Wu Zhitian's expression remained impassive since her words did not faze him. Instead, he was surprised that the girl wasn't disgusted because he was a demon.
"Does Long Wen know?" Yu Xuelan asked.
He shook his head and asked, "Do you find me disgusting?"
Yu Xuelan widened her eyes at his remark and smiled, "Why would I? I don't care if you're a human or demon or animal or rock or plant."
She realised what she had just said and mumbled, "Or maybe it does matter since you won't be able to talk if you were a rock."
Wu Zhitian did not expect those words to come out of her mouth. He thought she would avoid him, jump out of the carriage, run far away, and not want him to be in her line of sight ever again.
Yet what she said made him quite relieved and happy. So happy that he instantly stopped himself from such joyous emotions. In the end, he knew he did not deserve such happiness.
The girl noticed his bangs were quite long, that it almost covered his eyes when he lowered his head. She subconsciously reached out and brushed his bangs away from his eyes, which seemed to block his sight.
An indescribable heat arose within Wu Zhitian's chest and towards his stomach. He widened his eyes at the sudden contact and looked up at Yu Xuelan's dark coloured eyes.
She realized what she had just done and laughed it off. "Your hair is growing really long! I'll help you cut it when we go back to the Feather Temple."
She slouched and crossed her legs. "Well, demons are originally humans, so there isn't really a distinct line between them."
"Maybe it's because I was trapped in the demonic realm for so long that I've already forgotten why there is a margin between the two," Yu Xuelan laughed jokingly, feeling sorry for herself.
Hearing herself talk about the coexistence of demons and humans triggered a memory of the contrasting character between her late father and Yu Yang. Her father had always desired peace and despised violence.
He never allowed the disciples of HaiShen Yu to train in martial arts or any sort of art form that involved someone getting injured. This made his dear brother, Yu Yang, quite enraged. Yu Xuelan's father's ultimate dream was for demons and humans to end their years of bad blood and live together in peace.
She turned back to the white-clad cultivator and saw his troubled expression. Although some would find it to be just his day to day expressionless face, Yu Xuelan knew he was repulsed by his entire existence.
Seeing him hate himself so much made her want to hunt those who would make him feel this way and twist their neck.
Yu Xuelan reached her palms out and pinched both his cheeks, lifting them up. He blinked in awe, and a sensation of tightness filled his chest.
"I remember you used to always have a bright smile," Yu Xuelan joked.
Wu Zhitian, "..."
The black-clad girl pulled her hands away and sighed in relaxation. "Can I ask you something?"
The boy nodded slowly, still dazed by the sudden contact.
"Why does Bo Fan hate you so much?" She asked.
"I destroyed his manor in the demonic realm."
"Oh, why did you destroy them?"
He stared at the girl's eyes that were sparkling in anticipation, and bluntly said, "He was annoying me."
A chuckle escaped her lips, "I guess I should be careful about not stepping into your territory."
He widened his eyes and shook his head, "You can come whenever you want."
"Really?" Yu Xuelan beamed with excitement, and he nodded.
"That's why he always disappeared from time to time... He probably went back to the demonic realm," she thought.
"Wait, is that why you stopped killing demons?"
He nodded, but shook his head at the same time.
"Before I knew it, all the demons I stumbled across started following me. So I just ordered them to stay away from me so I wouldn't have to deal with them."
Yu Xuelan laughed in her head, feeling slightly sorry for the demons that wanted to worship him. Although there were so many questions she wanted to ask him like if he was actually involved with destroying half of HaiShen Yu and what kind of deep hatred for the world caused him to become a Demon God, she would wait for the right time to come.
Now that she placed the pieces together, she finally understood why his room and study was so segregated from others.
Was he afraid that others would find out?
...
After talking amongst one another, Wu Zhitian remembered something and grabbed the lotus bag from his sleeves, handing it to the girl.
She grabbed the objects inside and realised they were the books they bought at Ming'An Village about her.
"Oh! I've always wanted to read them!"
"They are a bit exaggerated."
Yu Xuelan picked up the first volume and started reading with anticipation. Who knew how the cultivation that despised her so much wrote about her life?
When she finished, her mind could not comprehend what she had just read.
"What is this?!"
