Chapter 2: Spinning The Wheel of Reincarnation

As Dekel was still attempting to make sense of what was happening, the old man continued speaking. "Congratulations young man, you have fulfilled the requirements to have a chance at a brand new life, and you get to keep your soul!" Dekel, finally getting a grasp over the situation asked questioningly at this mysterious figure, "What do you mean I get to reincarnate and keep my soul, wouldn't I need my soul to reincarnate?" to this, the old man just chuckled and said "Of course not, your soul is simply a vessel for your mind, not your true self. You could reincarnate as a bacteria, yet have you ever seen anything that small display true intelligence or emotions? Growing a soul has many requirements, and few creatures can grow a soul in less than a hundred years, a thousand for those that can not naturally sense the world, one needs to either have a natural aptitude, a treasure of some sort, or to observe the world until a soul naturally forms, and this is only for the beings that have any ability to grow one at all."

"That still doesn't explain to me how the hell it would still be me without my soul", to which the old man happily explained "Well the 3 major attributes of the lower realms are the body, the soul, and the origin. The body is pre-programmed by its genes to react to certain situations and is most commonly used to interact with the physical realm, although not necessary for certain spirits there are many drawbacks to not having a body. The soul is the mind, memories, and personality of the being, which is crucial for adaptive magic and problem solving, without a soul the creature won't be able to correct its flaws, be unable to think, and unless it finds some sort of treasure will be unable to advance past its genetic limit. And the most important of all is the origin, that is what you truly are. No matter what happens to your origin, nothing can destroy it. It is unbreakable and will always return to the river of life to live again as another creature."

"Wait so am I going to be a human again"

"No, your reincarnation this time has requirements it must follow, you will be a being that will never die with the passage of time. You will theoretically be eternal, never suffering from aging of any sort, making it so your power will not wither with time, and grants you a natural resistance against time-based curses."

"So would I be something like you?", asked Dekel, Surprising the old man for a moment until he burst into laughter and responded, "No, I was not born as an immortal, although soon you will be born as one." Then a small red wisp of essence flew into the old man's ear which made the old man shuddered for a second and said with a hurried voice "Well, it was nice meeting someone who will remember me for the first time in eons, but we need to get this show on the road." he said while snapping his fingers, and as he did Dekel immediately appeared next to the old lottery wheel. The lottery wheel had over 1000 different possible choices, each with some mythical being, such as a dragon with 100 eyes, a molten wolf covered in some sort of liquid shadow, a tri-horned whale surrounded by 9 suns, with many more awe-inspiring options to possibly get.

"So I just spin this wheel, and whatever it lands on will be what I reincarnate as?"

"Exactly, so go ahead and spin the wheel of reincarnation".

A second after the old man said that Dekel reached for the wheel to spin it, and the moment he barely touched it, trying to make it land on the dragon, the wheel spun as though he used all his strength, which caused the old man to chuckle once again and say "Oh please child, do you believe you can cheat when it comes to reincarnation? The only thing that can have any influence on it at all is the system but even then it requires some sort of achievement to have been accomplished first and it must be relevant to the achievement". "What is this system thing you are talking about anyway-". Before Dekel could finish speaking while he was still looking at the old man, the wheel had stopped and started glowing in intense, blinding light. Dekel couldn't even see what it landed on before he was devoured by the light. The last thought Dekel had was 'No one will mess with dad when I come back as a beast' as Dekel took the first step to his new life!
