Chapter 79: How Can It Be You

After having lunch at Chinchol Manor, Mike dropped Amelia off at her residence. The car parked downstairs, and as Mike looked at the place, he found the surroundings pleasant. "This is your home?" he asked.

Amelia nodded. "Yes, this is my home. I live on the thirteenth floor. Would you like to come up and have a seat?"

Thirteenth floor. It seemed like Mike remembered something.

"The east wing or the west wing of the building?" Mike looked towards the east, his gaze seeming to recognize the place.

"The east wing. Do you know this place?" Amelia looked at Mike, her expression filled with surprise and curiosity.

Mike turned his head, glanced at Amelia, shook his head gently, and avoided eye contact as if evading the topic.

"Ms. Sophia, I'll be heading back now. Please go upstairs quickly."

"Alright, take care on your way back."

Amelia watched as Mike left, then raised her head to look at her apartment upstairs. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about Mike's expression, but she couldn't quite pinpoint what it was.

Turning around, she walked inside, entered the elevator, and soon arrived on the thirteenth floor.

Opening the door and stepping in, she felt that something was amiss about the room. Aria's unfinished words from yesterday and Mike's evasive gaze today made her feel uneasy.

"Could it be that the previous owner of this house had some issues? But wait, the renovation is only halfway done, and this is a new building. No one should have lived here before, right?"

She murmured while walking towards the upper level.

Looking at the bedroom with its soft bed, she recalled Ethan's restlessness while sleeping last night.

"Is it because of the change in location?"

After finishing her self-talk, she remembered that Ethan didn't sleep well last night and seemed burdened, which didn't seem like it.

Should I ask? Amelia thought to herself, feeling increasingly anxious.

She took small steps closer to the bed and leaned over, her heart pounding.

But if he didn't want to talk about it, asking might be futile. How should she approach the topic?

Lost in her thoughts, restless and uncertain, her phone suddenly rang with Ethan's name displayed on the screen.

She picked up the phone and casually asked, "Hello, where are you?" Her voice sounded somewhat lazy.

After a few seconds, a woman's voice could be heard saying, "Hello, Sophia, it's me."

Judging by the voice, was it Rosetta?

Amelia's senses suddenly sharpened, and she quickly sat up.

"How can it be you? Where's Mr. Frost?" Amelia asked coldly.

Rosetta smirked triumphantly, her voice oozing with seduction. "Ethan is with me, of course. Otherwise, how would I have his phone?"

Amelia let out a disdainful laugh, knowing that Rosetta was trying to stir up trouble. "Why did you call me from his phone?"

"Of course, I wanted to tell you that Ethan won't be going back home this afternoon. You can go by yourself, and he won't be picking you up after work either. Just thought I'd let you know. Bye-bye."

"Hey..."

Amelia wanted to ask more questions, but the call had already ended.

"How could this be? He's not coming back tonight?" Amelia felt puzzled, but still chose to believe in Ethan, convinced that he wouldn't betray her.

Checking the time, there was still half an hour before she had to go to work. She walked downstairs, hailed a taxi, and went to Ethan's previous residence, the villa where they used to live.

Opening the door, she grabbed the keys to the Porsche and made her way to the garage. Carefully getting into the car, she drove off.

Driving herself was more convenient. She sped along the road and quickly arrived at the company.

...

"Ethan, you should go to work. I'll stay here with my mother," Rosetta said. Her mother lying on the bed, receiving an IV drip.

"I'll stay here with Aunt. There's nothing important for me to attend to," Ethan raised his arm and glanced at his wristwatch. It was already time to go to work. "Where's my phone?"

Rosetta smiled tenderly, walked into another room, and picked up the charging phone. She approached Ethan and handed it to him.

"Here you go. The battery died earlier, so I turned it off for you."

Ethan took the phone, nodding in acknowledgment. It did run out of battery earlier, and Rosetta helped charge it for a while.

He turned it on, and the screen displayed a missed call from Sophia.

Amelia had two phone numbers, one for work purposes where she used the name Sophia, Ms. Sophia. The other was her personal number, saved in Ethan's contacts as "Honey."

The entry for Ms. Sophia was still stored as Amelia, for convenience when someone else was present and needed to use the work number.

Rosetta found this number in the call log just now.

Ethan quickly dialed back as he walked towards the balcony.

"Hello, I can't come back right now. Let Mike pick you up," Ethan said.

Amelia paused for a moment and replied, "That's not necessary. I've already arrived at the office. Where are you now?"

"I'm dealing with some matters outside. Once I'm done, I'll come back," Ethan explained.

Amelia didn't ask further questions. If he didn't want to share, there must be a reason behind it.

"Okay, I understand."

After hanging up the call, Ethan returned to the room. Rosetta's mother looked at him gently and said, "You're busy with work. You should go back. There's really no need for you here. We have Rosetta taking care of me."

Upon hearing her mother's words, Rosetta walked to the bedside, facing away from Ethan, giving her mother a displeased glance.

Ethan sighed, slightly taken aback, and glanced at his phone. "Alright then, I'll come to see you tomorrow."

"Ethan, why don't you stay a bit longer? Drink some coffee," Rosetta suggested.

Ethan smiled, still as warm as ever. "No need, take good care of Aunt. I'll come tomorrow."

"Okay, don't worry. I'll take good care of my mother," Rosetta assured him.

Ethan nodded gently, walked out of the room, and Rosetta followed behind.

"No need to see me off, take care of Aunt," Ethan said.

"Alright," Rosetta replied.

Watching Ethan's figure leave, Rosetta's expression turned sour. He could have stayed, but he rushed back, surely because of Sophia.

Returning to the room, Rosetta sat down unwillingly, pouting and glancing at the IV drip. Her gaze shifted towards her mother.

"Mom, why didn't you ask him to stay? If you had asked, he wouldn't have left," she reproached with a hint of dissatisfaction in her tone.

Her mother looked at her and sighed softly. "I just have a common cold. For such a minor illness, is it necessary for him to stay? He's the CEO, he's very busy."

"He's indeed busy, busy pleasing others," Rosetta muttered under her breath, wearing her displeasure discreetly on her face.

"If you truly like him, you should fight for him. But you also need to consider his feelings, and make him see you as someone understanding, gentle, and considerate, instead of clinging to him like you are now. It's better to capture his heart," her mother advised.
