Chapter 11: Pregnant

"Please don't do this Jake," Selene pleaded stranded on what to do next.

" You should have thought of that before opening your legs for another man in my club," he shouted at her.

Lilian smirked at Selene's devastation. She couldn't allow that stupid man Carlos, the bartender to rot in jail. Lilian grinned at her success. Her plan would surely work out.

"Okay, but I have something important to tell you before I leave," Selene said feeling defeated. But at least he had a right to know what was his before it disappeared. Before he threw her out. She held her stomach cautiously breathing in ready to speak out what she didn't know if it would be her saving grace.

" I am your childhood love Jake, Lilian's just an imposter," she said, pulling the ring necklace from Lilian's neck.

Selene felt she had stooped to low to keep Jake, but she had to do what had to be done.

"You are really shameless, to think you would stoop too low to take what is your sister's!" Jake said. He was glad that Lilian had helped him know her true colors.

"I am not lying, this is the necklace you left for me when we were twelve, Lilian took it from my room," Selene desperately tried to convince him.

"Shut up, you liar!" Lilian shrieked at her pointing her finger at her.

"I want you out this instant and return Lilian's necklace that's my family heirloom, and it belongs to the woman I value most and that's her," Jake said, his voice so low in fury.

Selene felt dizzy, everything seemed blurred around her. She headed out to the door, her steps staggering. She had never felt that empty inside. Just when everything had begun to look good for her.

Jake looked at her figure disappearing, he felt his fury sink in for a minute. He had never seen a woman so shameless yet so desperately to prove herself. Was he wrong in thinking of her as a cheat?

He pushed that thought back, compressing the feeling of pity that tagged at his heart.

But Jake couldn't understand how she knew about the necklace about the age at which he had left the necklace to Lene.

At Charlotte's place, it's been a week since Selene called her to pick her up from the mansion. She explained everything to her best friend. Charlotte couldn't watch her friend look like this, it was a painful sight.

"Babe you need to get out there, you've sulking for a whole week, is that man really worth it?" Charlotte asked, looking at her friend who was stuffing ice cream in her mouth.

"Leave me alone," Selene said, scoping more ice cream. This was all she could do. She had been feeling sick, but she suspected it's the stress.

"No babe we must go out today please, you can't just stress all day, do you want your life to become nothing?" Charlotte asked, taking the ice cream from her.

Selene knew her friend was right, the whole of Manhattan had to know her pain.

She smiled, "we are going to drink the whole night and shout out that mean man Charr."

She got up from the sofa jumping up, but her legs seemed to want the opposite as she felt herself get light and she blacked out.

The beeping sound again, she couldn't believe her luck, within a short span of few months she's been finding herself in the hospital.

Selene looked to the side only to see Charlotte sleeping soundly, holding her hand.

"Char, wake up, why am I here?" Selene asked her friend who seemed to get excited on seeing her awake.

"Babe don't move I am getting the doctor," Charlotte said storming out of the room.

"Miss you've been unconscious for five hours and your results show high levels of stress," the doctor said checking her motor response.

"Doctor what's wrong with her?" Charlotte asked in a panic.

"Well nothing is wrong but soon if the stress continues everything will be wrong, especially in your condition," the doctor explained making Selene look at him surprised.

"What's wrong with me? Am I critically sick?" Selene asked worried.

The doctor chuckled at her panicky question. "No no you are not sick miss, congratulations you are four weeks pregnant," the doctor announced bluntly.

Selene choked on saliva as she tried to talk. Charlotte's eyes widened as she turned speechless.

"What!" Selene demanded.

"Yes, you are pregnant and as I was saying so far the babies look okay, but you have to avoid stress at all cost Miss," the doctor said not quite understand the shock on Selene's face.

Someone gasped at the doorway making them turn towards the door.

"Doctor are you sure she's pregnant?" Mr. Rogers voice came through the door.

"Dad what are you doing here?" Selene asked surprised. He had forced her to get married, and now he wanted to pretend like he cared.

The doctor excused himself heading out of the room.

"So cheating wasn't enough Selene you went ahead to have a bastard with that loser of a lover you have?" Mr. Rogers asked looking at her in disgust.

"What are you talking about?" Selene asked hurt at her father's accusations.

"Cut the crap, your sister already told us everything, you should be grateful Jackson is a gentleman he didn't divorce you yet, but now he surely will !" He spat his painful words at her.

"With all due respect Sir, get out if this room," Charlotte ordered having had enough if the crap he was saying. How could someone's father be that cruel?

"What did you say?" Mr. Rogers asked his anger redirected at Charlotte.

"You heard her get out of this room, and if my memory serves me clear you threw me out too so you are no better!" Selene practically screamed at him sobbing.

"You are so shameless Selene, I thought you were better than your mother," he stated accusingly.

"Whatever do you mean!" Selene asked in anger.

Machines started beeping in the room. Her blood pressure seemed to be rising. The doctor came rushing in, panic wore everybody's face. Mr. Rogers had never felt that scared he felt ashamed as he was being escorted out of the room.

"If anything happens to her, it's in you!" Charlotte shouted at him pacing around the pathway outside Selene's room.

Hours passed, finally the doctor let her in to see Selene. Charlotte had made sure to send away Selene's father.

"Are you okay sweetie?" Charlotte asked kissing her cheek. "Am fine Charr," Selene responded weakly. She felt too tired to speak.

"The doctor agreed to discharge you only if you avoid stress and are monitored," Charlotte said worriedly.

"Don't sorry Charr, I won't stress, after all I have two lovelies to think about," Selene smiled sadly patting her stomach.

Months passed with checkups and everything. There was no word from Jake and Selene felt glad since she had started showing. Her first trimester was almost over, which meant her babies delicate phase was coming to an end. Charlotte had not left her side always pampering her with everything she wanted.

"Char I've been thinking, I want to disappear and rebuild my life before I start showing and raise questions," Selene suggested wanting to hear her friend's opinion.

"I think that's a good idea and don't sorry whatever you settle for am always here to help you until you become stable enough," Charlotte said knowing that was all she could do for Selene. She had seen her struggle emotionally every time she came across pictures of Jake and Lilian.

The doorbell rang as Charlotte was seeping her tea in the living room, it seemed so quiet having been used to Selene chatter whenever she was in the mood.

"What are you doing here? " Charlotte asked surprised at seeing Jake at her doorstep and drunk.

"I came to see Selene, I've been thinking, and I want us to talk," he stated his speech slurred.

Without waiting for an answer he pushed the door entering inside the house.

"Selene! Selene! " He shouted leaving Charlotte dumbfounded at the door.
