Chapter 29: Chapter 29 "Worried Family, Stable Condition"

Beep... Beep... Beep...

The sound of machinery filled the hospital room, echoing off the walls. A 19-year-old boy lay on a bed, his body connected to a ventilator, his breathing labored. His hands and legs were immobilized by plaster casts. A middle-aged woman sat by his side, her eyes filled with tears. A nurse moved around the room, tending to the boy's needs.

"How is he?" Veer anxiously inquired, approaching a nurse nearby.

The nurse turned to face Veer, her expression filled with compassion. "His condition is stable, and his body is responding well to the nutrients we're providing. We don't anticipate any significant harm to his body in any case."

Veer let out a sigh of relief. "Thank you," he said sincerely.

The nurse nodded and then addressed Veer once more. "Will you be taking a walk? I'm afraid only one person can go at a time to avoid overcrowding."

Veer's face dropped slightly, but he quickly composed himself. "I apologize. It will only take a few minutes, I promise."

The nurse understood his concern. "Of course, take your time. Just remember to be mindful of the other patients."

Veer nodded gratefully and made his way towards the boy's bedside, taking a seat beside the woman. They held each other's hands tightly, finding solace in their shared worry and hope for the boy's recovery.

Hearing Veer's voice, the woman who had been shedding tears moments ago fell silent and turned her gaze towards him. Veer, in return, looked at the woman and asked, "How are you, aunty?"

Veer's aunt, overcome with emotions, struggled to find her words. "Veer, how are you? Lucky told me that you've become a warrior, but instead of going to school, you chose to be a freelance warrior. Are you doing well now, Veer?" she asked, her voice filled with concern.

Veer locked eyes with his aunt, but no words escaped his lips. Instead, he shifted his gaze towards Lucky, feeling a surge of anger building within him. The sight of Lucky ignited a fiery rage, and his eyes started turning red.

Just then, a hand gently rested on Veer's shoulders, calming his rising anger. "Veer, calm down. There's no need to act out of anger. Right now, our priority is Lucky's treatment," said Lucky's father in a worried voice.

Veer turned to face his uncle and found solace in his words. The anger slowly subsided within him, replaced by a renewed sense of focus. Veer asked his uncle, "How long will it take for Lucky to regain consciousness?"

The room fell into a momentary silence as the weight of uncertainty lingered in the air. Lucky's father took a deep breath before responding, "We're not certain, Veer. The doctors are doing everything they can, but we'll have to be patient and hope for the best."

Veer nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. He turned his attention back to Lucky, his determination shining through his eyes. "We won't give up, uncle. We'll stay strong for Lucky. He's going to wake up, and we'll be there for him every step of the way," Veer declared with conviction.

The doctor informed us that there's no definitive timeline for Lucky's recovery. It could happen within a day, a week, a month, a year—or he might never regain consciousness," Lucky's father explained, his voice filled with a mix of hope and uncertainty.

Veer listened attentively and then requested Lucky's father to recount the events leading up to the accident, starting from the beginning.

Lucky's father looked at Veer and began to share the details. "As usual, Lucky went for his jog at 5 in the morning and returned around 6:30. But that day, as he was standing up after being hit by a car, the driver panicked and fled the scene, leaving the car behind. In a sudden impulse, Lucky chased after the driver. However, when he was about five meters away from the car, it suddenly exploded."

"Lucky miraculously survived the explosion, but debris from the car struck his body, and the shockwave slammed him against a nearby wall," Lucky's father continued, his voice trembling with the weight of the memory. "At 8 in the morning, I received a call from a police officer who informed me that someone had attempted to kill my son. They told me that Lucky was at City Center Hospital and urged me to come as soon as possible."

He paused for a moment, reflecting on the shocking turn of events. "At that moment, I was gripped with a deep fear, realizing that someone had targeted my son—a young man from a middle-class family who was pursuing his studies at a school run by battle mages."

Veer, absorbing the information, suddenly interjected, "Uncle, did Lucky ever mention any girl or new friends he made at school?"

Lucky's father pondered the question, his brow furrowing with concern. "Now that you mention it, Veer, Lucky did never mention a girl he had become friends with at school. However, I don't know much more about any other new friends he may have made."

The room fell into a thoughtful silence as they considered the significance of Lucky's friendships and the possible motives behind the attempt on his life.

Lucky's father grew increasingly concerned at Veer's sudden mention of a girl and questioned, "Why are you suddenly asking about a girl? Has some girl attempted to harm my son?"

Veer took a deep breath, trying to gather his thoughts before responding. "Uncle, there's something I need to tell you. Lucky is in love with a girl, and it's possible that she has feelings for him too. However, her family is no ordinary family. She belongs to the Aubroe family, one of the four prominent families in this city. I don't know what has transpired between them or if it's related to the incident, but once Lucky recovers, I'll find out the truth about their relationship."

Lucky's father's voice trembled with shock as he processed Veer's words. "What are you saying, Veer? Our son, who comes from a humble background, loving the daughter of a wealthy family like theirs? How is that even possible?"
