Chapter 9: Suicide Plan

Everyone looked at the situation waiting for a response from the thief who had done nothing but annoy and abuse the good hospitality of everyone since he arrived. The captain could not believe the attitude of his entire group, he understood that one would look for a way to escape from his lousy reality, but a fight was an exaggeration. Fenrir despite his attempts to handle everything with elegance and in a civilized manner, there he realizes that maybe he should have acted more responsibly while he was in that place instead of being a presumptuous idiot.

"There must be a way to leave in a polite manner without apologizing. It would be going against my principles if I do something as idiotic as that." Fenrir thought.

"If you like, I can handle it.", said Kalishar.

"How?", Fenrir and Tuck react at the same time.

"I think I understand, you do not want to kill this guy because for you it is a waste of time, I understand, where I come from that is also a way to demonstrate strength, presence can impose and more if it comes from a living being with a force that manages to intimidate the hearts of others. For a second I didn't understand it, but by now Tuck must recognize that he won't be able to beat you and that it's better that he submits to your will."

"What is wrong with this stupid girl? How can so much stupidity come out?" thought Fenrir as he looked worriedly through the girl's brain.

"Grrr, that's what you told her about me?"

"I don't even know you, I would understand if you were defending the honor of knights, but you're doing it for your ego. Doesn't it seem strange to you, and her." He points to Kalishar. "You should worry more about the crazy things this idiot blurts out without thinking."

"Why don't I score points with you?" the girl asked curiously.

"Look, she's on your side and you keep insulting her, I should kill you now that you're here. No more kindness, it's time for you to die like the criminal you are.

"This guy really is a gentleman?"

Everyone was like Fenrir, some of the gentlemen who had even started gambling were beginning to think for Tuck's well-being because of the attitude.

"That's enough you two, we are gentlemen, not a bunch of thugs or drunks in the midst of having fun at the bar! I don't care what started the fight, you will settle it with words and not stupid actions. Do you understand me?"

All the knights, including Fenrir and Kalishar, affirmed firmly and fearfully at the man's voice, Captain Bruce had demonstrated his authority in a way that even the girl recognized the old man as an alpha among humans. It is at that moment that Fenrir has a flash of ideas that manages to catch him completely, he begins to remember with every detail the actions and behaviors of the zerbarix down to the smallest detail, they always respond to someone stronger than them. The weak ones were devoured, and the strong ones were always to rule and be above the weak ones.

"Alphas and omegas!" cried Fenrir.

"What do you say now?!"

"Listen, these things respond like any other living being, a being that is above them."

"You're an idiot! The zerbarix don't think, they just eat. A hierarchy of alphas and omegas requires that they recognize the concept of strength and subjugation.", Tryforn replies.

"At first I thought those things didn't think, but as Captain Bruce said. Kalishar and I are the only ones who made it out of the nest, I don't know what knowledge she will have, but from what I know, is that I can state that a zerbarix responds to an alpha and the alpha devours zerbarix. I doubt these things have a hive mind in which we could kill them just by killing an alpha, but if we manage to kill all of their leaders, we could trigger three possible scenarios. One a new zerbarix chaos in which they will start eating each other to try to get new alphas, if that happens, we just have to kill the stragglers and take care of the new weak and wounded alphas by the power frenzy. The second scenario and in my opinion the also acceptable one, that nothing changes and just wait for those things by the resurgence of new alphas."

"And what would be the third one."

Fenrir swallows saliva, feeling nervous about the possibility, it was a plan that used very little information from him and more speculation, but that was the way it had to be with these things and without sacred relics in abundance or legendary knights. Perhaps crazy bets were his best play until he found one of the two options above.

"Well, as with stirring up a hornet's nest, once the yoke of the alphas is over, maybe these hungry zerbarix will end up annihilating us by going unrestrained outside."

Everyone commented and insulted Fenrir's stupid and lethal idea, not only was it dangerous for them, but if the third option happened, they would release a plague that was still under control. There was much, really much to lose if everything bad came to fruition, that is if they believed they could eliminate all those supposed alphas. The plan was the most suicidal and insane of all, maybe why Fenrir was a complete idiot who didn't know what he was saying worse than the weird girl.

"The first scenario can happen."

Kalishar was the one who raised his voice in favor of Fenrir's plan. Everyone looked at the suicidal duo eager to expel them as soon as possible so they wouldn't do crazy things that would detonate the end of the world.

"If we were to eliminate the alphas, will the lower zerbarix eat each other?"

"The intake of a zerbarix to become what you call, an alpha, is one thousand zerbarix corpses, but as it happens even among themselves they don't eat until they test each other's will to resist hunger. And that's not to mention that even if they had consumed five hundred zerbarix corpses, there's no guarantee that they would ever consume the other hundreds they need. I could see you took out three Fenrir alphas, do you know how many are left down there?"

"No miss." he replies with a smile.

"Five. If all five alphas are eliminated, you could create real chaos, the eggs will be easy to eliminate, as well as the five year old hatchlings that are weak and defenseless. The big ones will cruelly eat one and others. They became dependent on a figure of superior strength after the big massacre. They won't want to leave the nest until they get the right signal and only an alpha will give it."

"How can you know exactly that there are only five alphas?"

"Because living there for a while, they all saw me leave the nest, so they can't deny it. And yes, I can assure you that those five alphas are easy to recognize, the zerbarix that respond to them will not move a muscle without your permission and would prefer to move away so as not to become food for them. In other words, kill all the alphas and the nest will fall prey to its own hunger for power."

"Excuse me, and how do you propose to locate and even more impossible to kill the alphas?" asks Ahori.

"Well without having the proper weaponry, I think I must be the one who manages to deliver the killing blows against the alphas to finish them off. At the end of the day I was able to kill three of them. And as for the location."

"I can recognize them without a problem, however, it won't be easy to get close to them. They are usually in constant motion, they would never stay in one place for long, except."

"Except what?"

They all look curiously at the girl, who replies that the best way to find an alpha is to have the alpha come to them. If they detected a large amount of zerbarix blood in the area, they would go to find a feast of meat from them already prepared for consumption. The proposals, as creative as these were, failed to contain hearts because they suggested something they were already doing and failing in the process.

"What would be different?" Captain Bruce approaches Fenrir and Kalishar, regardless of whether they are alphas or simple zerbarix, if that duo is serious about their plan, they need to prepare an effective plan. "I remember you saying that yesterday's strategy wouldn't work tomorrow or something like that. If they held out to kill one alpha, maybe the other four remaining ones could learn without a problem and then kill them like bugs."

"Luckily, for us, with the death of the three alphas, no doubt the others will come to the site to understand what happened and see what to eat. The decision is to kill them at the same time, without them being able to react or understand their situation, that will be our victory."

"Calm down you two, they already look like they share brains, it's been days since they got you out of there. What makes you think they'll still be waiting?" asks Tuck.

Tuck's remark seemed to have been the final nail in the conversation, not even Fenrir could guarantee that they were all still around, they would have at best just one leading back to the problem of adaptability, rally the creatures to the fight and have new plans prepared by then.

"I can help, I can check if they are there and tell you guys to start acting and fight."

Despite Kalishar's words, no one was interested in a plan that had come out of two airheads. However, Bruce asked if the girl would indeed do that task and confirm the presence of the alpha zerbarix for them. Kalishar answered in the affirmative, even saying that if they delivered the necessary things to Fenrir, the two of them alone would take care of the mission. The swindler clarified that two people were certain of death, if he managed to eliminate three alphas it must be mere luck and even he recognized that the chances of repeating such a miracle were low, not to say improbable.

The girl smiles saying that with the crazy plans he was putting together, they could make it, but perhaps, as a vote of confidence, she would let the man decide the number of people. Captain Bruce steps forward saying they had three hundred knight units approximately, although the number of those nearby hovered between one hundred and twenty and one hundred and fifty. The hustler asked what if any other exits from the nest, to which it was clarified that there were three others guarded. Luckily, they were as quiet as the one they were in, but they wouldn't know how far. The way Captain Bruce could confirm the tranquility and order of the other points was thanks to the information of some smoke bombs that were fired in the air at the end of the week. There Fenrir asks him for three smoke bomb launchers and gives them to Kalishar as his means of communication with them.

Fenrir then asked for the ten best knights who had been able to hold off and repel the zerbarix that had tried to leave the nest. There were Ahori, Tryforn, Tuck, Zanzalien, Magiter, Marlon, Frederick, Mariene, Urungi and Martin. Those ten knights were the ones who had not only withstood the attacks of the zerbarix with the least of the wounds, and could also kill at least one. Fenrir had the other good seventy-five knights close to the entrance both inside and outside, it would be their safety line to escape in the worst case scenario and the others to support quickly with arrows or close the entrance in any way possible to prevent an even bigger fight.
