Azu eyes briefly glowed red with fury, but he quickly regained control, blinking to dispel the crimson light.

Then, thud.

The dull sound broke the tension as an orphan standing near Azu suddenly collapsed, blood splattering onto Azu's face.

Confused, Azu instinctively touched the bloodstains on his face. His laser vision had been fully restrained, so how had this happened?

The answer became clear moments later. Screams erupted as several masked men wielding weapons appeared in the alley, surrounding them.

"Don't move! Hands up!"

"Get on the ground!"

The heavily armed attackers charged at the group.

Bruce, startled, realized the assassins were targeting him. Without hesitation, he fled the scene as fast as possible.

Bang!

Bruce leaped over a railing into another street, sprinting away with agility.

Vroom!

The roaring sound of a powerful engine approached from behind—a yellow Bulldog Jeep racing toward him like a wild beast.

Heart pounding, Bruce fought to suppress his fear and anxiety. As the Jeep closed in, he dodged to the side and spotted an unattended motorcycle nearby.

Gritting his teeth, he mounted the Yamaha. He had learned motorcycle riding from Alfred.

Vroom-vroom!

Bruce leaned over the motorcycle, cranking the throttle to its maximum. The powerful engine roared, sending him speeding away like a wild horse.

The yellow Jeep pursued him relentlessly.

Meanwhile, back in the alley, Azu stared at the orphan convulsing on the ground from a gunshot wound. His gaze shifted to the armed killers advancing on him with menacing intent.

Everything seemed to slow down—the air thickened, and time crawled. Azu could hear his own heavy breathing, the metallic scent of blood, the chaos of shouts, and the thudding footsteps of the gunmen.

Whoosh!

Azu turned sharply, his eyes igniting with red light.

Zzzap!

A beam of red laser burst from his eyes, piercing the chest of one of the attackers. Blood sprayed as the man collapsed with a dull thud, his wound gushing crimson and staining the ground.

Azu glanced at the stunned attackers, his glowing eyes intensifying. His small face twisted with rage. "You… are unforgivable!"

Despite having witnessed many deaths during the grand hall incident, this brutal method unsettled him.

One moment, Bruce's "brother" was alive in front of him; the next, he was lifeless on the ground. The suddenness and brutality were overwhelming.

And targeting children? Why?

Peter had once told him that children are gifts from God, not to be harmed.

"What kind of monsters kill children?" Azu roared internally.

Fueled by anger, his laser vision shot out again, striking a frozen gunman. Blood sprayed as the beam scorched through the man's chest, leaving him lifeless.

The remaining attackers snapped out of their shock.

"Damn it! He's a freak! Shoot him!"

"Kill him!"

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Bullets rained down on Azu in a barrage, but he didn't dodge.

The bullets clinked harmlessly off his body as though striking solid steel.

As the gunfire subsided, Azu inhaled deeply and activated his super speed. In a blur, he appeared next to one gunman, grabbing him by the collar and hurling him skyward.

The man screamed, experiencing a terrifying free-fall.

Meanwhile, Azu laser vision cut through another advancing attacker, leaving him lifeless on the ground.

Minutes later, Peter arrived on the scene.

After hearing from Clark that Azu and Bruce had left the hotel, Peter and Martian Manhunter had gone searching for them. Using his super hearing, Peter located the chaos and rushed over.

Standing at the alley's entrance, Peter froze. His gaze fell on Azu, drenched in blood, surrounded by corpses strewn across the ground. He inhaled sharply, overwhelmed by the gruesome scene.
