Chapter 4: CHAPTER 4

"Hi, you must be Khaleesi Snow?"

Shaking the landlady's hand, Khaleesi replies, "Yes, it's a pleasure to meet you too."

"It's good to see you in person. You're here for the viewing, I presume?"

"Yes ma'am!"

"Excellent!" Stepping to the elevator, the landlady taps the elevator's button. "Let me show you to your new place."

The girls follow the woman to the fifth floor. Making a left, they end up in front of a door that is partially opened.

"This is a new building?" Nia looks around, admiring how neat and fresh the paint and tile is.

"Yes, we are a new building." Opening the door further, she lets the girls in.

Khaleesi's eyes glisten, falling in love with the beauty of the complex. "The pictures don't even compare to how amazing this apartment looks…" She hurries to the first bedroom on the side where the kitchen is. Just as she suspected, it was beyond her expectations. Excitedly she runs over to the bathroom. It was beautiful.

"Are you liking what you see?" The landlady questions.

"Am I liking it? I love it!" Khaleesi beams.

"Perfect! When would you like to start moving in, then?"

"Well," The redhead glances at Nia. "I don't wanna just up and leave Felix like that. I did want to spend some time with him before I move in."

"Girl, we need to get you moved in, ASAP. Forget about living with Felix."

"Nia." Khaleesi pouts. "I wanna spend more time with him!"

"And trust me, you will. Or at least let's start putting some furniture in here to bring more life to this place."

Shrugging, Khaleesi agrees. "We can definitely do that."

"So you're going to be my roommate."

Nia and Khaleesi's eyes averts to the bedroom on the opposite side of the apartment, gaping at a young man who was dressed in a black shirt and slacks. His haircut looked fresh and his skin was pale. A tall figure with muscles, he was definitely a sight for sore eyes.

Khaleesi blushes and turns away.

"Oh my," The landlady gasps. "I've totally forgotten that you were in here!"

"What's he doing in here?!" Nia furrows an eyebrow at the man.

"And did he just ask if I'm his roommate?" Khaleesi adds

"Yes," The landlady pushes her glasses to her nose. "You do have a roommate. Khaleesi, I would love for you to meet Mr. Kim."

"Please, call me Namjoon."

"W-Wait…" Khaleesi begins to tremble. "I didn't know I was going to have a have a roommate. I thought I had the entire place to myself!"

"Perhaps you may have forgotten. But my secretary spoke to you over the phone explaining that the apartment is $1,000. But you'd only have to pay $500 because you will be sharing the space."

"Oh…" Khaleesi mumbles to herself. "…that explains the $500."

Namjoon grins at Khaleesi. "Sorry for the inconvenience."

"No, no…you're good."

"No he's not." Nia jumps in. "What's your decision, Khaleesi?"

"Well," Meditating for a bit, Khaleesi exhales.

"Would you like to check out another apartment?" The lady suggests.

"Well…"

"Just note that the price will be either $1,000 or more if you choose to keep an apartment for yourself."

"I can't really afford to spend $1,000 a month." Turning to her best friend, Khaleesi asks, "What do you think, Nia?"

Nia seemed to be meditating very hard. Eyeing Namjoon, her eyes would switch back and forth to Khaleesi.

"I think having a roommate would be cool." Khaleesi comments. "But I have a boyfriend. I don't think Felix would be happy to hear I moved on with another man."

"If you're scared that I'll make a move on you, best believe that I won't. I'm gay."

Nia and Khaleesi stare at Namjoon like two goldfish.

"Problem solved!" The landlady claps her hands together.

"I guess…you should be fine, then?" Nia's face turned questionably to Khaleesi.

"I don't know, Nia…" Leaning into her, she whispers, "Gay or not, he's still a man."

"You're a bit sexist, aren't you?" Namjoon projects. "My apologies for having a penis."

"N-No, it's not that!" Khaleesi cries. "Come on, you should understand! Imagine if your girlfriend decided to move in with another man. Whether he's into other men or not—all you're going to think about is the fact that she's living with another man."

Namjoon furrows an eyebrow. "I have a boyfriend."

"Yeah, this guy is weird." Nia mutters. "But, he seems to be okay, I guess."

"Oh, Felix is going to be so upset at me…"

"He'll be fine." Patting her back, Nia grins. "If anything, Keanu and I will talk to him."

"So, are we all set?" The landlady glances at both Khaleesi and Namjoon.

"I guess…" Khaleesi shrugs with obvious discontent.

"Excellent! I will give you the papers to officially sign you off as a tenant living here. Give me a few minutes."

The lady leaves the room, leaving the three to themselves.

Khaleesi scratches the back of her head, slightly peeved. Nia catches on to Khaleesi's attitude and tries to console her.

"So, where are you guys from?" Namjoon questions.

"South Carolina." Nia replies.

"Wow, really?" The change in Namjoon's pitch alerts Khaleesi.

It's evident that he has an accent. However, his English was too good. "I'm sorry, where are you from?"

Namjoon smirks. "Where do you think I'm from?"

The girls look at each other. Nia shakes her head. "I can't say. I only know about the Chinese and Japanese."

Pointing to Khaleesi, Namjoon asks for her guess.

"Um…possibly Korean?"

Namjoon smiles more genuinely. "Correct."

"Oh right, right…" Nia squints as though she's trying to process this. "…how could I forget? Khaleesi definitely has a thing for them."

"Hey!" Khaleesi jabs Nia, earning a squeak out of the woman.

Namjoon cackles. "Oh, that means we should absolutely get along with no issues."

"Exactly." Nia folds her arms. "Enjoy your new lover."

"Woah, woah—" Khaleesi gawks. "Let's not take it that far!"

"Well, I'm gonna get back to setting up my room. Oh—sorry I chose a room before you came. This room's setup supports my hobby, so I had to call dibs."

"Ah, you're good. I'm actually satisfied with the room, so thank you for calling dibs." Khaleesi jokes.

Namjoon chuckles before waving goodbye. "Welp, I'm gonna get back to it. Gotta finish setting up my room. Talk to you later."

"Okay!"

After receiving the paperwork from the landlady, the women left the complex, almost hysterical by what they experienced.

"I cannot believe you had no clue that you had a roommate—let alone it's a man!"

"Felix is going to kill me!" Khaleesi groans and she slips gloomingly into the passenger seat.

Fixing her rearview mirror Nia advises, "Just don't tell him anything as of yet. At least not today. He's already pissed off that you're abandoning him."

"I am not abandoning him, Nia!" Khaleesi was visibly upset. "I just reunited with Felix after a long two years of staying back home. I miss him, his personality, his touch…everything."

Nia wanted to crack a joke, but Khaleesi's mood suppressed Nia's humor. She remains quiet, not wanting to drag down the mood any further.

Reaching Felix's apartment, Nia exhales. "Khaleesi, before you go,"

"Yeah, what's up?"

"You don't have to take my word for it, but I think you having your own place is wise."

"You really think so?"

"Yeah," Nia looks at her.

Khaleesi saw the seriousness in her eyes. "In New York, it's all about hustling and always moving forward. You getting your own place is a start. And I think it's healthier that way. You and Felix can always see each other, but still have your space."

"You really believe that?"

"Yeah."

Raising an eyebrow, the redhead queries, "And what about you and Keanu? You still haven't told me what's going on with that."

Chortling, Nia repeats, "Me and Keanu? What about us?"

"You know what I'm asking!" Khaleesi huffs. "Do you two live together?"

"Well, sort of, yes," Nia admits. "But unlike you and Felix, Keanu and I are more stabilized in not only our relationship, but our finances. We're actually already in the process of planning our wedding."

"Wait—he proposed to you?!"

"Not yet. But I believe he is going to in the future. We're just getting things together."

"Wow, I hope everything goes well!"

"Thanks, Kiki." Nia pauses before continuing. "Think about what I said, please, Khaleesi?"

"…yeah, I will. Thanks Nia."

Khaleesi returns to Felix's apartment, knocking on the door. Not hearing any responses, she calls him.

"Hello? Babe? I'm home."

"Sorry I was in the bathroom, I'm coming." Felix rushes to the door, opening it.

"Thanks, babe."

Khaleesi was so tired after today, she wanted to go to sleep.

Felix clears his throat. "So, how did the viewing go?"

"Great, actually." Khaleesi heaves a sigh. "I got the paperwork from the landlady. I can start moving in immediately."

"That's nice."

Khaleesi glances at Felix, who had an obvious look of disappointment. She closes her eyes and breathes in. "Felix…"

"I can't believe you."

"W-What?"

"You just got here…and already you're leaving."

"I'm not leaving, yet, Fifi."

Felix frowns.

Taking his hands, Khaleesi smiles. "I'm planning to stay here for a while longer. I'm just going to buy furniture little by little to fill my space."

"But why can't you just stay here? Buy furniture for this apartment! There's plenty of space for your touch!"

Khaleesi chuckles, pulling Felix into the bedroom. "True, but, baby, I've never had a chance to experience living independently! All I've known is living and relying on my family. And you are a part of my family. Well—future family—when we officially seal the deal."

"There's nothing wrong with being dependent, Khaleesi. We can depend on each other!"

"We can also depend on each other and not live together, babe."

Angrily, Felix pulls away from Khaleesi and snaps. "Why is it that when I want to be closer to you, you always have to go and do something that pushes us further away from each other?"

Confused, Khaleesi did a double take. "What?"

"All I want is to be as close as possible with you, and yet we continuously go through these pits where you move further away from me when I want to be closer to you! I haven't seen you in two years! I haven't had a chance to enjoy seeing you in person, holding you and showing you how much I miss you. You just came yesterday, and you've already made a decision to live on your own when you can just live here with me!"

"Felix, I said I'm not leaving just yet. We still have plenty of time to see each other. Besides, aren't you working? I won't see you mostly until night time. I can always visit you on your days off, spend nights when possible and many other things—"

"It's not the same."

Khaleesi groans.

"Whatever. It's your decision." Felix leaves his room and goes to the living room.
