Chapter 14: Chapter Fourteen: You have angered her

Lukas sat back in his chair dejectedly and they drove to their father's mansion quietly. When they arrived the cars of bodyguards behind them stopped and surrounded them leading them inside the property.

They followed a road that led to a mansion. The mansion was considered a castle except that there were many renovations done. Mr.Yves' parents moved out of the castle because they wanted to retire and live far away where they could live peacefully. Mr.Yves' brother and sister-in-law moved out as well to enjoy there time together and they both work in their own company. Recently they taught about adopting a child so they were still working on the procedure.

The Yves family is technically of royal blood but they aren't the ones that ascend the throne. Instead, they are just like other royal blood descendants that support the main family. The Davis family are the ones in power. The other royal blood houses only serve as allies and most of their princesses get engaged to other families to increase their power. This also includes the Davis family but no news of any engagement of coronation has been announced.

The Yves family is usually not very much involved when it comes to marriages because they come from a house of military Generals that serve their country and protect the royal family. That's because their family is more modern than the rest and more open-minded. In the past marriages were forced but now they have become arranged marriages. The times have changed and the royal family has become more modern.

The Yves castle now looks like an enormous mansion instead.

Their car slowed down and So did the car of guards behind them. The guards at the gate opened it and bowed their heads. The chafer stopped right in front of the mansion where their father was standing with his cane on hand.

Yaci was the first to come out and the Lukas did. All the guards made a line and waited for Yaci and Lukas to walk pass them. Lukas warmly hugged their father who gave him a warm smile. Yaci turned to greet him and he also smiled at her. "How have you been Yaci?" He asked.

"I have been doing fine. I'm sorry that I didn't come and visit you last week. We  had a busy schedule at work." She responded. "Don't worry about you are here aren't you?" He replied.

Clair turned her iPad off and carried her jacket on her arm. She stepped out of the car a looked at all the guards lined up. She scoffed. "Father exaggerates too much." She mumbled. She looked up to meet his eyes and he gave a nod.  She smiled lightly and walked towards him with an expressionless face.

"Father." Clair lowered her head. Mr.Yves expressions softened and he pulled her into a short hug. He thought about how rebellious she was when he met her and chuckled.

The chauffeur closed the door and took out the suitcases from the trunk. A few maids came out and took the suitcases inside. "You are finally back." He whispered. "Father you just saw me a few days ago don't overreact. I also told you about the whole parade you do every time I come. I hope you have been taking your medicine. Also-"

Mr.Yves interrupted her nagging. " Doctor Liz is getting more annoying by the day." He finished off her sentence and rolled his eyes. "Go inside you brat. I already had enough of your nagging." He complied and hurried her inside.

" I'm just telling the truth." She shrugged and entered the house following by Lukas and Yaci.

….

Yaci and Clair were sitting down on a sofa and watching Mr.Yeves and Lukas chat about him coming back from his trip. They shared a glance and rolled their eyes at the same time. Mr.Yves would make use of Lukas and have him spill out everything that has been going on in his life before he turns his attention to the two. That's because both Yacu and Clair are more reserved and prefer to keep to themselves. However, Lukas is more open and talks a lot.

By having Lukas talk so much Mr.Yves would encourage them to speak as well. Of course, this never really worked because he always got only 1% of the information from them.

"How did your trip go?" Mr.Yves turned his attention to Clair just like she expected. After asking something from Clair he would go to Yaci and ounce back and forth until he got to know what he wanted or to say his intentions.

"It was great. I signed the contract with DavisJoe but unexpectedly their CEO never arrived. I was thinking about not signing it. I don't have a problem with becoming their rival anyways. Besides, I don't trust them. I don't even know who they are linked too." Clair replied casually.

"I did some background check on them and it's too clean. I believe they are connected to some prestigious family but who knows." Clair sighed and took a sip from her coffee. "Even Yaci failed to get some information about them," Clair added and Yaci shifted in her seat knowing the questioning would turn to her.

To their surprise, Mr.Yves didn't ask about the company and switched the topic. "Really? Well, Yaci is very excellent but I'm sure if you try again you will succeed. Yaci you should visit more. Tell me how is Grace doing?" He asked.

Clair narrowed her eyes suspiciously. 'He knows something.' She concluded and Yaci gave a nod as if agreeing to her thoughts.

"Grace has been doing great she has been staying with her grandparents for the week. I will bring her to visit next time." Yaci responded. "That's great," Mr.Yves replied and avoided Clair's gaze.

Clair looked t her brother but he was to busy admiring Yaci so she turned her attention again to her father. Mr.Yves gave her a nervous smile and she placed her cup of coffee on the table. " It's about marriage right?" She asked and the room fell silent. They all turned to look at her and swallowed.

Yaci leaned back on the sofa and sighed. 'Crap.' She thought and swallowed when she felt the temperature drop.

"Clair…." Mr.Yves sighed. "It's my friend's son. The royals are being threatened at the moment and marriages have not accrued in a while. You know I don't want to force into anything but the agreement was set since the moment I saved you…" He informed her.

"This is the 'request' you were talking about right?" She asked calmly. "Yes." He replied honestly. "So you saved me so you could marry me off?" She asked and he shook his head. "The engagement started with your mother but I didn't want to tell you then because of what happened."

"So you thought it would be a good idea to tell me know?" She asked. "That's great." She laughed sarcastically. "Like I said I won't force you. Back then I didn't think I would come to love you as my daughter. I never imagined that you would become part of our family." He answered and he sighed again.

"This marriage is crucial because the person who you will marry is-" Clair stood up and sighed. "Fine. I'll get married." She told him and walked away. "Clair!" He shouted. "I became your heir. I worked hard! I did everything because I was thankful….If I have to marry then I will. Don't worry about it. I won't refuse the request." She told him and walked up the stairs.

They were all quiet after they heard her words. The sound of a door slamming close made them jump and they froze in shock.

She looked calm and obedient but her actions said underwise.

"Father you have angered her," Lukas commented.

"I know that!" Mr.Yves shouted and sat down on the couch with guilt.

"I have to handle a monster at work this week," Yaci muttered pitifully.
