They were simply trying to prevent the Metal Ancestor Dragon within Paisi Dingda from noticing the anomaly in the warehouse too quickly, hence why they approached the Gem Box indirectly through Jay Spade.

Invisible, Noland slipped through the door crack into Jay Spade's Study Room and cast "Mind Control" at close range on this somewhat elderly Light Wizard.

Noland's "Mind Control" had only 10% completeness, its power being 10% of the normal circumstance.

Under normal circumstances, he wouldn't be able to control Jay Spade, the Eighth-Circle Light Wizard.
