Chapter 39: Foolishness ( 1 )

Something happened to Orfarion's criminal influences.

Two 'ghosts' were subjugating group after group, cell after cell.

No one knew their appearances or their names.

All they knew was that they suddenly appear in front of the bosses.

As they tossed a Scroll written 'Soul Slavement Scroll' on it with the Uncrowned King as the contractee, the bosses immediately knew what was going on.

Surrender... or Die.

That was it.

...

Hot sunlight shone on the road, two small children covered in silk cloak slowly.

Asa and Iphislia.

After splitting up with Miraak at the Royal's Palace Front gate, they started to wonder what to do.

Glancing at each other, they smiled.

"... Let's do it?" Asa asked seriously to Iphislia who was walking alongside her.

"... Let's do it," Iphislia responded seriously as they changed direction.

To the south.

Although Miraak said to wait for him, they wanted to surprise him by subjugating them with only them.

After subjugating the small groups of the west and east, they finally moved to the final group.

The gigantic group of criminals on the city's south.

With dozens of criminals, they were the biggest group in the city.

After 'asking' the location of their hideout from different bosses, they finally found it.

Just as they were about to arrive at their destination, their bodies slowly started to disappear.

Like a whisper in the wind.

...

There were four guards in front of the hideout's gate.

"Fuck. I seriously need some release." One of the guards said rudely as he stretched his neck.

"... Shut up, dude. At least you did it yesterday with that woman... What was her name again?... Anyway, you're lucky. The last time I did it was months ago." Another guard responded sighing.

As the other two guards were shaking their heads as they heard their conversation, before they could react, four arrows pierced the wind and penetrated their skull.

Blood squirted everywhere as their bodies collapsed on the ground like potato bags.

Footsteps could be heard as Asa and Iphislia appeared.

As they walked to the gate, reddish runes started to appear around their hands as a spell appeared.

Opening the gate, they smirked nodding at each other as they launched the spell to the other side of the gate.

Impacting, the spells exploded in a reddish fog.

"... Wh-" A criminal was about to shout in surprise before the reddish fog entered his nose.

Almost instantly, the criminal's veins started to pulse more and more violently.

His eyes started to redden in rage.

Finally, he started to grind his teeth as he tightened his hand around his one-handed ax.

Frenzy, an Adept-level Illusion spell.

The spell impacted on 10 different criminals.

Soon, they started to glare at each other.

From glaring to brawling.

From brawling to slashing.

Finally, from slashing to killing.

"... What the fuck is going on!?" One of the criminals who wasn't infected shouted in surprise seeing his comrades killing each other.

"Magic! Someone used a spell!!" Another one shouted as he saw his comrades' reddish eyes.

Before they could report to their bosses, a shadow passed through, slashing their throat as blood squirted on the wind.

1, 2, 5, 10, and finally 20 criminals died by a slashing ghost.

Blood painted the icy ground as two shadows took the form of two children.

Of course, they were Asa and Iphislia.

"... This is easier than I first thought," Iphislia said to Asa, sighing.

Glancing at her, with blood still fresh on her blades, Asa responded, "... Let's go."

Walking to the main building and entering its main door, they saw stairs, leading toward the underground of Orfarion.

"... Looks like this building is nothing more than a husk to the criminal's group," Asa commented to Iphislia, who was next to her already ready to kill, as her hands tightened around her bloody daggers.

"It doesn't matter," Iphislia responded grinning as she immediately started to walk down the stairs.

After some minutes, they finally left the stairs.

Tilting her head, Asa stared in surprise at the sign in front of them.

'First Floor'.

'Are you kidding? A criminal's group as a base of more than 1 floor underground a major city of an Empire?' Asa thought surprised.

Shooking her head, they continued walking.

From bedrooms, kitchens to armories and training camps, the floor had full equipment.

Strangely, there was no one present on the floor.

Like a cursed place, the first floor was empty of any sign of life.

Continuing walking, they saw, again, more stairs toward even more underground.

"... I have a bad feeling about this," Iphislia said to Asa, staring at the endless abyss beyond the visible stairs.

Tightening her hands around her bow, Asa responded, "I'm feeling it too... Let's go back."

Turning around, they started to go back.

But, something was extremely strange.

From seconds to minutes, minutes to hours, no matter how much time they walked, no matter the speed they walked, no matter the direction they walked. no matter what, in the end, they saw the same thing every time.

More stairs toward even more underground.

"... Illusion Magic,.. And this level... Master-level Illusion Magic..." Asa said seriously to Iphislia.

"Looks like we entered a trap," Iphislia commented sighing.

Before they could continue, the ground, the ceiling, the walls, everything started to distort, as if reality was being rewritten.

Soon, they saw themselves in a gigantic black room.

The ceiling had detailed white runes.

Looking closely, they found someone staring at them.

Wearing her reddish dress detailed by beautiful whitish details and her reddish gloves, the woman's pure reddish lips slowly formed a distorted ice-cold smile as she stared at the duo.

Glancing at their necklaces, they saw it glowing in a reddish pulse.
