Chapter 55: Rescuing The Serpent Girl
Xiao Yu had no intention of intervening. The Sand Mercenary Group was a notorious enemy of the Desert Iron Mercenaries, and these serpent men were even less likely to receive his help.
The leading serpent man was at the level of a four-star Dou Master. Among the remaining five serpents, two were one-star Dou Master, and three were nine-star Dou Practitioner. In contrast, the Sand Mercenary Group's strength was unimpressive. Apart from the cold-eyed leader who was a one-star Dou Master, the rest were around eight-star Dou Practitioner.
The leader of the serpent men wielded a sharp serpent spear and charged at the mercenaries. "Hiss!" As the serpent's tongue flicked, the surrounding serpent men attacked the humans.
In moments, more than a dozen mercenaries were overwhelmed and defeated by the serpents, leaving only the human leader standing. Although he was a one-star Dou Master, he was covered in wounds and his fighting strength had significantly diminished.
Seeing his comrades fall one by one, the leader collapsed to his knees, recognizing the hopelessness of the situation—six against one meant certain death.
"Please, don't kill me. You can take the serpent girl in the carriage!" the man begged.
The serpent leader, with her green triangular eyes fixed on him, asked, "What's your name? Who sent you to escort her? Where was she supposed to be delivered?" She was referring to the serpent girl in the carriage.
Grasping at the chance to save his life, the leader replied quickly, "I'm Luo Kun, the deputy leader of the Sand Mercenary Group. This delivery task was assigned by our leader, Luo Bu. I'm not sure about the details, but our leader only instructed us to deliver her to Mo City to complete the task!"
The serpent leader seemed to believe Luo Kun's words. Just as Luo Kun began to relax, a murderous glint suddenly appeared in the serpent leader's eyes. With a swift motion, she drove her spear towards Luo Kun.

Luo Kun looked in disbelief at the spear impaling his chest. The sound of flesh tearing and the immense pain left him unable to scream. Blood poured from his mouth as he collapsed onto the sand, his life fading quickly.
The serpent leader coldly remarked, "If you take on such a task, be prepared to die!"
From his vantage point on the hill, Xiao Yu had witnessed the scene clearly. He intended to wait until the serpent men had taken the serpent girl from the carriage before searching for a water source. However, he noticed that instead of releasing the serpent girl, the six serpent men surrounded the carriage.
Xiao Yu frowned slightly. The serpent leader stepped forward and tore away the black cloth covering the carriage. The sight of the serpent girl inside was breathtaking, even for Xiao Yu, who had seen many beautiful women. Her phoenix eyebrows, bright eyes, smooth skin, and delicate features made her appear enchanting. Her soft arms were wrapped around her body, dressed in a red silk garment that highlighted her proud figure. Her lower half was covered in red scales, and her face showed fear and distress.
Her eyes, resembling pools of autumn water, were fixed on the serpent leader outside the carriage, evoking sympathy.
Despite the serpent girl's pleading expression, the serpent leader showed no mercy. With a sinister tone, she addressed the girl, "Sorry, but the serpent tribe can only have one queen!"
As she spoke, she thrust her spear towards the carriage, her murderous intent evident. The serpent girl closed her eyes in resignation.
At the moment the spear was about to pierce the serpent girl's body, a sharp wind sound cut through the air. A streak of purple light descended from the sky, crashing in front of the serpent leader and the girl. A long sword intercepted the spear, preventing it from advancing further.
As the swirling dust settled, the serpent leader saw a young man standing before her—it was Xiao Yu.
The serpent girl slightly opened her eyes and, upon seeing Xiao Yu's back, felt a wave of relief and warmth, sensing a new hope.
The serpent leader, however, focused intently on Xiao Yu with a cold, murderous gaze. Xiao Yu, unfazed, smiled and said, "Such a beautiful serpent girl should not be killed just like that. Since you're all from the same kind, don't you think it's a waste? How about you listen to me and let her go?"
Without any further discussion, the serpent leader waved her hand, and the five serpent men closed in on Xiao Yu. With a narrowed gaze, Xiao Yu's long sword trembled slightly, sending a shockwave that forced the serpent leader back.
As the five serpent men surrounded him, a stench filled the air. Xiao Yu frowned and gripped his sword tightly. He stomped on the sand, activating his Moon-Chasing Steps. His figure darted through the five serpent men like lightning.
In an instant, Xiao Yu appeared behind the serpents.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The sounds of heavy thuds followed as the serpent men fell, each with a bloodied neck and a gush of blood. Soon, they lost their lives.
Seeing his subordinates defeated so easily, the serpent leader's eyes narrowed. The display of power was clearly superior to his own.
The serpent leader hissed through his red tongue, "Human, you dare to kill our serpents in the Tagor Desert. You have angered us. We will kill you!"
Xiao Yu chuckled softly. "I've already taken action. What's the point in threatening me now?"
"Die!" The serpent leader's gaze was icy as he brandished his spear, which glowed with a faint green light, indicating it was poisoned.
With a cold, foul aura, the serpent leader charged at Xiao Yu. Xiao Yu covered his sword with Bone Spirit Cold Fire and, with a flick of his wrist, unleashed a white sword energy towards the serpent leader.
The two forces clashed mid-air with a sizzling sound. Smoke rose as the otherworldly flame evaporated the poison from the serpent spear.
Seeing the white flames surrounding Xiao Yu, the serpent leader's eyes showed fear. He decided to retreat.
Noticing the retreat in the serpent leader's eyes, Xiao Yu decided to cut off the threat. He could not allow future trouble to arise.
Xiao Yu stomped the ground and surged towards the serpent leader with incredible speed. The serpent leader was taken aback, and as Xiao Yu's eight-star Dou Master aura erupted, the serpent leader's eyes widened in terror. "You're an eight-star Dou Master? "
Xiao Yu smiled faintly. "Goodbye!"
Thud!
With a flash of sword light, a wound appeared on the serpent leader's neck. Blood spurted out as the serpent leader fell, lifeless.
Turning around, Xiao Yu saw the serpent girl's eyes filled with sadness, seemingly mourning the deaths of the serpent men.
