I took, a sharp breath in. No one had spoken to me like that before. At least not to my face. What was most shocking, outside of the words themselves, was the context.

Olivia had always been so wonderful and sweet.

Everything I wasn’t, but in the best possible way, she helped to compliment me and make things better overall. One thing I knew for sure was I wouldn’t be the man I was without her and the kids.

All of a sudden she was coming at me like I was an ogre or a tyrant and she was head of the resistance. There was nothing to account for it, but I started noticing a change soon after she was freed from the attic. I’d just put it down to the shock of the situation.

“I never said you couldn’t make decisions,” I said, in the privacy of the master bedroom.
