Chapter 3: 3

"Brave men rejoice in adversity, just as brave soldiers triumph in war." Nelson had once said.

Sven wondered if it was the brave men or the stupid that smiled in pain. The Clouds formed a perfect line-up in the blue, as if they were boats safely mored in celestial harbour.

The troupe continued their journey. Nature here was fascinating. Having lived in the desert for his whole life, Sven couldn't help but marvel at the beauty the world had to offer. When they paused at dusk, Sven offered a share of his food to the animals. He started to understand and appreciate them more. And he witnessed a variety of them at that. The birds in the sky were close to music for the eyes. Dancing for each other as they watched as a supportive audience. The nights annoyed Sven as mosquitos buzzed at his ears and however fast his reflexes were, those nasty, miniature pests were too swift.

After what seemed to be months they exited the forest onto a slope of huge plains. At the foot of the hill was a huge lake and in the centre was a city. The city was circled by huge walls, around 70 ft tall. There was a huge drawbridge that allowed the group to cross the lake. At the end was a portcullis manned by soldiers dressed in plate armor. They inspected everyone before the gate was heaved up. Sven felt accomplished as he crossed over the gate into the spine chilling spectacle of a city. The commanding knight walked up and announced," This is the Citadel, the capital of Pelagus!" Sven witnessed Colors he had never before imagined, Gleaming likes of which he had never before perceived, the clothing looked more lavish and polished than anything else he had ever seen. He lost his prowess to verbalize his thoughts. He just didn't have words for it. The knight went on to explain as the group went forward, showing off important landmarks and such. The houses grew continuously bigger as the neared the Royal Palace. It would be an understatement to call it the palace a ginormous edifice. It was built like castles from bedtime stories Nelson had read him. It was vibrant, maids, helpers, and guards wore dazzling clothes, sparkling. The place seemed jubilant.

The group pushed onto the castle grounds, somewhere south of the palace, no dawdling or sightseeing the palace. Once everyone had dumped their belongings in the dormitory, they ran out into the training fields. The place was empty except for the few soldiers training. The group lined up. The knight stepped forward," You younglings will be the future of Pelagus! I, Gavin the III, will train you to become as strong as, No, I will train all of you to surpass me to become the greatest warriors!!!
