What was it you have done, Lai?" Harrison, her husband asked her. A very embarrassing act. Had he known that their marriage would put a sword through her daughter's heart?
He took in a sharp breath and extinguished, waving his head. A picture of a man ensnared by his desire.
Since the incident, he had tried to reach a decision, every line of thought was like a rope tied by the devil, no ending, but it goes around and around.
Should he divorce her? She has a child with Michael. My son-in-law is the father of my stepdaughter. Should I wait for Nene to decide? A little girl overwhelmed by a situation that overwhelmed her father! What would she say? Had she seen this shameful act once to say that experience would be her best teacher?
"Harrison, stop gnashing teeth, okay? I will go," said Dr Laila.
"Don't be silly! Is that what you tell me?" Harrison said, peeved.
" Harrison. I didn't want Michael to have a stake in your family. "
"Just that?" He grimaced
Her silence was heavy, pressing down her real reason.
"Lai. Just that? No other way? Had you buried what happened in the past, who would have known? " Harrison was bitter for what was now made known was like a broken bottle. The damage is irreparable.
"Michael. O'God! "Laila's fist quivered "Michael does not deserve to live!" she cried.
"Why did you allow him to live all these years, Lai?"
"Michael impregnated your daughter, Harrison!"
"Are they not supposed to?" asked Harrison.
"Barbara!Barbara!"
Tears rolled down.
"What do you mean?"
Seeing that repeating what she said would be unbearable to Harrison,
she walked up and flopped on the bed, wailed, wailed, wailed.
"Repeat what you said." Harrison sat on the bed. "Lai repeat what you said."
"What do you want me to repeat? You heard me. Harrison, you heard me!"
"She is not my daughter," said Harrison.
The denial turned a key in her and she jumped. To say she flayed up was an understatement.
How she gripped Harrison's shoulders, quaking him, she would have devoured him.
"Don't get physical, okay?" Harrison stopped her, forced himself off, and sat up, walking away, said to nobody in particular " When Nene recovers she will decide the way forward."
"Barbara is daughter, Harrison !" Dr Laila stormed out of the bed before he went out.
Harrison turned." I have not looked at the result of the DNA. "
"You can't run away from it, Harrison."
Dr Laila widened her eyes at the door, in front of Harrison and knotted him at the neck.
Harrison Manuel smirked.
The anger of a woman who felt scorned, so it is but the truth is bitter.
For shifting her blame, Harrison did not want to step down
" Nene will decide if she needs a step-sister. I am not standing for her but her relationship with Michael will decide." he said with finality.
"Harrison. There is no vacancy for Michael here. I don't want to say all the damage Michael has done"
"Say it all Lai. For me to know what to do."
"Harrison"
"I am hearing."
"My relationship with Michael was a passing event. It was not an affair. But him knowing he has a daughter with me and went ahead to date Barbara. No!"
"Are you and your daughter so low as this?"
" Harrison. Don't insult me. If you were not careless, would I have been lonely? I am divorcing you. But your daughter remains your daughter."
A call came for Harrison Manuel. It was from his sister-in-law, Agnes.
" Nene is back."
Hearing that, Harrison Manuel came down, hurried to Heiress Angela's apartment.
About two hours ago, he was with her.
He did not ask her anything and he stopped her saying anything until she recovered.
Her peace was his concern. The only child, knowing that she needs a brother, an heir to represent her father when he passes to the beyond, she waited for the man with whom her heart believed she would accomplish her life desire. An adopted son-in-law.
And a bad wife, a whore, a stepmother cut her dream short.
Harrison Manuel said it was his fault. She exempted him. " No, Dad. Would you stay alone? It was her fault" she told Harrison.
Her faults became many with Barbara becoming pregnant. Harrison's fault loomed large by being the father of Barbara. A secret his late wife did not know.
Now, she would know it, coupled with the saddest that happened. Mehn. It is too much.
If it were only that she discovered or was told that Barbara was her stepsister, no much qualm, men are not woods.
"Where is Michael?" she asked.
" He is still locked," they told her.
"Where is Dr Laila?"
" She is in their apartment."
"Bring Michael and call her."
