Chapter 6: Running Away Into Trouble

Rory's pov

I didn't know the exact moment whereby I forgot that Alex didn't propose to me or asked me to marry him, and that it was initially because I was betrothed to him. I didn't know how I completely forgot about that, that it shocked me to the core on being reminded by Alex right now.

Perhaps it was because of how I ended up falling for Alex, thinking he fell for me as well, not knowing it had all been an act. That's the only reason why I let the line get blurred, which made me delude myself into thinking I had a choice in going along with the marriage or not

I sucked in a deep breath, suddenly feeling like a really dumb fool. Alex was still staring down at me, a blank look on his face, hands folded.

"I- I…" I trailed off, not knowing what to say.

"I'm gonna send another outfit to you for the wedding, get some rest. The wedding is in two days." He reminded me, voice low. Every softness which used to be in his voice whenever he was talking to me wasn't present.

It made me shudder at the stark difference.

I pushed my hair out of my face before attempting to respond.

"I'm not getting married to you, Alex. I refuse to go along with the marriage." I forced the words out of my throat, watching as Alex's eyes narrowed.

"Did you not hear what I just said? You don't have a choice in this decision, Rory." Alex explained, starting to sound exasperated.

"I'm gonna repay the debt my father owed. I'll repay it. I'll work and raise the money. But I refuse to go along the wedding, I won't do it."

Alex's brows furrowed this time before he let out a laugh. "Do you even know the amount your father owed? It's a lot, you wouldn't be able to pay it off in ten years. And I don't think my father is that patient. Don't make this unnecessarily difficult for yourself, hm?"

I pursed my lips and remained silent, hands folded as I listened to him speak. It was true that I didn't know how much my father owed, but I'd prefer to carry that debt as my own than to go ahead and marry Alex, and I made that known to him.

He scowled at me this time, hands jammed deep into his pockets as he spoke. "Well, I'm not gonna waste unnecessary time. The new outfit would be sent to you. You can chose the easy or hard way, that's completely up to you. Just know that the wedding would commence no matter what."

Without waiting for a response, he headed towards the door, but I made him slow down to a stop at the last moment.

"Just get married to my sister. You genuinely love her and she loves you as well. So just… get married to each other and leave me out of it?"

This time he let out a small snort. "What made you assume we hadn't contemplated this? Of course we had. You were the second option in this entire situation."

The last part made my heart drop into my stomach and once again, the fact that I'd always be a second choice got slapped right in my face. It made my eyes start to sting but I forced the urge to cry away.

"Okay." I ended up whispering.

Alex stared at me a moment longer before scoffing and exiting the house, door banging after him.

I remained in the same spot long after he left, while asking myself of what my life has now become and what I'd be doing about it.

I couldn't get married to Alex.

I just couldn't.

He had literally talked about getting rid of me once he was done with me, he had said those words to my sister and she hadn't bated an eye. It was clear they both hated me.

There's no way I'd ever go ahead with that marriage.

As I head over to my room, a particular thought emerged in my mind.

Run away, Rory.

~~~
And that's exactly what I did.
I ran away.
At least, that was what I was initially trying to do, right before a group of men began to chase me as soon as they noticed that I was an omega walking alone in the night.
Because of my fear of being detected, I had no other choice than to wait until nighttime to begin my plan of running away. I had barely covered anywhere before alphas who lacked self control sighted me began to tail me first, but as soon as I broke into a run, they did the same.
I blindly ran forward, through trees and long branches.
My legs weren't long like that of an Alpha's, so after everything, they ended up catching up to me, guffawing maniacally as they threw me on the ground and tore my clothes, desperate hands dragging over the curves of my body.
I screamed and pleaded for mercy, cursing out the fact that I was an omega, a classification of wolf which most alphas desire like their next breath, but would never see them as something more than a hole to stick their dicks into.
I was struggling underneath the men when bright lights got shown on us, and at once, a relieved sigh went through my veins on realizing that the new corners were the patrolling palace guards.
The vile alphas ran off at once, leaving me with my torn clothes on the ground. After one of the guards who had just saved my life dropped a blanket over me and helped me to my feet, I realized that I had literally walked right into something I had previously been running away from, because the guards refused to let me go, claiming that they were talking me to the alpha prince. The guards sighted the few stuff which I had been running away with, bringing it along with them as they dragged me all the way to the palace.
