Chapter 22: Flustered by her act
Zheng Daniel asked Sophie to sign a separate contract with Junwei. He beamed at her and then, gazed at Daniel. "I think we should cancel this deal," Junwei said and asked Wang Zexi for the document which had his grandfather's signature on that.
Sophie could not believe that Junwei was ready to tear that document if she would not sign a separate contract with him.
"Chairman Zheng, at least negotiate with him," Sophie whispered, but she was loud enough to be heard by the people around them.
"There is no way to negotiate with me. If you cannot agree to my fifty terms, then there is no need for me to have you as the brand ambassador for the new vehicle that I'll launch soon." Junwei had a grin on his lips. He knew that Sophie would never sign the contract, thus he would get rid of her. He would make sure that she had no communication with her grandfather after today.
The lawyer picked up the water glass and sipped a little water. When he made such a contract from the District Court, even he was questioned why the person included such strict clauses. But he didn't want Junwei to know about it, so stayed quiet.
Sophie found out that Ziyang wasn't uttering a word. She understood that his hands were tied because of the controversy that she had created. At last, she agreed to sign the contract, but she told Junwei to relax her in one term.
"Don't be adamant about that. If I can agree to sign such a contract, then you must listen to my one choice," Sophie requested him.
"I think Miss Lin is right," Wang Zexi said and apologized when Junwei sharply glared at him.
After contemplating for a few more minutes, Junwei decided to agree to give her relaxation in one of the choices.
"I will wear whatever I want to. You cannot say anything to me about that. If you find the problem in my clothes, then you can shut your eyes the entire day," Sophie affirmed. She pointed her finger at him and said, "I will keep the code of ethics of your company in mind." She pulled her hand back and then put it over her lap.
"I wish I could agree on that. Let's cancel the deal here," Junwei wasn't ready to agree to that.
Daniel and Wang Zexi asked Junwei not to be so harsh on Sophie. Even the lawyer supported Sophie and told Junwei that he could not restrict her from wearing the clothes of her choice.
Junwei picked up the pen and cut the first term from their contract. "Fine. You can wear the clothes of your choice," Junwei stated and forwarded the contract to Sophie along with the pen. She was first hesitant to sign, but then she signed and half-heartedly looked at it.
"Congratulations, Miss Lin. You are the official brand ambassador of Sunshine Technologies upcoming car model. We will soon make it public," Wang Zexi said as he clapped. Zheng Daniel also clapped along with him and stood up from his seat. He thanked Wang Zexi, the lawyer, and Junwei for their wonderful cooperation.
Junwei and Sophie continued to beam at each other, ignoring them.
'I will make you regret signing this deal,' Junwei said in his mind.
'I will trouble you every day. You did wrong by making me sign that contract,' she told herself.
Wang Zexi and Zheng Daniel looked at each other as they found the coldness in the moment of happiness.
"You both may leave," Junwei said.
Sophie picked up her handbag and walked out of the boardroom.
Zheng Daniel assured Junwei that Sophie would not create any nuisance.
Junwei didn't say anything. Wang Zexi showed the way out to Zheng Daniel. The lawyer also took his leave.
"Why my head is aching? Is it because of her annoying voice?" He murmured and stood up to go to his cabin. He stopped midway as he saw the keyring with a key on the floor. He stepped back and bent down to pick it up.
He was going to throw it away, but it looked like a small box key. He put it inside his pocket and then went to his office.
The clock was showing at half past six. Sophie took almost an hour to sign the contract. "I should not have been relaxed on her. It is unbelievable for me that she signed that contract," he mumbled as he leaned his back on the swivel chair. He closed his eyes which were aching, and he fell asleep.
With a jerk, he woke up from sleep and pressed the temples of his forehead. Only one light was lit in the room and he glanced at the digital clock on the desk. It showed him half past nine.
How could he fall asleep for three hours straight? He sat straight and saw that someone had put a blazer over him. It must be either Alex or Wang Zexi. He turned his chair and was startled to see the figure of a woman near the office couch.
Was he dreaming? What was Sophie doing in his office and the most important question, why was she sleeping on the couch?
He walked up to her and asked her to wake up. When she didn't, he shook her arm. "Hey!" He said. This time with a loud enough voice that broke Sophie's sleep. She quickly wiped the drool over her mouth and then sat straight.
She yawned and looked at him. "Give me my key," Sophie said and forwarded it.
"Key? What key?" Junwei was confused to hear her.
"The key with a panda keyring. I think I mistakenly left it in the boardroom. I checked there too, but I could not find it. You were the last person, who left the boardroom," she stated.
"I don't have any key," Junwei lied. He himself didn't know why he told such a lie. "Go home," he said and turned to walk to his desk when Sophie caught his forearm and pulled him in her direction.
Junwei staggered and he could not balance himself. He fell over Sophie, who widened her eyes. He was on his lap while his hands rested on the sofa headrest behind her and her hands were around him.
They stopped blinking for a few seconds. Their eyes met with each other. Sophie's heartbeats rose because of this proximity.
"Jun, I am going home. Make sure to go home," Alex voiced as he stepped into the office.
They both heard Alex when Sophie slapped Junwei and pushed him down. He fell to the floor with a loud thud and Alex saw that part only.
Sophie was flustered by her act and covered her mouth with her hand while Junwei was completely shocked.
"W-what are you doing on the floor, Jun?" Alex asked as he saw Junwei lying on the floor, and then he looked at Sophie, who looked shocked.
She picked up her handbag and ran out of the office as fast as she could.
