Chapter 56: Confrontation

The thought of rushing in and shooting repetitive bolts of electricity and destroying the creature. She probably should have, but something prompted her to satisfy her curiosity. If it was completely destroyed, there would be some unanswered questions.

“I have to admit that I had no idea you existed.”

The creature shook slightly. “I was not meant to be. Only the death of myself would give me birth. How did I die? Who did it?”

Callie felt a moment of panic. She couldn’t very well tell it that she was the cause, that the prodigy had turned on the one who helped to create her power and had hoped to control it. She couldn’t tell it the complete truth or even a small portion of it. Never one to be good at spin, she found herself in the middle of an ocean where it was needed for survival.

“Resistance was more than you had bargained for.” That wasn’t a lie.
