Chapter 24: [Bonus chapter]: Mother’s Day Special

Baroness Night was in a deep, peaceful sleep but was quickly alerted when she heard her bedroom door click open, followed by the voice of her husband and children.

"I still say Dad burnt the eggs!" she heard her son say in a hushed voice.

"My eggs are not burnt!" her husband defended himself.

"They ain't yellow either!" her son argued back.

"Will you two hush! This is supposed to be a happy surprise for Momma!" her sweet daughter admonished her father and brother, and the baroness had to stop herself from smiling.

She sensed a pair of feet making their way over to her and, by the hand shaking her shoulder gently, knew it to be her daughter.

"Wake!" her daughter softly said to her, and the baroness opened her eyes and sat up.

"Surprise! Happy Mother's Day!" her husband and children exclaimed, rolling in a cart. She watched her husband place a tray on the bed and remove a silver lid.
