Chapter 2: The White Room

A baby girl was strapped on what appears to be an operating table. The ugly appearance made many of the observers to look away. The horrible wailing sounds do nothing to help in that aspect. Looks wasn't the only deformity she had, even her vocal chords were badly/horribly developed beyond repair to be making such terrible shrieks. Rachael's existence seems to be proof of God's twisted humor, probably one of the many children damned for eternity.

Anna walked in shortly wearing surgical attires. The entire room as as white as usual. White walls, white floors and even the ceiling is white; lit by white fluorescent lamps. It's no wonder why this room was infamously known as the white room.

" Is everything prepared for the procedure ? "

She asked her assistant behind her. A timid looking young girl dressed in similar attires as her.

" Yes, Lady Anna. "

Serene signaled the other members who were also dressed for the occasion to make the preparation. An additional group of five similarly dressed people quickly arranged everything that is necessary around the little girl. Their efficiency was impeccable, worthy of being the cream of the crop from the medical world.

It is always said that geniuses think alike and often enjoy challenging the impossible. Constantly breaking society's taboos and moral expectations. An experiment as such has always been a taboo and as illicitly as can be. If they were caught red-handed, death penalty would be the least of their concerns. Yet the thrills from breaking boundaries have always intrigued geniuses regardless of the consequences.

" Let's begin! " the elderly woman said.

Rachael was quickly sedated and all sorts of equipment were plugged into her. Behind the glass wall Sir Sigmund was among those observers witnessing procedures after procedures conducted on that little girl. Various dangerous rays were shone on her little body. Assorted drugs and chemical compounds injected into her. There were even times where her heartbeat halted, just to be resuscitated yet again.

It is said that human genome was the culprit of deformities and illnesses. By modifying our core blueprint, a drastic change might be unlocked in the long run, for better or worse. But before it gets better, destruction and sacrifices are required like a phoenix having to burn itself before being reborn anew. Painful as it may be, it was a necessary evil in order to go against God's will.

Pieces of flesh and bones were destroyed and reconstructed to form proper limbs. Vocal chords were removed. The blind eye was also taken out, leaving a hollow socket on her face. At the end of the procedure, a mummified body of a child was left on operating table. The final touch was an injection of some bright multi-colored liquid into her body. Now all that's left is to observe if she could survive for the coming few weeks while enduring harsh pains and agony that will begin once the anesthetic wears off.
