Chapter 7: Chapter 6: Gohar Village

Before my very own eyes my perspective on Darvik's actions began to shift, more and more I started to notice the real reason behind his violence; it was difficult to see someone go through so much pain all on their own, I couldn't understand how he kept on going with so much suffering. It was that curiosity that drove me to get closer to Darvik, to see and understand what kind of person he really was, it was a selfish reason but I wanted to know. It was difficult at the beginning as one might imagine, trying to befriend the person only moments ago you thought of as nothing more than a violent and closed in person but I managed, I was able to become his friend, to become something other than a background character in his story.

-Present-

Darvik looks away from Anton and asks "Did you kill it?"

Anton while trying to compose himself and stand up straight says "Yes I did, it was difficult but I managed"

Darvik continues to face away from Anton, covered in blood of his own and the fallen Hapri he begins to slowly move towards their now destroyed campsite.

The ring of fire surrounding the forest has began to disappear, it was a spell cast by now dead mage so naturally it began to dissipate. The howling winds and the pouring rain began to quiet down on the blood spilled night.

Darvik finishes packing the remaining equipment and straps it to his back, he looks over to Anton and says "I've got everything, let's go" He turns away from Anton and starts walking through the forest and Anton trailing behind him.

As they are walking through the forest to find a road or the end of the forest, but not far from where they had fought, Anton picked up a rotting and decaying scent "Blood" he proclaimed, quickly he begins to rush over to the source of the smell, passing Darvik who then rushed after him.

He gets closer to the smell and finds a large number of corpses sprayed around. Anton notes "This is the source" he walks over to one of the corpses for examination, carefully leaning down as to not disturb his wounds he begins examine the corpse and says "Seems like a young man, around his early 20s, legs and arms torn off, stomach slit open and the heart ripped out with only the head intact" he gets back up and turns towards Darvik who just managed to catch up. "Hapri work, isn't it? " Says Darvik-- Anton quickly replies "Yes. Human Legs, arms and intestines is Hapri's favourite food, as for the heart, that's probably for the Warhapri, to recharge it's mana."

"Poor sods, a horrible way to die" Says Darvik with a stoic look

"Yes. But we can't do anything anymore, we need to go" Replies Anton, hurrying Darvik to continue moving through the forest.

Couple of hours later, the sun began to rise accompanied by the chirping sound of the early birds, the weather is calm, any traces of a storm or a fire is gone and the forest has returned to normal. Anton and Darvik tired and injured begin to see the forest edge, as they reach the edge they are greeted by a rocky road, it was a relieving sight.

"Finally, we aren't trapped in that damned forest anymore" - Proclaimed Darvik with a sigh of relief.

"That's not important, the road could lead us to a town where we could rest" - Said Anton.

"We don't need to rest, your wounds are healed and I wasn't seriously injured" - Replied Darvik.

"It doesn't matter, we are both exhausted. We need rest". - Said Anton

Darvik looked over to Anton with a questioning look on his face, it's obvious Darvik knows the two of them need to rest but he is being stubborn thought Anton. He quickly shrugs at Darvik and points towards the other end of the road, signifying to Darvik to follow the road. Darvik grunts and turns towards the road and begins walking, once again leaving Anton behind.

I couldn't smell any strong emotions emanating from him, it's often difficult to detect Darvik's real emotions as he learned to hide them in front of others, even my side effect ability has trouble picking up a specific scent of emotion, it's the same as earlier when he attacked me, I couldn't detect his real emotion but it doesn't matter, I can just tell he is annoyed.

As they continued to follow the path before them they had finally arrived at a small village called Gohar. As soon as Darvik and Anton arrived at the village they began to look around, with the villagers completely ignoring the two, the village was mostly abandoned and destroyed, less than a dozen or so building were left standing with all the others burned to the ground. Curious by the state of the village Darvik walks over to one of the villages, an old man with long, grey beard and hair, smoking a pipe and asks "Hey old man, what happened here?" The old man doesn't immediately respond, he takes a big breath from his pipe; exhales the smoke and replies to Darvik "There was a disaster, not long ago a big pack of werewolves ransacked our village, killed few of our young lads and took their corpses. It was like a nightmare". The old man continues to smoke his pipe as Darvik thinks back to their earlier encounter with the Hapri.

"Old man, what burned down those buildings?". Darvik asks and Anton slowly approaches behind him listening to the conversation.

"oh that was an even scarier beast, it was huge, 'bout the size of the houses, it set the houses on fire. Why? I couldn't tell ye".

Now sure of what had happened to the village and what attacked them Darvik decided to ask the old man why was he so calm and almost cheerful, the old man replied that there is nothing to greave about, as he lived long enough to witness many deaths and after a while he got used to it. But Anton could easily see through his deceptive feelings, he saw that the old man was filled with sorrow, anger, regret and guilt; in his attempt to help the old man he says "You don't have to worry, the beast has been dealt with... And... I'm sorry" the old man looks into Anton's cyan eyes and tears begin to build up in his eyes.

Ms Kake once told Anton and I that "The world might not be fair, it might not be just, but it is beautiful and if you try you can always change it". It is the ideal that woman lived by, she told herself that it was true, that the efforts of the people could change the natural law and everyone would be happy-- but it was bullshit, this world is a cruel place where people with power trample the weak in the pursuit of more power, people in villages like this are left to fend for themselves against the world and the creatures living in it. This world is not beautiful, it's cruel and ugly.
