Chapter 157: Stay alive, baby 

Martha raced down the street even when everyone was telling her to stay back. If the ache in her knee and the exhausted lungs couldn't stop her then mere mortals could not. She eventually made it to where Asher was and she felt the world stop.

Everything slowed down to a slow crawl.

For a second, what she saw was an image that would take years of therapy and alcohol for her to move on from. Her son looked like he was drowning while her grandbaby laid on the stretcher. She looked pale like she was intentionally deprived of blood. 

Martha froze and that image stayed with her for a few minutes. She had a feeling that it would stay with her for a long time.

She looked around. There was an ambulance and two paramedics near Starr's lifeless body.

The paramedics checked for a pulse "No pulse. Starting CPR" 

Martha watched as they tried to restart her grandbaby's heart and she saw when they gave up.
