It was a silent night.
But in Rose Hotel in city Keadow, it was just time for a luxurious birthday banquet.
Amelia Harper, in a nice evening dress and with the birthday crown on her head, was walking to stage gracefully.
People cheered her on, praised her, and applauded for her.
As the daughter of the most famous real estate businessman in this city, Amelia was blessed. She was well-educated, stunning, and gentle. In a word, she was the kind that everyone loved.
At her twenty-two-year-old birthday party, her father, Charles Harper, gave her half of the shares of his company. As her deceased mother's will, all such shares were hers to have.
Charles stood on the stage with a smile on his face and an agreement paper in his hand, waiting for his beloved daughter.
Amelia was more than excited at that moment, but she kept the calm smile on her face and walked to the stage gracefully.
"Michael, I have got a surprise for you,"
she said gently.
She met Michael Steele in college and had made a deal that they would get married just after they graduated. Today, she would announce this after receiving the shares from her father.
Michael was the second son of the wealthy family in this city, the Steele family. As a man from a rich family, he was surprisingly talented. Her father talked with him before and thought highly of him. The two were just the perfect match from any perspective.
However, to Amelia's surprise, Michael didn't look happy after he heard that. He forced a weird smile and looked bizarre.
Amelia was stunned for a second.
Perhaps he just didn't believe that she would announce their marriage so soon.
Thinking of this, Amelia calmed down and smiled at Michael. Then she walked gracefully to her father.
Amelia, the brightest star today, was praised by everyone here, except for her stepmother, Delilah Harper, and her step-sister, Bella Harper.
"Mom, look at her smug smile. I'm sick of that. I have been enduring this for too long, and now I can't stand it anymore." Bella said to her mother with a snort.
Delilah comforted her daughter, "The higher she gets, the harder she falls. Is everything I need ready?"
"It's ready," Bella pulled out a flash drive.
"Good," Delilah showed a weird smile as she looked at the girl on the stage.
"Everything would be different tonight, Amelia.
Show time."
At that moment, Amelia finally got to Charles.
"Happy birthday, Amelia," Charles stepped forward, held her hands, and hugged her with a smile.
"Thanks, dad," Amelia was delighted. She hugged and smiled back.
They then walked to the center of the stage hand in hand.
"Our honored friends, welcome."
Charles and Amelia got to the microphone.
"It's well-known to everyone that my ex-wife, Victoria Harper, has helped me a lot when I started my business in Keadow. I couldn't have made it without her."
Speaking of this, his tone changed, and he looked a little sad.
"Unfortunately, she worked too hard since she always wanted to help me more, which caused her to leave just after giving birth to Amelia. Before she passed away, she told me her last wish. I must give back her shares to Amelia when Amelia graduates from college."
He suddenly paused and couldn't help sobbing.
"Dad!"
Amelia couldn't bear to watch him cry. She also felt sad and tugged on his sleeves to comfort him.
"I'm good," Charles tried to control himself.
He calmed down and then raised Amelia's arm, announcing loudly, "Today, my beloved daughter finally graduated from college! She's an adult now, so I should keep my word. According to her mother's last will, I will give the shares to my first daughter, Amelia. Amelia, my daughter, happy birthday!"
"Happy birthday!"
"Happy birthday!"
Charles' speech lit the audience up. Some young guys proceeded to cheer for the birthday star.
"It seems that Charles loves his ex-wife much," a guest said to his friend next to him.
"No. If so, he wouldn't have married Delilah Harper. His second daughter is only two years younger than Amelia, but when Victoria Harper died, Amelia was already five years old. Can't you see something's off?"
"What? For real?" The guest was shocked, "But Charles still gives the shares to Amelia according to Victoria's will."
"You never know the truth in such a rich family. Just wait and see," another guest snorted.
On the stage, Charles brought out the agreement he had prepared.
"Amelia," he looked at Amelia with a gentle smile.
"These are the stocks of your mother, her will, and the share transfer agreement. Take it, and you'll become the largest shareholder of the Harper Group after your mother."
"Wait!"
Before Amelia took the documents, a woman shouted loudly and snatched the pouch.
Charles didn't expect that Bella would come on stage and snatch the documents. He frowned and shouted at her.
"Bel! Quit that! Give it back to your sister."
"No!" Bella raised the pouch and snorted.
"She doesn't deserve to hold the shares!"
"What are you talking about?" Amelia was shocked as she heard Bel's words.
She and Bella had different mothers, but they got along well with each other. Bella even wished her a happy birthday this morning.
Why did she suddenly make trouble at such a moment?
"bel, what nonsense are you talking about? Amelia is your sister, and what she will take today is her mother's inheritance. Why doesn't she deserve it? Get out of here. Don't make the guests laugh at us."
Charles was irritated and felt ashamed. He yelled at Bella.
"You should decide after watching this video. We are doomed to be laughed at today, but the one who will make them laugh is not me, but my sister!"
