She didn't comment on her threats on Viki, which seemed to bother her. Say the right thing to win Red's heartdid she think she had a breast? He had that right. To approach her, she needed to look, act, and feel like Diana.

Alfred cleared his throat. "I thought we could do it tomorrow night -"

"I have other plans."

He banged his fingers on the table, his eyes narrowed, and his lips formed a thin line. "I don't want a long date. I need a wife." He spoke abruptly, as if a pack of leaders was used to doing what he wanted.

But with him, he had to walk lightly. He wasn't one of his pack, and he had no intention of ever being. "And I told you I wouldn't choose a mate unless I saw more suitable singles. Mating for life means something to me."

His eyes darkened and he frowned.
