Chapter 5: Do you even lift, Bro? Got to be tougher!

The world around Kano kept on revolving and everything continued on as if his existence did not matter. While he knew that in the most relevant sense, he didn't, it still annoyed him to no end. He glared in defiance at everything around him, but only the same rabbit that had ignored him before still remained.

"Poor little guy, YOU SHALL FACE WRATH THE LIKES OF WHICH YOU HAVE NEVER KNOWN!" and Kano lunged at the small creature. However, it was still a rabbit and still as fast as the ones he had seen before and deftly took off running as fast as it could away from him. He had no hope of catching it.

Still, he tried, though a few sprints and jumps later he was breathing hard from exhaustion and decided to give up for a moment. Angrily, he amashed his fist into his thigh, and a small bit of eldritch fire danced across his knuckles.

Kano stared in shock as he slowly brought his hand up to his face. Nothing appeared different to his eyes, he checked his sheet, but nothing changed there either. <Raise Dead> was still bouncing around in his thoughts but it still felt fine as well.

He shook his head as it was possible that he had simply felt a bit of wild magic. He had seen instances of it in the game, but they were usually much more exaggerated.

"No matter. Still need to catch the bunny... and kill it. His bones will make decent components so the drain of casting will be a little less when summoning undead. Not to mention <Bone Missile>. That spell would work great right now. Hmm. What about a different approach? <Undead Fortitude>!"

<Undead Fortitude>, a spell which allows the caster to ignore any and all stamina drain effects as long as the spell is active. (Warning! After spell ends, caster will strain twice the amount of stamina for double the amount of time spent under the effect if this spell.)

Kano grinned evilly as he brought his hands up and together until his fingertips were touching. His eyes closed as he recalled all of the arcane movements his characters had performed as well as the Words of Power required.

"Blordos. Meir. Viten. Rahn! Viten, Rahn! Meires! Viten! Rahn! Rahn! RAHN!!"

Eldritch fire created runes in the air about him and evil green flames licked at his body. Bolts of electricity, the color of a sickly green danced about as the runes coalesced and entered his open mouth. Kano felt his body change as the power coursed through him and the Words of Power joined the ones in his mind already.

"Alright bunny. Tricks aren't just for kids anymore!" He yelled as he dashed once more after the quickly fleeing rabbit. This time as he ran after the little rodent, he did not feel the least bit winded and his body was not aching like it normally would after only a few steps. Kano found himself becoming engrossed with chasing the rabbit and noticing nothing else the closer and closer that he got to it. He knew he would catch it this time for sure.

That is until he burst through a thorny bush. The small spikes and thorns ripped at his robe and tore at his skin, scratches appeared across his body and small rivulets of blood welled up at each cut. He roared in pain and leaped forward, pulling the offending branches with him as he slid out of the bush. The rabbit ran directly into his legs and bounced off of him, confused that he was there. Kano quickly snatched up the defenseless animal and wrapped his long slender fingers around its neck.

As he squeezed, he could feel the life of this animal within its furry body and he began to calm down. The fury brought on by pain loosened its hold on him and the spell he had cast also dropped. Exhaustion once more flooded his body, but he willed himself to stay upright. Slowly, he relaxed his grip on the rabbit, but still kept it from leaping away. He had never taken a life before and he discovered that he wasn't comfortable with it now.

In the game, he had done so many many times, but now. Now it was different. There were no bits of code that made his character, just Kano himself. The words of power were still buzzing around his mind, but he swallowed hard and forced them back into the depths of his psyche.

"Alright little bunny. I'm not ready for that step yet. At least not a defenseless bunny, anyway."

Slowly, he squatted down and set the small animal free. With a swiftness it jumped away and ran back into the patch of briar.

"Consider yourself lucky, bunny! This Necromancer simply did not want your bones today!"

Truthfully he did, but if anyone were to have witnessed his moment of weakness, he would never be taken seriously.

"Maybe, I chose the wrong path from the start... or maybe I'm just going about this the wrong way. Why should I chase down and kill things? I should have minions for that. Then I would never know this feeling."

Kano suddenly realised he was speaking in the first person again. He had started referring to himself in the third person around the age of 13. Mainly to annoy other teens and especially adults, but if he were surprised or off guard, he would slip back into first person. He snorted in derision at his failings. 'No ones sees me as a person. So why should I?'

"The Master Necromancer will now find a suitable candidate to be his minion. Yes. That is what he will do." And without another word he strode toward the starting village.

He recalled that there was a graveyard near that village. It would be full of the villages ancestors dating back to before the Cherished Empire's founding. Possibly further.

As he walked he passed by a small babbling brooke and his throat tightened from thirst. He had been so busy with his, well, whatever he thought he was doing, that he had forgotten to eat and drink.

"Right. Rest now. Then onward, to Minions!"
