Tom’s horse did not fail instead it reached its destination on time. She pulled on his reins to stop. Her heart dropped; her body almost gone cold. There was no one in the place no horse or even the carriage. The ground had the dead around them both friend and foe alike. Her eyes searched for a sign of the captain or commander Tristan’s company. There was none visible.
‘Was he taken?’ her head turned to look for signs.
‘Where is commander Tristan? Wasn’t he supposed to join here?’ She felt the fear grow in her heart.
Rosa turned the horse and moved to check the entrance. There were foot tracks. She pulled on the reins again to make the horse keep moving in the direction of the tracks. The horse kept moving but this time at a slower pace. The tracks led her through the dense forest beside the road.
The shadow whispered again. ‘Do you think this track will lead you to your captain?’
‘There is a possibility.’ She replied as she kept her eyes on the road.
