Chapter 31: I Think Someone is Dead Again
"Wait, you are Sect Master Wu's personal disciple?!" Lin Changying exclaimed in shock at the two.
Lin Changying's eyes attempted to glue themselves on Wu Zhitian's unchanging face and she was still unsure why she was so shaken up by his presence before.
The three walked under the scorching sun and the houses and the people along the way became more sparse, with the landscape gradually filling itself with greenery.
"Sect Master Wu, how did you and my sister meet each other?" Lin Changying asked curiously, attempting to break down the barrier between them.
Wu Zhitian remained silent for a while as if he was deciding on what to say but responded quite after, "At a mountain."
"A mountain? Wasn't it a village??" she thought.

After many attempts of talking to the white-clad boy, Lin Changying decided to give up on breaking down the barrier between them.
"Yuhe, does Sect Master Wu not like talking to people?" She whispered.
"No, he's pretty lively is I say so myself," Yu Xuelan laughed.
"Lively? Lively? That's lively?"
"Don't worry, he's actually very nice when you become closer with him."
She thought, "This is so sad to watch. No wonder Wu Zhitian has been single since birth... Even though it doesn't have to be this young maiden here, but she's trying so hard to get closer with him yet he's not budging at all!"

The more Lin Changying and Yu Xuelan conversed, the more Yu Xuelan began to become quite fond of this Changying girl. She knew this girl was smarter than she seemed, maybe sneaky was a better description.
There was still some sincerity lingering in her words which made Yu Xuelan even more curious as to what this girl was thinking. Maybe she genuinely wanted to close the distance between her long lost sister, but maybe there was another reason as to why she's doing this.
After all, stupid people act smart, and smart people act stupid.
"Oh! You guys are heading for Hufeng City, right? For the festival?" Lin Changying asked.
"Mhm."
"You should be careful. I heard that the Earth Demon God's lair is near that city," she informed, subconsciously hugging her arms in fear.
"The Earth Demon God?" Yu Xuelan repeated, her lips slightly twitched upon hearing those three words.
"Yeah. He used to roam around Yang Forest but since he ate all the women he could find, he got bored of the place, so he moved somewhere else."
Yu Xuelan knew the Yang Forest very well, after all, it was the forest where a demonic realm gate had opened when she was back at Xiao Village.
While thinking about the village, she remembered the troubles she caused for Luo Ran and that old geezer. It was probably a traumatic experience for them since they died but Yu Xuelan thought it was rather a fun time.
"Lin Changying, aren't you scared to be talking about them? Most people wouldn't even dare speak mention their names," Yu Xuelan said.
"They're probably too busy doing evil things to even care!"
Yu Xuelan had barely heard about the three demon gods since she came back. She only remembers meeting the Water Demon God, Yin An, when she was thrown into the demonic realm.
"Hey, hey, which demon god do you think is the scariest?" Lin Changying asked Yu Xuelan with eyes lit with curiosity.
"I don't know anything about them since I was always confined in a room."
"Yeah, I wouldn't know much about them now since I was dead for eight years," she laughed in her thoughts.
"I will tell you about them! You can't roam around this world without knowing anything, that's just too scary!" Lin Changying shuddered.
Wu Zhitian stayed silent as usual, yet his ears were attentive to the conversation.
"There's not much to know about them but there's the Water Demon God, Yin An, I heard she mainly stays in the demonic realm and rarely comes out. But there's the Earth Demon God, Bo Fan, most of his lairs are set in forests and he loves eating women, I mean, that's how he got his nickname, Woman Eater. And there's the Sky Demon God, Si Shi."
Lin Changying's face darkened and her expression became gloomier, "The Black Heron, Si Shi, I can never forget his name."
Yu Xuelan furrowed her brows and mumbled, "Si Shi? Wasn't the Sky Demon God that old tyrant?"
"The previous Sky Demon God got replaced around six or seven years ago, I can't remember. But the current one, I'll say he's the scariest Demon God out of the three. He's just truly terrifying!" Changying quivered in fear and horror.
"Got replaced?" Yu Xuelan questioned with puzzlement spread across her face.
"Yeah, Si Shi killed the previous Sky Demon God in just a few strikes and the fight caused the entire sky to fall into darkness and even the earth to quake tremendously! Even Ming'An Village nearly got sucked into the chaos!"
"Si Shi?" Yu Xuelan uttered and held her chin with her hand, trying to dig memories out of her poor brain.
Once a demon was granted the title of 'Demon God', no one would dare overthrow them of their throne, and it was clearly impossible to even defeat a demon god. The fact that the old Sky Demon God has had that title for over three hundred years and was now dethroned by someone else was shocking enough.
"Well, no one has ever seen the Black Heron's face before but I heard he destroyed around five minor sects!"
Yu Xuelan listened carefully to the girl's words. Finally, after all the words Lin Changying had spouted, this topic intrigued her the most.
"But what terrified me the most is that he nearly destroyed a major sect as well. And it just had to be..." Lin Changying's muttered and her voice trailed off as if afraid to say it.
Yu Xuelan's stared in anticipation, eyes beaming in curiosity about this new demon god.
"The HaiShen Yu Sect!"
Coldness travelled through Yu Xuelan's bloodstream and she slowly breathed quieter. Her mind began clouding itself but her shocked expression did not last long.
It was soon replaced by an enigmatic smile.
How amusing.
Lin Changying continued, "And you know, there are rumours saying that the Snow Flower, Yu Xuelan, had become a demon and that the Sky Demon God is actually Yu Xuelan herself!"
Wu Zhitian blinked in confusion and Yu Xuelan choked on her saliva, coughing vigorously.
"No one has seen the Black Heron before since they're always hooded, but there is a high possibility that the Black Heron is actually Yu Xuelan because who else would hold so much resentment towards HaiShen Yu other than the Snow Flower herself?" Changying professed with absolute confidence in her theory.
"Ye, yeah..." Yu Xuelan replied softly, taking a sip of water.
Yu Xuelan was absolutely confused as to why everyone thought she was a Demon God. Even Yu Yang declared that she was the Water Demon God right before her death and now there were rumours saying she was the Sky Demon God! She might as well also be the Earth Demon God at this point!
Lin Changying clapped her hands together and cheered, "Anyways! Enough with the talk of the demons. It's getting too gloomy. I hope nothing happens when you guys arrive at Hufeng City."
Yu Xuelan awkwardly laughed, "Yeah I hope so too."
"I thought they would cancel the festival seeing as how dangerous it is right now," Lin Changying said worriedly.
Yu Xuelan bluffed, "Well, I'm sure they will take extra precautions and strengthen the security."
She well knew that no matter how much security they brought, once a demon god sets their eyes onto an area, it would be doomed to fall under their control.
Wu Zhitian stared at the girl smiling foolishly and felt his heart grow heavy as if ridden with pain and regret.

"Master, I'm so tired," Yu Xuelan groaned.
"Why don't we take a break? There's a small shaded area over there under the trees," Lin Changying suggested.
Wu Zhitian nodded and the girl's eyes immediately brightened up. Suddenly, her body that was supposedly out of energy had regenerated and was running faster than ever to the shaded area. Even with the breeze, the air remained humid and suffocating towards one's lungs.
She collapsed down onto the rock before letting out a sigh of satisfaction and gently lowered her heavy eyelids.
Yu Xuelan listened to her surroundings, it was always a habit every time she closed her eyes.
The girl listened attentively to the birds that flew towards the north as their harsh feathers gently pierced through the stifling haze.
She overheard the heavy rush of a lake that was hundreds of li's away, detecting the water clashing amongst the rocks while droplets splashed onto the grass.
She listened to the varying footsteps of the two figures, one was lighter than the other, not because of the weight in size, but because one walked with steady and relaxed footing while the other one felt like it was cautiously treading into a lion's den.
She observed the breaths and heartbeats of the two.
Abruptly, she lifted her heavy eyelids.
One of them isn't human.
