It starts out, as most Chinese novels do, with a downtrodden, out of luck MC who suddenly receives good fortune in the shape of a wizard's hat shaped Virtual Reality helmet. The good point is that he needs to work to gain skills that can then be applied in real life but... it feels that his power progression is a bit rapid. On the other hand, the story is very well written and the emotional scenes are conveyed terrifically. It will be interesting to see how well the story eventually develops. I must commend the translator for such a good production. The use of language and expression are perfect plus the writing is enrapturing and drawing. On the whole, i recommend reading it for a bit of a Sci-fi / Wuxia twist.

While there are plenty of great novels out there, and quite a few on this site alone, I would call this one special. I don't know if the current quality will continue but I'm looking forward to finding out. Here's what's so attractive about Commanding Wind and Cloud: 1. Characters. Despite having some generic tropes, the quality of the characters is a step above similar novels. It's not because they don't fit the usual archetypes (archetypes are used for a reason, they work), but there is more to them than the defining personality trait. Simply put, there's depth. Without spoiling anything with specifics, the characters evoke emotion, intrigue, and find a place in a novel that could ignore them for the sake of letting the protagonist power up and move on to brighter horizons. 2. The main character grows powerful at a rapid pace, but as I said above it doesn't rush the story. In fact, it gives him the appropriate weight one should have when you've grown quickly, and helps push him towards his goal, driving the story as opposed to muddling it. 3. Story driven. As I mentioned above the novel is very story driven. The main character has a method that helps him grow quickly (minor spoiler or absolute genre certainty?), but it doesn't become so central to the story that it becomes the story. In fact, it's done tastefully, giving its own flavor without ruining the world building and character development needed in this type of novel. I could continue to talk, mention good points (and bad, let's face it every novel has some negative attributes) but it's not necessary. I'll simply say this is a novel with balance, and if you like the genre you will appreciate the elements you've come to love and appreciate the focus that went in to keeping everything on track and presenting this story well. At least as of now, though hopefully, it thrives throughout.

Highly recommend this novel as it is a very fun read. Plus so far it has elements of gaming (without the level system so its not annoying) and focused on warriors, mages, and blacksmithing. And the best part is, apart form the slight choppiness in the first chapter, the rest of the chapter flow smoothly, and the world building is done slowly but at a good pace too so it reads like a western novel at times

If you leave your common sense at the door you probably could enjoy this novel a bit. I couldn't and I suffered. The story has so many tangents without a background to any of it. You cannot even call this a dumb fun story. Power to those who enjoy it but it was not my cup of tea.

I know, this review feels a little bit personal because for the novel itself, i loved it, even i re read it multiple times. So.. please don't kill our spirit and gype of this novel. And dont leave us alone in the dark, occationally popping up on thr comments would be fine. I doubt it would cost you a few minutes. It's a damn shame the novel got dropped. One of my favorites that I've been following for quite a while. I'm not understanding why it was dropped though. It was fairly popular and had very few filler chapters and didn't dwell on the unimportant things. It had just enough explanation of his training while not going to in depth. If I had any complaints it woulda been that the women would come outta left field with their feelings for him but at least they had their own personalities.... DAMN SHAME!!!

Legit the best story I have ever read, interesting plot and idea. However, the flaw to this story I believe is the inconvenience the hat has, which the MC requires his system to work physically with the hat on his head. Besides that, this story was well-written, translation quality is alright, and the plot is uniquely intriguing.

After reading to about 170 chapter i just can't keep going. The dialogue and thoughts shouldn't both be in " " , Every-time i read something in " " i assume they are speaking only to see -thought XX. Sometimes it seems like they are thinking, but it turns out he is speaking. It's like a goddamn guessing game every-time you see " " you can't be sure if they are speaking or thinking, so you have to read the whole line, read after it to know if those are thoughts or words and ONLY then you can insert it into the story. So many times i get it wrong. Really the worst thing about this novel is that, at this point im just tired of the guessing game.

Hi I’ll attempt to give you a better synopsis of this novel. I almost didn’t read this novel due to the title and the synopsis of the novel. This novel is not the typical cultivation type of novel nor is it one of those MC with a system to give them OP powers. Honestly calling the magic hat a VR system is a poor description. If you’ve read Shadow Hack, then this story will be pretty similar. I eat rainbows and sometimes they taste like water , but the real good stuff taste like skittles. I go around eating rainbows so I can tell you which ones are skittles and the ones that are the tasteless water vapor that they are . And this novel tastes like skittles my friends. Good character building ?( yes) Strong willed character that actually needs to put effort to improve ?( yes) good interaction with side characters and a tinge of romance? ( yes). Good world building that is not info dumped in paragraphs and is slowly shown to the reader?( yes). That there is already 5-6 different flavor folks. If you don’t like the orange skittles there’s always the red one . In other words taste the rainbow folks, aka good read.
