Chapter 31: Through the storm

Nessa's voice cracked as she called out, "Kaleb!", but it was no use.

Her words were swallowed by the swirling maelstrom of mana, the air buzzing so violently it seemed to reverberate through her bones.

"Kaleb! Can you hear me?" she called out again, with her arm raised, shielding her face as she tried to push forward.

But every step felt like wading through a roaring river. The storm raged on, and Kaleb's screams echoed through the chaos, sending shivers down her spine.

Victor arrived, skidding to a stop as his eyes darted between the raging mana and Nessa.

"What the hell is going on? Where's the kid?" he asked; without a word, Nessa pointed to the center of the raging storm.

Cassie arrived shortly after Victor, her face pale and eyes wide.

Kaleb's agonizing cries cut through the air again, a sound so raw it made Cassie flinch.
