Chapter 269: Fortifying the Base

Back at the outpost, Nyx pulled the blanket over Malachi and Camille while they slept peacefully for the moment. 

Once she kissed them both on the forehead, she turned back to the room filled with Malachi's loved ones. 

"I am... sorry that this will happen to you all. I should have done a better job protecting you."

Naturally, Aubrey shook her head in disproval. 

"Ma... every bad thing that happens to us is not your fault. Nor is it your responsibility to ensure that every aspect of our lives go perfectly smooth." 

"That's right, Miss." Bianca added. "With or without powers, we would never let anything happen to Malachi. You have our word." 

Nyx was touched by the fact that literally everyone in the room seemed to share her same sentiment. 

"I see... then I suppose I don't have anything to worry about, do I?" Nyx smiled so sadly that for a moment no one could believe such vulnerability was coming from a goddess.
