Chapter 23: The Worst Day [Bonus chapter]

Junwei stood up from the floor and sat on the couch in shock. He caressed his cheek as he recalled the slap. However, he wasn't angry. He felt strange. When Alex shook him up, he came out of his thoughts.

"What was that? Why you were on the floor and why Sophie ran away?" Alex asked him.

"Ahh, nothing," Junwei said. Now, he was furious. She slapped him! How dare she? And she ran away without even apologizing to him. A ruckus happened inside his mind. "You can go home," he told Alex.

"Did you two kiss each other?" Alex asked with a wide grin on his face.

Junwei beamed at him. "What did you say?" He was already infuriated and Alex had to say this to him.

"She ran away and you were on the floor. It seemed you both did something. The way Sophie ran away showed that you both kissed. Even your cheeks are flushing red," Alex said and teased Junwei.

"Leave," Junwei told him with a stern tone. "Get out of here!" He stressed his words.

"Relax, man! Okay. I am leaving," Alex said and waved at him. "I will ask Sophie if you kissed her," he stated as he took the backward steps.

"Alex, shut up! No such a thing has happened. Leave before I burst my anger at you," Junwei told him. Alex walked away soon while Junwei took out the phone from his pocket. He wanted to ask Sophie where she ran away after doing that to him, but he stopped.

Let her remain blocked!

Who let her inside his office? Was it Wang Zexi? His orders were defied again! He fisted his palms and then, pressed his fingers on the temple of his forehead.

His phone rang and he looked at its screen. "Grandpa, not again," he murmured and cut the call. He was fuming in anger and regretted his decision for signing a separate deal with her. "I should have remained firm on my decision of not involving her with me and my company," he mumbled when his phone rang again.

It was his grandfather and he answered the call.

"Jun, when you will arrive home, bring some dumplings for me. I am craving for them," Ziyang said.

"I have told you Grandpa that I will not be home today. I will send the dumplings for you," Junwei said. He didn't let his anger out at his grandfather. He was not at the fault, so he could not disrespect him in any way.

"I want to eat dumplings with you. I will be waiting for you," Ziyang said.

"Grandpa, I cannot come. I have–" Junwei paused as he found his grandfather had already disconnected the call. He called his mother and asked her to make Ziyang understand.

"I wish I could. Father is acting stubborn after he comes back from the USA. Is your office work more important than him?" Katie asked.

"Mom, both are important to me," Junwei said. He sighed and told her that he would be home soon. He hung up the call and let out a frustrated sigh. He knew that it was all his grandfather's tactics to pull him home daily even if he didn't want to.

He took out the car keys from the drawer and then left for his house. As he wore the seatbelt, he got Ziyang's call again, who told him to buy the dumplings from his favorite restaurant only.

"Yes, Grandpa."

Junwei put the phone away and drove to the famous street restaurant to buy some dumplings. The old lady in the shop smiled to see him and asked if his grandfather had returned.

"Yes."

"Why do you look angry? And what happened to your cheek? Why is it red?" The old lady darted her eyes at his cheek for a few seconds.

Junwei didn't want to tell her how he was slapped for no reason. That was the most embarrassing moment of his life.

"Are the dumplings ready?" Junwei asked as he looked at his watch.

The old lady told him to wait for some time and went to the kitchen. He looked around and found her restaurant was packed with customers as usual.

The old lady handed him the envelope which had dumplings in them. She asked him to be careful while driving. Junwei thanked her and left for his home.

When he finally reached home, his grandfather was excited to see him. Ziyang had those dumplings with his daughter and granddaughter. Junwei ate only one as he was not in the mood to eat anything. He told his grandfather that he had the leave when Ziyang stopped him.

"What now, Grandpa?" Junwei questioned with annoyance.

"Don't you love spending time with your family? With us?" Ziyang asked. "Why are you always into work? When I see others giving time to themselves and their families, I recall you. I am unable to understand how Fang Jiao could affect you till this date?" Ziyang complained. He was sick of his grandson's behavior. He was concerned for Katie too, who would always wait for Junwei to arrive home. But he didn't see all this.

"Grandpa, why are you bringing Fang Jiao up suddenly?" Junwei furrowed his brows and looked at him with inquisitiveness. "I have given you time. Whenever you asked me to come, I have come. I do everything you tell me to," Junwei said in a fit of rage. "You should not have come back," he stated.

"Jun!" Katie raised her voice. "Apologize to your grandfather!" She told him with an angry look.

"Mom, please! Grandpa made that woman sign a deal with me. I am troubled because of her. I told grandpa not to do that, but still, he did that. You both think that I do not understand anything. I hate it, Grandpa. I hate it when someone tries to get into my life without my permission," Junwei argued.

"What do you understand?" Ziyang counter-argued with Junwei. "For you, we are a nuisance, right?" he became furious.

"Father, please calm down. I will talk to Jun," Katie requested Ziyang and looked at Junwei.

"Katie, do not stop me today. Your son needs a reality check. Fang Jiao died long ago. He cannot ignore the people around him because of her. We gave you ten years to get out of her. Katie and I do not want anything from you except your care. Is it wrong to ask your children to eat with you, to talk with you, to give you their attention? I have also worked in the company, but I never did anything like this. I have also lost my wife and my two sons, but I never became the way you have." Ziyang let out his frustration. He was quiet for years, but today his patience ended.

Ziyang left for his room and asked Katie to send dinner for him in the room.

Katie looked at Junwei. "Why did you say your grandfather such a thing?" she asked.

Junwei didn't say anything and also left his home. This was the worst day of his life.
