Chapter 18: Chapter Eighteen:Dr. Laila vows to stop the wedding

"Michael!" Dr. Laila shook, she was trembling and vibrated and felt she could fly over the miles and jump down into the hotel and compress Michael beyond recognition.

The heat in her could not let her speak.

"Give the phone to her!" she barked at Michael and Michael passed the phone over to Barbara, fear, rode his face.

He has fucked mother and daughter which is a declaration of war to either the mother or the daughter or both.

He has to then grow up and stop the timidity he is known with.

"You see that guy," to Barbara, Dr. Laila fumed," I am sorry to tell you, he is the father of Pretty. Give him the phone!" Her anger escalated.

"Michael! That wedding will not work. You, for telling me a lie!"

Michael passed the phone over to Barbara.

"Mom. This is embarrassing. Michael!" Barbara was bugged, "... Mom, leave this for me," she said.

"No! " Dr. Laila insisted. "I know how to skin a cat.

Hearing them, Michael broke out, " Once a man dies!"

He bolted and entered the road.

He lodged somewhere, 4:30 am sharp, he was on his way to the castle.

It was about to rain, he damned it.

At the castle entrance, the rain started.

He still damned it. As he said, it is once a man dies.

Happy his bag is waterproofed inside. Heiress's credit card, his phone, and his green card are all safe.

In the rain, he was sure a figure through a window of the castle had seen him.

The figure drew a pair of white lace blinds behind the glass of the window together.

He did not move about in the castle to know who owned the window. Sure, it was not Heiress, not her Dad.

"Nene." Agnes mentioned Heiress's other name," If Michael comes back today or tomorrow," she told her," and did not come here straight, and he comes any other time and you receive him, I will pack and go!" she said, as she came for morning devotion and saw Heiress Angela in a pensive mood.

"Aunty, he is my husband whether he came here first or not" Heiress Angela replied to her.

She waved her head. Obstinate Niece. Whatever she saw in this guy, nobody knows.

As she made for the window waiting for her face to relax, she saw the butler under an umbrella approaching.

At the same time, Magdalene came to the door. She went to let her in and the butler was coming to Heiress's apartment.

He saw her at the entrance and stopped for Magdalene to be attended to first.

Magdalene furled her umbrella and leaned it on the wall in the foyer. She told Agnes she came to join in the devotion. Yesterday, she did. The devotion started when Agnes arrived.

Harrison and Dr. Laila joined but Harrison has not been active.

"Michael is at the gate, Ma." The butler bowed slightly and said," Michael is at the gate."

Going back, he jiggled his fist.

He was fortunate it was not Heiress Angela to whom he gave the message in person.

But if the message is relayed to her, in her reflection, she may cross-examine to know who saw Michael, and who passed the message to her sister before her sister passed the message to her.

From there, she could reason: So, they know what was going on and conclude the messenger has gossiped

" Oh. God help me. Mr. Ajas, I don't know what is happening and I have a principal. I don't talk about Heiress." prayed the Butler

Agnes walked up to the devotion place and told Heiress Angela, " Michael is at the gate."

"Is that your devotion?" she asked her strongly.

"As it is raining..." said Agnes.

"And so?" she asked.

"Okay, let us finish." Magdalene chipped in raised their hand, and said," God thank you o."

" God thank you on what?" she asked her.

Magdalena cursed herself.

After the devotion, Agnes eyed Magdalene.

She hurried to the gate under her umbrella and returning, Michael was with her.

Magdalene seemed to be briefing Michael.

He was attentive and Magdalene's lips were moving.

There was tension. In drenched clothes, Michael knelt on two knees, his face down on Heiress's legs, his arms crossed over to his head, locked at his forehead.

Heiress firmed her tiny lips tighter than ever.

The drench from Michael's body wetted her night dress and permeated her flesh.

To speak, she did not, to spit, she did not.

Bubbles of tears dropped from her eyes as she squinted.

"Forgive him, Nene."

"Forgive, Heiress. It is a lesson. Without sin, there is no forgiveness. "

"Give us a chance!" The heiress's voice was like a warning, or the goddess had spoken

The people around deserted. Next may be a punishment to the last to leave.

Michael surprisingly, in that drench, carried her in his arms out of the devotion place, going to her room, her hands hanging down from her shoulders, her long weave-on too, flowing downward from her head. Her face was like an embalmed face of a mermaid.

Michael laid her in the seat and knelt again. "I am sorry for the embarrassment I have caused you. You, and our family. Forgive me. One thing I am happy about is that America has opened my mind, and my eyes, and where you belong, I will belong, in death, in life....my baby. How is my baby?"

After a while, she inhaled and exhaled. her eyes automatically opened.

There was silence, eery and pregnant. Go or stay depends on her now. Stay. People's lives will turn glorious.

But she gripped her tiny lips and tears bubbled out from the eyes she was squinting.

"I am sorry." Michael still on his knees, coupled his palms.

Nod. Nod. " Go and bathe." Michael heard her say." Go to your room." She directed him as he got up to his feet.

She called her Dad and told him to come for breakfast at 7:30

She called Mr. Emerson and told him she would be at the Gym by 9: 00 a.m

The butler set the table. It was breakfast of various dishes. Harrison Manuel joked." Is Michael a prodigal so that all these dishes are prepared?''

" Exactly what I was about to ask." Agnes chipped in.

Heiress Angela's face was frozen from the blank it was before.

"Yes. I was." Michael smiled." But with a difference. I am enlightened now for where my wife is, there I will be... "

As he talked, Heiress Angela was like she was not present.

A reserved girl, born in wealth, not familiar with talking talking.

Today, she will have a Zoom meeting with the directors of the board of the Belfast shipyard for work to resume on the cruiser. Next, on the agenda for her wedding, Michael is to become a board member of her mother's foundation which is the highest shareholder in Rico Bank.

This chairperson of Rico Bank who she is, was what Michael would have been if he had not acted the way he did.

It was for his prestige she wanted it. And it will materialize during the Annual General Meeting.

But in the next two days, one in the itinerary she will unfold was to go to the registry.

She left the table to go for gyming as Dr. Lisa and Mrs. Douglas arrived.

" Excuse me! Excuse!" Mrs. Douglas was stopping her. " Heiress, who is that? Michael!" she called Michael walking away with Heiress.

"Aunty!" Michael who turned, was bewildered, excused himself and rushed back toward Mrs Douglas and she was rushing to him, mouth open, eyes staring to the widest.

Who again?

" Hope she would not be another Dr. Laila?"
