Day 54:
9:00 AM – Woke up to the sound of excited chatter outside my door. The minions had discovered an old map in the archives that depicted a labyrinth beneath the castle. Naturally, they were eager to explore it. I, however, was still groggy and less enthusiastic about potentially getting lost underground.
Interlude – Morning Mystery:
Seraphina: "A labyrinth? Sounds exciting!" Vortax: "Exciting is one word for it. I'd prefer to call it 'potentially disastrous.'"
10:00 AM – We gathered in the courtyard to review the map. It showed a complex network of tunnels and rooms, with what appeared to be a treasure chamber at the center. The minions, ever optimistic, were certain they could navigate it without any issues.
11:00 AM – Armed with torches, snacks, and Spark (who was now our unofficial mascot and moral support), we descended into the labyrinth. The entrance was hidden behind a secret door in the dungeon, which opened with a creak that sent shivers down my spine.
Interlude – Entering the Labyrinth:
Grog: "Are you sure this is a good idea, boss?" Vortax: "Define 'good.' In any case, it's definitely an idea."
12:00 PM – The labyrinth was dark and musty, with walls covered in ancient runes. We followed the map, turning left, then right, then left again. After an hour of wandering, we reached a dead end. Seraphina suggested we backtrack, while Spark happily chased its own tail.
1:00 PM – After retracing our steps and consulting the map (which seemed less helpful by the minute), we stumbled upon a room filled with mechanical traps. Blades swung from the ceiling, and arrows shot from hidden holes in the walls. Fortunately, most were rusted and moved slower than Grog on a lazy day.
Interlude – Trap Troubles:
Minion: "Duck!" Vortax: "More like stroll casually under. These traps are older than I am."
2:00 PM – Successfully navigated the trap room with only minor scrapes. The next part of the labyrinth was a series of confusing passages that seemed to loop back on themselves. We ended up back where we started twice before Seraphina pointed out that the map might be enchanted to mislead us.
3:00 PM – Spark, ever the intrepid explorer, found a hidden lever disguised as a torch bracket. Pulling it revealed a secret passage. We followed it, hoping it would lead us closer to the center. The passage was narrow and winding, but we pressed on, encouraged by Spark's excited squeaks.
Interlude – Secret Passage Discovery:
Seraphina: "Spark, you're a genius!" Vortax: "Our little dragon is full of surprises."
4:00 PM – We reached a chamber with a large, ornate door covered in strange symbols. Seraphina deciphered the symbols, revealing a riddle. After a few wrong guesses (and some hilariously bad suggestions from Grog), we solved it and the door creaked open.
6:00 PM – Inside, we found the treasure chamber. It wasn't filled with gold or jewels, but with ancient artifacts and scrolls. The minions were slightly disappointed until they realized the historical value of what we'd discovered. Spark found a shiny crystal and played with it, its joy infectious.
Interlude – Treasure Triumph:
Grog: "No gold? Just old stuff?" Vortax: "Sometimes knowledge is the greatest treasure. Also, this crystal is pretty neat."
8:00 PM – We made our way back to the surface, tired but triumphant. The minions carried the artifacts carefully, while Spark proudly held onto its crystal. We emerged into the fresh air, greeted by the evening sky and a sense of accomplishment.
10:00 PM – We celebrated our successful expedition with a feast. The minions were already planning their next adventure, eager to explore more of the castle's secrets. Seraphina and I shared a quiet moment, marveling at how much we'd discovered and how much closer we'd become through these escapades.
