Ever so slowly, I turned.

There he stood, dressed in gray slacks, a black dress shirt, and a gray vest that defined his muscular yet lean build. I licked my lips before I could stop myself. He had a black cast that ran from his toes to his knee and crutches supported him, but he looked sexy as hell all the same. He was a little thinner than when I'd met him, but I kind of liked the way it defined his jawline and cheekbones more. His face was deathly serious, but there was a spark in his eyes as he stared at me.

Everything else faded away as I faced Chance Belgarde. He was everything I hadn't known I wanted and exactly what I needed.

And he didn't want me.

"You came," I whispered, unable to speak any louder. My heart hammered in my chest, and my skin grew tingly.

"I came," he said, his eyes scanning me from head to toe, then back again. "You look beautiful."
