Chapter 2: Status Check
As the white light faded I found myself in an alley way and directly in front of me .... is that a dead body? I begin to panic, it is definitely a dead body, I can see blood blood pooling around the dead man as he lies there motionless. What is going on?
All of a sudden it seems like the world's sounds hit me all at once, I hear screaming and yelling all around me. Behind me I hear woman yell.
"Stay away from her you animals!".
I turn around and see two rough looking men advancing on a woman as she brandishes a small knife at them. Behind her is a young girl of around 10 years old? She is hiding behind the woman with the knife, tears and fear strewn across her face.
The two men laugh as derisively as they slowly advance, clearly enjoying the fear of the woman and her child. I can hear one of them in a gruff voice.
"Oi bitch don't worry, I'm a kind guy. I'll make sure you two live and I'll even keep ya together. After all.. I want to make sure you have a good view as I violate her."
A terrifying smile appears on his face, as the other man begins to laugh loudly. I'm still in a state of confusion, I don't know what to do. I want to help them, but I've only ever been in one fight my entire life... and that ended poorly.
Time seems to almost slow as I look around helplessly, trying to find someone or something, but I realize with all the cries... everyone in this town is probably in a bad situation. My breathing becomes more frantic as I try to think of something.
Then I recall that I had just gone through that weird job selection. Would that help me? I suddenly realize how stupid I was to skip the introduction. I'm useless, am I really going to watch on helplessly again? Isn't there anything I can do?
Wait, I realize that if I chose a game like job then I should have some skills attached to that job for combat... but I have no idea what they are or how to use them. FUCK why am I so useless! Time continues to move at a crawl for some reason, maybe this is due to adrenaline?
I try to calm down... is there a way to check my status? The moment I think that, information fills my head.
